  • 90's Playoff series were the best... It seemed like every series went seven games and their was at least 2 hall of famers on each team lol.... Good Times,Good times haha

  • Uhm...where is the jazz in this video. I can just see some football players and hear a man talking?

  • Shrapmetal the Thunder

  • THUNDER UP! U mad Seattle??

  • @thackery12 your fat ass fans couldn't even get off their asses as the Mavs stomped your sorry hide.

  • NBC was so much better at producing these games than TNT or ABC/ESPN. The way NBC presented them made the games seem so much more epic and important. They made it seem like titans and gods were fighting every Saturday night.

  • i'd slit clay bennetts throat an kick him in the neck with a boot filled with nails if there was no laws. sum1 pop that cunt already

  • now this is the way a playoff game introduction should sound. that's why nbc rules and abc drools.

  • how in the fuck do my SONICS not play in Seattle anymore? Fuck the NBA man

  • clay bennett needs to die

  • The nostalgic factor of the NBA on NBC music and when basketball was BASKETBALL, no whining just playing. On a side note, Seattle is a great city and definitely deserves another team.

  • God I miss these days!

  • Bulls > All

  • hahaha the bulls beat both yall asses

  • we need to do like a nation strike to get the team back... LOL

  • i really wanted Stockton and Malone to win a title, unfortunately they had to play against a guy named Michael.

  • where's the game? I wanna see karl malone choking!!

  • I give my right nut for a 96 Seattle away jersey.

  • @AvEryBadApPLe i got a kemp one back then. it was like a dress but now it fits just right. what a player

  • payton & kemp, one of my all-time favorite dynamic duos.

  • Man if the Jazz had won this game They woulda lost 3 straight against da Bulls in da Finals 96 97 98

  • The Jazz had a Great chance in the last 6 Minutes of that Game 7 to get the Sonics. A close Ball Game favors the Road Team!!!

  • @maxinutri. Shawn Kemp made his free throws.

  • @maxinutri is that why the sonics won? turd

  • @showstoppa01 Possibly. But you've got to wonder what a Finals series experience would have given the Jazz in 1997. They were pretty close that year (losing three of four games in the final seconds). Experience in a Finals the year before maybe means Malone doesn't choke FTs in game one or that the Jazz don't wilt in game five.

    Who knows, tho.

  • @JazzyUte Well, what did the Jazz' Finals experience in '97 do for the team in '98?

Ultimately, I suspect that Utah's pick-and-roll offense proved a tad too predictable for Chicago's defense.

  • @joekiddlouischama I think Utah was in a far better position in 1997 than they were in 1998, even though they held home-court. They lost game one at the buzzer after Malone missed two free throws that would've put the Jazz up two. That's pressure. Maybe getting to the big stage in 1996 would have put him in position to make those free throws in game 1. Jazz win there and it's an entirely different series.

  • Jerseys looked so much better back then. Today they are boring.

  • Those jerseys were sweet

  • Wasn't this the final game where the Jazz wore those ugly purple and gold jerseys?

  • You idiot did you not watch the video!

  • lance-a-million

  • God I miss the Sonics.....

  • @tukwila206 As do I. BTW, I was just in Tukwila today.. :)

  • NBC is the best sports broadcasting station, hands down. I don't think anyone else comes close.

  • Man I miss these days of the NBA!

  • these sonics were the best...shawn kemp the reignman wuz the man...

  • I really miss that NBA on NBC theme music.

  • Man, that was one helluva series. I remember watchin' it thinkin' was it ever gonna end? I was 14 then. That was a good postseason overall.

  • I was 12, and probably my favorite Sonics memory.

    RIP

  • i was 11

  • i was 1 :D

  • I miss the Sonics, I miss the Houston Oilers, hell I even miss the Montreal Expos! I pretty much miss the teams I grew up seeing.

