  • WOW, great love it, it toch my heard,

  • Hitman brought me here XD

  • @joeconreen94 same! xD

  • Schubert composed the original lyrics in German as part of Ellens Dritter Gesangen. It was based on Sir Walter Scott's poem, Lady of the Lake. It's frequently heard in Latin, but that version is not based on the original lyrics.

  • The great Dame Janet is indeed singing the the original German text as set by the very great Franz Schubert. The accompanist is the equally great Gerald Moore, known as the 'King of Accompanists'. So there you have it: the coming together of three great musicians to give the ultimate rendition of one of the most sublime pieces of music in existence. It doesn't get much better then that.

  • The great Janet is not singing this in the 'original' german. This was a poem by Walter Scott, and , therefore, was originally in english. Hear an equally great singer, John McCormack, do so. It's on Youtube somewhere.

    The Old Swordsman.

  • Schubert and Russian religious Arts excellently describe MOM'S Dignity in full. Schubert elegantly composed the song. The Arts are very beautiful. They indicate the Russians are very solid in Faith. The singer nicely adds Its Importance to the audience with her Angelic voices. MOM is the Best creature DAD can do. MOM Cares of US and Loves US Most. At CANA MOM thought of US before JESUS. Now MOM thinks of US before DAD. Whre MOM is, MOM saves US. Shouldn't we think of MOM days and nights? Thanks.

  • @YBPhotoeditor06 what a lovely response!

  • Thank you for the beautiful art work to go with this beautiful music

  • @Suz71bu - AMEN.

  • Dame Janet is, indeed, British, not American.

Her voice can often make me weep, so heartfelt and emotionally nuanced is her singing. She makes you feel the song itself, takes you to the song directly, and you soon forget the singer who merely becomes a medium for the composer's intent - this is what only a true artist can achieve!

  • Dame Janet Baker is British.

  • Is this Russian? Beautiful: precise and felt.

  • This is not Russian ... It´s the original German Version.

  • True enough... but no such claim was made. In any case, Ms Baker is American... not European. So, we have German music sung by an American singer backed with Russian art... there's enough credit for everyone, wot?

    Cheers,
