So many great classic tracks on this LP. One of my most played back in the 80's. The sound and music is definately a predecessor for one of my later idols - the pet shop boys.
Living In The Plastic Age is *SO* far ahead of its time. I'd even wager to say this is a concept album and it is absolutely brilliant. I have to count this among my favorite albums of all time, one I can listen to completely through without any urge to skip a track. Thank you @NitroBurner for sharing.
Absolutely love this song, like most of the rest of the album. The clean, shiny sound is fantastic. Sounded truly modern at the time and really hasn't dated too much. Who or what is Astroboy I wonder... and what have American bilinguals got to do with it?! Who cares though, it's a great song. All hail the Buggles.
i love the buggles...its a shame that video killed the radio star seems to be the only song people know because buggles did alot of great songs...the thing i think people over look the most is that trevor horn is an incredible bass player.....and he is able to play like that and sing freely...im a bass player for many years and i cant do that easily...
Elstree is the best of the best. It is so sad. CUT!
#16 is not that bad at all for those times. I mean you only have to run off a couple of CD's of yer own manky 'pub gig' and flog them to your mates to get in the charts these days:-)
the sound of this album caught my imagination so much wneh i was a kid. there was nothing that sounded like it. geoff downes keyboards and the atmospheres they created take alot of credit. how i love this whole album

Could the Pet Shop Boys have been influenced in the slightest by this sound? They did work with Trevor Horn eventually... good move!

One of the best albums ever. And sadly so neglected.

Agreed. It's my favourite album ever (and VKTRS isn't my favourite song on it, Elstree is), and yet, other than VKTRS, they're unknown.
Living in the plastic age reached #16 (which isn't THAT bad for a follow-up single), yet it's forgotten.

I may be uploading a weekly chart from early 1980 featuring this song soon. Check out my 1979 year-end chart for a Buggles appearance as well.
