are there any tiny wires in there? Last time i tried replacing a laser on my wii. I accidentally pulled a small wire and had to solder it back. long story short i couldn't get the wii disc drive to work over a small mistake. i was lucky enough to get a free repair from nintendo. are there a lot of small wires in there?
hi mate im thinking of poping in my ps3 40gb has just stopped reading disk's all disk's nothing will work im coming from deeside/chester could u give me a price please mate and how long it would take
@Deesidehardcore It is £80 to replace the laser . Takes about an hour if we have your model in stock. I would call to verify if you want it done while you wait.
Thanks! this helped me fix my ps3 in ten minutes! My only problem was your camera angle... you were blocking the work with your arm. Had to rewind to be sure what you did.Great upload!
@SteveSpy1967 my ps3's bluray drive died last night, it would only play dvd's, cd's and ps1 games, so i phoned sony and they said that my model has a dvd laser and a bluray laser, they then told me that the bluray laser had died and they wanted £134 for a replacement, i've just bought a replacement laser with deck off ebay for £34, and thanks to your video i'm gonna fix the ps3 myself and save £100! thanks mate!
hay mate i did every think wat u did on my ps3 and now i put it together. wen i put my disc in it dont come bk out the ps3 wen pressing eject. do ya no wat have done wrong ere
hey, i got the 80010514 error, so my ps3 doesnt play games or bluray. it does still play dvd's tho. i have a 40 gb model about 2 n a half years old what do i need to buy to replace the blu ray laser? any help would be appreciated.
hey buddy need help. my 40gb ps3 blu ray drive dont read disc. if i replace the lense.... what model lense do i need? and if i replace whole blu ray drive... what model do i need?
if i either replace one of these..... u know a good site to get it from besides ebay?
Hi that laser u replaced with orginal one does it reads the normal blu-ray dics or only dvds?? Also if i do my ps3 chipped can i play the copy games online?? thank you...
i did this and now the white piece on the laser is clicking the motors gear trying to move forward even tho it is all the way forward what should i do
I would take it to someone who can do an Infra Red BGA reflow of the solder on the main board of the PS3. This is the method used by Sony to repair faulty PS3's sent back to them.
@SteveSpy1967 it's still part of britain though, and good job in the video me and my brother just thought it'd be a laugh to put a comment sayin that, sorry if any offense was taken
No offence was taken here. The British empire at its height occupied 1/4 of the Worlds land area and population. An example of poor quality manufacture could be better found in Hong Kong prior to the 1997 hand back to China. The Titanic was in fact very well manufactured.
i have the original 60gb ps3, and my laser doesnt seem to be reading any discs at all now. i was wondering what type of laser i should buy so that i can have it replaced. Thank you.
ive swapped a working 60gig BD drive with my current one. after i swapped into my drive, it did not run......is there compatibility issues? they both are 60 gig, backward compatible. i know there is a cecha and cechc, but not sure if it matters?
i changed out the whole laser and drive, and the HDD, i dont knwo what else to change on my systme, it stil doesnt read any discs, im only playing demos now....help.,........
@SteveSpy1967 if i do not have access to that PCB board anymore, and i've switched the entier laser + drive.........am i pretty much screwed? or is there a work around?
i really need any ideas that may make my current system recognize my new BR drive.....please if you can think of anything......thanks for your prompt reply
This is the laser replacement video, we have a different video for Yellow Light of Death repair. But yes you can send us the PS3 and we will fix it and return it to you in Ireland. Infra Red is the best way to repair the problem as you can precisely re flow the solder without risk of damage to components on the board.
Glad to see there is no rocket science involved. But I'm still debating on whether I should do this (and face the possibility of my ps3 STILL not working) or just pony up the $150 for a sure thing.
The best way to repair is to do an Infra Red BGA re flow of the solder on the main board of the PS3. Infra Red is the only way to reach the correct temperatures required without damaging the Playstation 3.
My ps3 stopped reading discs after i updated it to 3.0. I've read that the update increases the blu-ray disc reading speed for faster loading time. By changing the ps3 lens, will the ps3 start reading discs again?
My disc isn't spinning, so do I need to replace the KEM-400AAA deck. (Will it work straight away or is my existing laser deck coded to the motherboard?)
Could be a main board solder problem. Would need to test it to make sure. Run it over if your near Manchester, or we do a collection and delivery throughout the uk.
It is rather easy to get a new laser, but I have (I think) the problem that the motor which is turning the disc, is not working, and I think it is the small chip that operates the motor that is broken, is it possible, and what to do then? If I buy an all-new print board (attached underneath the drive), I've heard that the PS3 Motherboard will not accept the new print board?
