I don't think having an odd number on the bottom is correct because then you'd have 1/5 or 1/3 notes getting the beat. The part at 1:13 can be counted with more standard time signatures. Try counting it as a measure of 4/4, two measures of 7/8, and then another measure of 4/4. Then repeat. This works out perfectly with the snare getting the hit on counts 2 and 4 of every measure.

And then the ride part at 1:53 is a 6:4 polyrhythm (6 on ride and 4 on kick) which lasts 5 measures and then repeats. So it's counted in 6/8 and the 5 measures equals out to be the exact same length (thirty 8th notes) as the previous alternating 4/4, 7/8 bit before it repeats....Karnivool is full of math geeks. LOL

I use evans emad 2's and gmads, both sound great! i think in this one i had a gmad, basically the same deal just one really thick ply, emad 2 is a two ply. Great skins! and ahh for tuning, stick a skin on and push in the centre, tighten round untill it doesnt wrinkle near the tension rods, thats pretty much how i do it!