  • I feel the same way you do! I miss the Sonics of old. Shit, I miss the L.A. Raiders. In the 80s and 90s, everything meant so much more. Nowadays, it just doesn't seem that way.

  • You miss the LA Faiders? LMAO

Uh...You know they stole them from Oakland originally don't you? You know they were a dynasty in Oakland don't you?

    Wow...

  • Yeah I know where they came from originally. Shit my aunt's best friend is married to Otis Sistrunk. But growing up when I was into football, they were the L.A. Raiders. Tim Brown, Jay Schroeder, Bo Jackson, Marcus Allen..shit I even remember Jim Plunkett.

  • yeah i know what you mean....it meant more huh? it was like veryone cared more....its just lost meaning

  • Utah had an unremarkable regular season but came alive in the playoffs with their best ball of the season. Even though they fell short in this game it would lay the foundation to back-to-back 60+ win seasons and NBA finals appearances the next two years.

  • the winner goes to chicago! and get there ass kicked

  • did the sonics win this?

  • So you hate yourself then?

  • Mail-Man doesn't deliver on Sunday! Boo Ya!!

  • I think its funny how they say in the intro that Kemp and Payton were "heirs apparent" to Stockton and Malone....

  • CHICAGO BULLS!

  • AHHH!!! i wass looking for the edgar martinez double to bring griffey home videoclip last night on youtube i was searching for like an hour hahah yes that has to be one of them! i also had a tshirt with the seattle times front page that says "REFUSE TO LOSE" haha good times good times

  • anybody got this full game???

    this was a classic

  • No question about it. One word "CLASSIC"

  • damn i recorded this game but lost the tape LOL does anyone have at least the highlights of it?? its gotta be the greatest game ever played in seattle next to the seahawks NFC championship.

  • Those bastards can take our team but they can never take our MEMORIES...None of these old players are going to ever associate themselves with the Okies. Most have already said that, they still love the Seattle fans.

    Seattle Supersonics Forever...

  • man back in 2005 the last year we sort of had a chance, I flew all the way from FL to Seattle just to watch a playoff game against the Spurs. I'm one of the biggest Sonics fans ever, and I'm 3k++ miles away!!

  • man I remember going to one of the games in this series and we would count the seconds when malone would shoot free throws......SAVE OUR SONICS!!!

  • stockton looks like a creepy serial killer

  • i remember that game. I was not yet nine years old, but i remember that game. I pulled for the Sonics against the Bulls in the Finals.

  • bennet is a liar. he did not act in good faith. stern is a thief for supporting his friend.

  • If some psycho Sonics fan took Bennett out, I honestly wouldn't feel bad about it.

  • That's how I feel about BIG 10 commissioner Jim Delaney.

  • @davidgee24 same here, i'd cheer for the guy. i'd even want his autograph.

  • @davidgee24 i'd LOVE it! Death to Bennett!!!!! lol

  • @davidgee24 I'm a Seattle born and raised. I'm Japanese-American, so I HATE the Boston Celtics and Utah Jazz! But, despite my Seattle birth, I still say, don't blame Clay Bennett, blame Howard Schultz!

  • SAVE OUR SONICS

  • God I miss the NBA on NBC theme music.

  • Same here, best theme music for basketball...

  • GO JAZZ

  • Save our Sonics!!!

  • Clay never wanted to keep the team in Seattle. The damning emails were uncovered by the Seattle Times yesterday. Chalk one up for the city of Seattle. They're staying in Seattle for at least 2 more years.

  • 1.800.562.6000. There is a proposal in front of the St. legislature that includes $150 million of private money and the same from public funds to refurbish The Key. It is esential that we get this heard in front of the legislature before next Friday. If this is not done now an opportunity will be lost. When gifts like this come about, it is prudent to act. Please call the legislative hotline and let them know that this needs to happen NOW! I encourage everyone out here there to call.

  • Save our Sonics

  • Save the sonics? I haven't watched the NBA in sometime what's going on?

