Maybe not all that ethical, but hey, we are about to shoot a guy. In a defensive sense, putting one of these in the first chamber of a revolver and using it for a head shot will blind your attacker and make it real hard to defend from the next four hollow points I put in him. Make no mistake, If I'm using my gun, there will only be one version of the story in the police report.
@Tradekraft Hopefully that's legal where you live, gotta be *very* careful about using more than one shot in self defense. More power to ya other than that ^_^.
What a perfect tool for making new 'antique' furniture. The pattern in the pine board is a lot like wood worm. Shoot some of the pieces, assemble, varnish and or French polish. It could look very authentic indeed.
Not effective to kill in self defense, but definitely enough to hurt like hell and possibly blind someone, effectively warding them off with out having a death on your hands.
As for self-defense, some of these posts are scary. Unless you are attacked by a South Park character, the head is smaller than the chest. Why shoot for the head to blind or worse, MISS? Some have watched too many movies. I see comments online such as "Why didn't they shoot the gun out of his hand?" or "Why not just shoot him in the leg?"
My 1st rule of guns: Don't point one at someone unless you intend to shoot them.
My 2nd rule of guns: Don't shoot someone unless you intend to kill them!
Thanks for this video... friend & I were discussing the merits of this in .45 ACP for him to carry while elk hunting on the chance he saw some grouse. I think the .45 has #9 shot, don't remember the count. But even with a larger pellet, it appears that the pattern disperses too quickly for that use to be practical.
@blam7 i think it a self defence situation where you have gotten to the point where you are firing your gun you should be aiming to kill, and a blind person hat is in pain and now increadibly pissed off can still hurt you quite alot especially if you arnt prepared to take a life to defend your own
@blam7 Or you could just use pepper spray, it would have the same effect. The thing about home defense is that if you have to draw your gun, it's most likely because if you don't somebody is going to be seriously injured or killed. For many people that is the only situation they would shoot another person, to save a life. And if you are in that situation you need to keep firing until the threat is removed, either they run away, or they are incapacitated. These shells would not incapacitate.
"Killing snakes in Tennessee -- venomous or non-venomous -- is illegal under most circumstances. But if a homeowner feels that a snake is posing a threat, it can be legally killed." This taken directly from the TWRA website. I have noticed them on the shelf in stores and shops, gun shows, etc. for years now. I have often thought of picking a box to test out, but for some reason?? I have yet to make the purchase. It would be interesting to see the results when used in a pistol caliber carbine!
@serverguy87 He might also be a guitarist, I grow out my nails because it's easier to play guitar and you get a way better crisp sound. I could be wrong though. :)
@devilrobrob It looks like a true glo setup the same that I have on my G23 and i love umm. Pretty easy to install, just need a hammer, small punch, front sight tool, small Allen head wrench a file and Lok tite. Takes 15 minutes to install
if it was a poisones snake i wouldint care if it was legal or not self defense is self defense. what if you have little kids around? + not realy anyway they could find out. just dig a hole and snake problem solved. im sure most people do this if they even care that theres a snake around.
Illegal to shoot snakes in Tennessee??? That's strange, I'm glad I can soot stuff like that in my area (mostly copper heads, cotton mouths, and Eastern Diamondbacks). I would rather kill 1 endangered snake than risk the lives of many others
...and, looking at this vid, it begs the question why you'd bother to use a 9mm with shotshells for a snake or whatever when real shotguns can be had for low prices.
@PooPoo2U you would be suprised. i had a guy come into the gun store before looking to buy a co2 pellet pistol for self defense against mountain lions and bears for his family camping trip. lol
i think it would work good for self defense if you got shot a few times in a row youd be in some serious pain from all those little bbs hitting you no way in hell you could kill someone though mabe if you put it up to the skin haha .
I think the shot shell is worthless.........might kill a snake at 2 feet.other than that I have no use for them.Nice video though, you showed the flaws .
I never even thought you could pick one of these up from the magazine in an auto loader. Figured the plastic cap would break. Good to know. These are good for snakes and such, but to think some misguided soles are toting them for self defense? Dear lord, may the judge have pity on there soles! Cause you know they are getting sued by whoever they shoot with em. {You know there's no way these could ever kill a human under any reasonable self defense circumstance}
but in this rounds defense, if you live anywhere near an area where fat older yuppies love to jog shirtless, these rounds can help without doing any real damage
ive used these and you could never kill anything larger than a rat with this. they are good if you have problems with pests like that but even a possum wont die right away from two of these round. speaking from experience
I carry these in my .357 in .38 when I am camping and fishing on the trail for snakes and other small dangerous animals that I may have to shoot fast and at close range. I stager with a .357 hollow point every other round incase I run into anything larger. I don't think these are intended for autos, but work great in revolvers.
I bought a pack of these a few years ago and at first i was worried about the plastic shot cap disintegrating upon chambering. They do work well on cotton mouths, although i had feeding problems in my XD as well....
I have a 19 anda it cycles with that shotshell every time (15 times)! Maybe i have a diferent spring wheight. (the spring is original, but it is a 100% Austrian Glock)
@sorku11 your pellet gun absolutely does more damage. It all has to do with weight of the projectile. These little guys dont weigh shit, therefore dont cause much damage at all. Just think, this round was designed for shooting a snake or critter down near your feet. Sure a foot shot would still suck with these...but not bad at all compared to a 120gr projectile. Anyone that uses these for self defense is a fucking idiot!
@sorku11: They're not meant as a mankilling round, they're meant to kill snakes, birds, or small rodents. Use some damned common sense: he's firing it from a 9mm. If damage was the concern he'd just use a normal 9mm round.

Thanks for the video, I wondered if those would be effective at all for in-home self defense, now I know that they are not. Appreciate it. I don't care how long your finger nails are by the way.
Honestly, I think this would be perfect for home defense. You won't ever encounter somebody more than 15 feet away from you (unless you live in a mansion) and it is FAR less likely to be lethal so you don't have to worry about that. AND there is no aiming to be done really, point and shoot and he is either going down or the hell out of your house.
At first, I thought it was horrible dispersion. But then again, it's coming out of a barrel that's less than 5 inches typically. So I suppose that's about right.
My ex wifes father, an engineer, showed me how he loaded his .44 with this type of round years ago. Yeah, I didn't think it was a good idea before the videos and an engineer in the aerospace industry couldn't figure it out. yikes.
I am not a big fan of "less than lethal" handgun ammo, but I bet a face full of that could discourage an attacker.

Why illegal to use on snakes in TN? I bought the .22 version here in TX for that very purpose, thank goodness it is not illegal here.

Yeah, I didn't think it was a good idea before the videos and an engineer in the aerospace industry couldn't figure it out. yikes.
