  • there is something i have wanted to know for years, is the long haired muppet with the bandana a girl or a boy?

  • at 1:24 when he actually screams so loud the Muppet is blown away!!! Hilarious!!! Of course I grew up in a household where there was a great deal of anger. I suppose on one hand this is cathartic because of my love of music but on the other this may have inadvertently fueled my own rage when I was a child. ???

  • As I've said before, I have had truly horrendous days, and singing this song is the ONE thing that gets me thru it.

Wanna let out a scream -- WOOOO!!!!

  • What year did this first come out?

  • Not bad. Well, all those things that Little Jerry sings about ARE pretty irritating, yes; but here's what REALLY takes the cake: the LAST one! Brother being as horrid as can be; Mom/Dad REALLY yelling at me for letting this "Calvin" character tear up; and then to add insult to injury, Mom says to him: "Come on, sweetheart; I know you've had a rough day. It's just that some people aren't fit to handle little ones! Let me fix you a nice dish of ice cream...". Him to me: "NYAAH!!!" OUCH!!!

  • I remember this from Episode #273 (May 19, 1971).

  • U mad bro?

  • @SlayerVenomDeath92 i aint even mad

  • @machinehead12321 y u mad Nick Cappa?

  • Um... you DO know you can turn them off yourself, right?

  • Oh, yeah. I found the right button. Thanks.

  • No prob.

  • According to Muppet Wiki, the rhythm and chorus lines are a parody of Get A Job by The Silhouettes.

  • "Well I feel so angry I wanna roar!

I wanna run home and slam the door!

I don't wanna see nobody no more!"

! can SO relate to this song!

  • @PandaMishima: So can my Mom. There were times when she got mad to the point where she didn't want to see anybody till next week. That's how she felt.

  • O.K. you changed your mind. Good!

  • How does that NOT sound like Jerry Nelson? It sounds NOTHING like Bob McGrath.

This is a pretty good song.

  • I honestly don't know now - I mean, compared to their first song, "Surprise!", his voice sounds alot differnet from this one.

Course, I only heard the song on the album it was released on, so I'm not sure if that was how the audio was shown on tv (in full length, of course).

  • @ErnieandBert1 That blue singer sang meet me at the bus stop too.

  • Not quite true. The two of them looked pretty similar, but they weren't the same guy.

  • The microphones resemble the vintage RCA 77DX ribbon microphones.

  • Which remind of the one shown at the beginning of the Conan O'Brien show!

  • Yeah.

  • This is a rare time where I have to give more props to the version recorded for the "Sesame Street 2" album on WB (1971). Normally I don't like the "record" versions of a lot of these songs. But thanks for making me aware that this exists.

  • That is NOT BOB!

    That is Jerry Nelson's singing!

  • We obviously don't know for sure...

  • I know for sure it is Jerry Nelson.

  • It's definitely Jerry Nelson. Peace.

  • Thank You! :)

  • Like I said, there's no obvious way to tell unless they did a behind-the-scenes clip of the recording of this song.

  • Agree. Bob McGrath doesn't quite have the voice talent for Little Jerry.

  • I know for a fact that Little Jerry was voiced by Jerry Nelson here, just like in every other song. Bob's voice is too lovely for a song like this, compared to other songs he sang.

  • Yes. I remember seeing this on PBS at a point in time when I was four.

  • REALLY. That must have been a good catch, I always assumed this was recycled by the early 90's.

  • Don't forget, Jerry Nelson was in his late twenties at the time of this.

  • Well, of course, "Surprise!" came before this song did, and in that song, it actually sound like Jerry Nelson performing him compared to this one. I don't know, maybe I'm not listening carefully.

  • But considering the current video of "Surprise!" on this site is from a cd, I'm not sure if that was how it was shown on tv.

  • Actually he was in his late to mid 30s he was born in 1934 this was in 1970 to 1971 he was 36 or 37

  • Right. That's what I meant. My error.

  • Well done... I was waiting for this one on the 40 years DVD set that was going / just to be released. Now we can all be enthralled with Little Jerry's hair without interruption.

  • Glad I could help. Now, all we need is the full version of "Surprise!", and we're complete.

  • "Now we can all be enthralled with Little Jerry's hair without interruption." Hahahaha, I agree!

  • I always thought it was Bob McGrath too.

  • I DID used to think it was Jerry Nelson, but after listening pretty carefully to the parts where Little Jerry gets angrier and angrier by the minute, it did sound a bit like Bob. This is why I REALLY wish they'd do a behind the scenes clip of this video so we could see who's who.