  • SAVE OUR SONICS!... I was at this game and it was AWESOME!!! I know that many of you get your information on a national level. Please don't beleive the politicing that Stern is throwing out; we in Seattle LOVE the SUUUUUUUUPerSonics!!!... And by the way, how sweet is Pink Floyd on the Intro...C'Mon!

  • goosebumps.... SAVE OUR SONICS!

  • Save our Sonics.

  • hey there,

if someone is reading it, and you have the nbc intro for game five on 1998 finals, PLEASE post it!

i would really appreciate it! thanks..

  • save the sonics

  • save the sonics

  • My boy Shawn Kemp .... just shook the mans hand up here in Seattle .. well couple years back anyway... those were the good ole days...

  • IF ONLY KEMP AND PAYTON COULD HAVE GOT PAST THE FIRST ROUND WHEN JORDAN WAS OUT FOR 2 YEARS THEY WOULD HAVE BEAT THE ROCKETS I MEAN THEY BEAT THEM IN 1993 as well as 1996 when they got the chance! DAMN THOSE KINGS AND LAKERS

  • The game where Shawn Kemp SMASHED Antione Carr with his "Carr Wreck" dunk on Antione Carr's head. Best dunk I've ever seen in person!

  • that was a cold dunk though...

  • This intro made me cry because it makes me realize how much ABC sucks. I miss NBC!

  • yeah,i miss nbc too...but seriously,d-wade doesn't suck...he's the best 2-guard in the league after kobe...

  • if it wasn't for the nba on nbc no one would

be watching nba basketball today. am i right?

  • not necessarily.but nbc did help though..

  • the best 1-2 punch in da game and also best choke artists..lol

  • Eh, ugh, after seeing this, I wanna go up to Chicago, get a plane ticket to Seattle, meet up with someone in the organization and plead for the city. They deserve better than those clowns owning the team. Technically, because I'm in Illinois, I guess I can't be a Sonics/Storm fan, but I'm pullin' for them like I did the Saints last year.

  • Why, Why, Why did this have to end in 2002?

This, or ABC's PCD intro? Hahaha. That's got to be a joke.

NBA on NBC was sports greatness.

  • I remember this series and watching it. I cried when the jazz lost but then the next year made up for it.

  • 1996 bulls team: Greatest TEAM of ALL TIME

    that team had

THE MVP of the season (jordan)

    THE 6th man(toni kukoc)

THE defensive player of the year(jordan)

    The leading rebounder (rodman 16.0rbp)

    NBA steals leader (scottie pippen)

    Coach of the year(phil jackson)

72-10 record! THE GREATEST SINGLE SEASON TEAM EVER, Period

  • True they have the greatest single season record but that doesn't qualify them as the greatest team of all time. You got to look at the 80's Lakers and/or Celtics for greatness.

  • Mike-WRONG. Those Bulls teams are as good as the Lakers and Celtics teams of the 80s. In fact, I'd take 96 Chicago over 86 Boston.

  • well,the 96 bulls were a great team,but i don't think they would beat the 86' celtics....and i'm a die-hard bulls fan.however,i do believe the 92' bulls(the true best bulls championship team)would beat them.

  • how mj, dennis, scottie toni (6 man award) ron harper over mj scottie and not mature horace grant? wow

  • what do you mean how???

    a still in his prime michael jordan,a younger scottie pippen,bj armstrong,john paxson,etc....

and how do you figure horace grant wasn't mature????did you see the numbers he put up that year???/

and plus the nba in 92" was tougher than it was in 96'...that's a indisputable fact.

    do your home work sometime...

  • thats ur opinion buddy

  • no shit....

who elses opinion would it be???

  • w/e u obvioly dont noe basketball

  • nah he knows basketball...the key in 92 is a younger Jordan and a younger team altogether. I don't think that the 96 team could have won 72 if they were playing in 92.