Yes, the boards are locked to the main board of the PS3. I would consider why you think pcb might have failed. The only time I have encountered a faulty board and diagnosed this as the problem, the customer then told me he had rammed a knife into the console to try and recover his disc. The chip should not just fail.
It cannot be repaired, unfortunately, I was stupid to try remove the chip from the board, and now, I've thrown it away:S... I've heard somebody say that it is possible to flash the motherboard, so that a new printboard can be installed?
man my ps3 is just not sending the video signal ,only the audio signal, I just hear the sounds and can't see anything. I have an AV cable . what can I do ? can I repare it my self ?
You can touch something connected to earth, this will discharge built up static. To stop static building up, you can earth the body by connecting it to earth.
Anyone know anything about the updates crashing ps3 blue ray drives. This apparently happened to mine and possibly a million world wide. People are taking Sony to court ? Any fixes yet ?
I have heard this a lot on the update issue. Sony are obviously doing something, but they will not own up. Only fix is to replace the laser. We do lots of them.
Thanks for your reply . So is this a different laser ? Why would a program update burn out a laser ? If you get a new laser and you need to update again to play online wont the update burn out the laser again ?
There was a similar problem on version 9 and 10 of the PS2. Increasing the intensity of the laser until it failed. The problem on the PS3 is faulty Blu Ray emitters. Replacing with non faulty emitters will stop them blowing in the future.
i cleaned the blue ray lens and re assembled the unit but when i switched on there was a horrible ratchety gears clicking crunching noise have i misaligned something and how can i put it right any ideas cos i,m screeewed cheers
It was not the power source. The problem is on the Graphics chip, solder disconnects from the board and chip. Solder relfow using Infrared BGA is the only method recommended by Sony to repair this fault.
hi i have an original ps3 and it has stopped reading disks i have done a restore system defaults and this worked but only lasted a few days im going to try clean the lens today if that fails whats your address and how much for a lazer replacement ??
Hi Steve, can you help me with a problem I have with mine I have replaced the laser fine, and but it back together fine, the laser seems to work fine as well, blue light for blu ray red for dvd etc, and I have tried it with a couple of lasers now but the ps3 still wont recognise the disks? do you have a video showing what sort of movement the laser should be making when reading a blu ray as mine seems to make very little just within the inner of the disk. thanks for your help
SteveSpy1967, why would a laser emitter fail in 14 months!? I've never heard of an LED failing that fast unless the circuit design was plain WRONG. (Or designed to fail right after warranty!!)
My PS3 just died after 13 months. It had less than 200 hours of use, no dust in the environment, never hotter than 80F. There is NO EXCUSE for the unit to fail that soon, especially not for it to be a "common problem" !!
Should we expect to have to pay $150 every 14 months to keep this POS running?
The theory is that faulty lasers were fitted into certain models of PS3, as some are failing earlier than others. The replacement lasers, should last longer. I have seen many problems like this over the years, especially on the PS2.
after you remove the 3 little strips from the disc drive, the white with the blue tag, the brown with the black tape and the white one... where the hell can i buy those? i just cleaned my laser and those strips have fn vanished... i need to get those replaced for my 60gb system. a direct link if possible. please thanks
Its the Blue Ray laser emitter that fails. Replacing the laser unit is the in most cases, the only way to cure this fault. Sometimes cleaning the lens and prism can get you a few more days/weeks of usage.
i wanna know if you can buy screws like the ones in 1:15 because i messed up one of them becuase i didnt have the right screwdriver, anyone knows where to buy screws like that small?
Rear screws are similar in size to old PS2 internal screws. Front three black screws are similar to PS2 Laser case screws. I have spares for those if you are in Manchester.
well it depends what model you have, check the the back of your ps3 and all the way on the bottome theres like 2 stickers with words, if its says you have the CECHG01 then yea is the KES-400AAA but if you dont then is the KES-410 ACA
We charge £75 to replace the laser. We do not have any charges for opening the console as this is all included in the replacement charge. No fix, no fee. I am suprised someone else is operating differently.

Its the Blue Ray laser emitter that fails. Replacing the laser unit is the in most cases, the only way to cure this fault. Sometimes cleaning the lens and prism can get you a few more days/weeks of usage.

Rear screws are similar in size to old PS2 internal screws. Front three black screws are similar to PS2 Laser case screws. I have spares for those if you are in Manchester.

Any good DIY store. The lithium ones are the best.

We charge £75 to replace the laser. We do not have any charges for opening the console as this is all included in the replacement charge. No fix, no fee. I am suprised someone else is operating differently.
