science advances every single day from minor breakthroughs to major breakthroughs. They predict we will be on mars in 2020 but i wouldnt doubt that they will be their sooner. They predicted that the mars rover would last a few months, its lasted through 3 martian winters and it is still going strong for more than 5 years. You never know, that planet might be able to get to us. Sooner or later their will be an orbiter and we will soon know what lies on that planet.
