Jis tarha sukhay howay phool, kitabon mein milein (Ahmad Faraz),

the above is Radhif of first shair, i.e. antara, the end part is so difficult to sing

or even continue, listen to it first, carefully.

Darbari, Bhairon, Bhairanvi, Nian ki

Malhar, desi todi, Jog, Bhimplasi, tilak

kamod, Pahari, jaijaiwanti, kalawati,

malkaunse, Paraj, Kirwani, Bhankar,

Poria kaliyan, shudh kaliya, Shankara, etc etc I can count many more !!

KhanSahib, has God-gifted talent to master all the thaats, e.g.

Kalyan, Bilawal, Khamaj, Kafi, Bhairon, Asawari, Tori, Poorvi, Malwa and Bhairanvi and others. Most of his

ghazal's dhuns are inimitable.

and requirements of ascending and descending order. Ustad is inhimself

an institution of Raag-based ghazals,

which is inexisting in the whole subconti

I have counted myself he has sung in 28

Raags as far as I have heard & remeber, him since 1960. Asatizah ka kalam he started really selectioning mid 70s Mir, Ghalib, Dagh, Al-e-Raza, Saudah, Dard, aatish, Hasrat, Zauq, today's Faiz Jalib etc etc.

I first listened to this ghazal composition by Abida Parveen, and thought it was great. After I listened to the Mehdi Hassan version, I notice the detailing in raag from the start. The rythm and timing is perfect throughout the ghazal right to the end! It cannot be sung better by anyone else other than Mehdi Hassan!