  • idk man, scootie got better, rodman was a beast, and MJ put up mvp statiss. and toni kovok was 6 man 2. ron harper also had a decent year

  • Scottie did not get better..in fact he had overall better stats in 91/92..same thing with jordan..and the 91/92 bulls had a good bench as well..armstrong,paxson,levingston,etc...

  • my point exactly!!!!!!

  • the nba in 91-92 was flatout better than it was in 95-96...so,i'm pretty sure that the 95-96 bulls wouldn't have broken that record that season..

  • exactly...the 92 bulls were better

  • and you obviously don't know how to spell...

  • and you obviously don't know how to spell..

  • those 80's lakers and celtics team were great no doubt, but i think the bulls teams from the 1st 3-peat would've given them a run for their money..

  • The Bulls would of fucked em' up.

  • ya rite dude you dont understand how much better teams were the 80s who the fuk are the sonics?

lakers w/o kareem washed up magic, blazers?

    give me a break

  • yes but in the 80s it was more phyiscal would they play with 90s rules or 80's cuz in the 1980's you could basically kill someone and they wouldnt call a foul ! the pistons aka badboys were out to kill people!

  • disagree...the 92' bulls were better...aside from the record that is...

  • NBC! NBC! NBC! Bring it back, NBA on NBC.

  • we miss nba on nbc...but puit barkley in nbc cause he is funny as hell

  • Good thing Utah lost that game, it would of been three years in a row for the Jazz in being second to the Bulls!

  • That, combined with the fact the Sonics would have lost the series after being up 3-1. Also, there was no way the Jazz would have forced the Bulls to 6 games. They had to claw and fight their way just to get to game 6 against Seattle.

  • puffy this sonics team wasnt better than their championship team. and the 96 bulls wasnt the greatest team ever youngster.

  • Um...Yeah it was...That Supes team won more games than any other in team history and was one of the Top-10 teams all-times in wins during a season in NBA history...

They just drew an unlucky matchup.

  • Unlucky pretty much sums it up. When you win 64 games, you usually have the best record in the league. Had they not played the Bulls, the only team that would have had even the slightest chance of beating them would have been the Magic.

  • this was a great game and 2 great teams. why the heLL did seattle trade kemp? and then it went downhill for kemp, vin baker, AND SEATTLE. ouch.

  • Kemp's behavior had grown erratic (missed flights, tardiness, whispers of excessive drinking) during the '96-'97 season, and he had been displeased with the Seattle organization ever since it gave a marginal center named Jim McIlvaine a mammoth free agent contract in the summer of 1996, thus knocking Kemp down on the salary totem pole. Kemp's new team, the Cavaliers, was the one that opened up its bank account for him.

  • Had to trade him...He wanted out.

  • Shawn wanted an extension on his contract. He had no problem with them signing McIlvaine, but he did have a problem with how much money he got. That is a slap to the face of a guy who had been the heart and soul of that franchise with Payton for 7 years.

The only thing Jim McIlvaine could do was block shots. He never played 20 minutes in a game, and in his two seasons prior to Seattle, he averaged 1.7 PPG/1.9 RPG/1.1 BPG, and 2.3 PPG/2.9 RPG/2.1 BPG.

  • I love how at the tail end, the fans are chanting...

    "SUPER!"

    "SONICS!"

    "SUPER!"

    "SONICS!"

Classic. And I'm a Rockets fan from the 90s.

  • Actually its the PA guy that says "Super!", crowd says "Sonics!"...unfortunately after this year, the PA guy could be saying "Oklahoma!", crowd says "City!" I loved it too, and growing up in Illinois I'm obviously a Bulls fan.

  • FUCK ABC/ESPN. WE WANT OUR NBA On NBC

  • Karl Malone missed those 2 free throws in the closing seconds, really hurt them

  • ahahaha jazz lose, this is the best sonics team ever, even better than the one that won a championship, they took it to game 6 against the greatest team of all time, the 96 bulls