  • Yeah.

  • @antsamthompson9 Me too, if they brought the Montones back, Matt Vogel would be Little Jerry, Rick Lyon would be Rockin' Richard (I know he's not with SS anymore but he's the only Richard I can think of) Peter Linz would be Chrissy, and Kevin Clash would be Big Jeffy, what do you think?

  • @muppetlover16 I think they would be good choices.

  • @antsamthompson9 yeah but what do you think Rick's Rockin' Richard would sound like?

  • @muppetlover16 I think it would sound sort of like his real voice.

  • Comment removed

  • @muppetlover16 I think his real voice is like Nicky, but more lower.

  • @antsamthompson9 Yeah, I saw an interview with him and he said "Nicky is just my voice only a little bit higher" so basically what your saying is that RL's RR would be a really deep Nicky?

  • @muppetlover16 Yep.

  • @antsamthompson9 Actually I believe I've heard him pull off a Richard Hunt impression, when he parodied Steve Wynn, it sounded exactly like Statler, however when he started singing he went from Richard Hunt to Frank Sinatra, but then again he could use his normal voice too.

  • @muppetlover16 That's probably true.

  • @antsamthompson9 Wait I changed my mind, that would be his Big Jeffy voice, his RR voice would probably sound like the Blue Bad Idea Bear

  • @muppetlover16 Yeah. That sounds better.

  • Comment removed

  • @antsamthompson9 Hey if they sang "Forget You" on SS the Monotones would play back up and Kevin Clash, or Tyler Bunch would be the "Cee-Lo" Muppet, what d'ya think sounds like a fun idea?

  • @muppetlover16 That does.

  • @antsamthompson9 The reason I chose RL as Big Jeffy, Jeff Moss has the same singing style as Rick

  • @muppetlover16 That's true.

  • @antsamthompson9 How do you describe his real voice?

  • @muppetlover16 I think it's really a lower version of Nicky.

  • @antsamthompson9 But you told me that already, now you're starting to make me MAD!

  • @muppetlover16 Sorry about that.

  • @antsamthompson9 S'alright I'm not that mad anymore, btw what would Peter's Chrissy, Kevin's Big Jeffy, and Matt's Little Jerry sound like?

  • @muppetlover16 Peter's Chrissy would sound sort of like Walter, Kevin's Big Jeffy would sound like Hoots, and Matt's Little Jerry would sound just like Jerry's.

  • @antsamthompson9 Good idea, but wait wouldn't they have to write new songs? I can think of some new ones

    "Happy"

    "Afraid"

    "Confused"

    and some parodies/covers

"Big Kids Don't Cry" (Frankie Valle style!)

"Rock it to me" (sung by Rockin' Richard)

"Light my Fire" (sung by Big Jeffy)

"Good Lovin" (long live the Rascals)

btw how would the songs Happy, Afraid, and Confused play out? (i.e bacgrounds, settings, music) what about those cover/parodies?

  • @muppetlover16 That sounds like a good idea.

  • @antsamthompson9 Yes but I asked you how they'd look here's what I think

Happy: Yellow background w/multi-colored smiley faces, jaunty music

Afraid: Black background. w/skulls,slow and eerie music

Confused: Purple background w/question marks, detective style music with a bassline

  • @muppetlover16 I think skulls would be a little innapropriate for a Sesame Street song.

  • @wattamack4 But it is a song about bein' afraid so... ya know what I'll nix the skulls and just leave the black background and use less eerie music, btw wattamack4 what do you think the lyrics to those three songs would be? (post them in three separate comments)

  • @muppetlover16 That's what I think too.

  • @antsamthompson9 Yeah, but what would the lyrics to each song be, I asked wattamack4 and he didn't answer me...yet, so what do you think the lyrics to those three songs be? Post them as soon as possible, and be creative

    -muppetlover16

  • @muppetlover16 I didn't respond, because I simply have no answer...

  • @wattamack4 It's alright.

  • @muppetlover16 I'm not sure about the lyrics.

  • @antsamthompson9 Make some up, but post them in three seperate comments, 'kay?

  • @muppetlover16 I don't know. I'm not that creative.

  • Man, I never thought I'd see this one in clear quality sans subtitles. Thanks a million!

  • god i remember this from back when i was a child. wow it is amazing how things come back to you!

  • Carol must of been horse at the end of the performance. Bert would of kicked butt if he performed the song.
