The first time I made a tequila sunrise, the recipe I saw said to "layer" the grenadine over the OJ - tequila mixture using the bar spoon, so the grenadine for a moment sits on top of the mixture and the act of the grenadine falling through the mixture creates this marbling effect between the orange juice and the grenadine which looks strikingly similar to the appearance of the eastern sky just before sunrise. And, yeah, I've never known triple sec to be in a tequila sunrise.
