  • I hear only minor differences. CLearly the BATB theme is based on it.

  • Also, compare the soundtrack sequence "The West Wing" from Beauty and the Beast, where we get into the prologue motif (around 30 seconds, I think). It is much, much more similar to the Carnival of the Animals than the prologue.

  • @theovermindliveth That's what I was thinking. I think the similarities between those two are much, much more alike.

  • While they're not exactly the same song, it seems very clear that the Prologue from "Beauty and the Beast" samples and was inspired by "The Aquarium."

the section of the prologue from 0:53-1:01 is almost 100% identical to the section of the Aquarium from 1:28-1:38

  • Thank you for clarifying this! I *thought* they sounded very similar, but now I see that they are quite distinctive after all. :-)

  • well i love it

:) thank you for showing the differene!!!

  • Beauty & Beast Prologue Alan Menken 1:15

    Saint-Saens 0:37

  • I have a teacher at the university. Today disturbed I by the classroom, as I said, the two are not the same ...

  • Lol the second piece the waxahachie band is playing it and I'm apart of it

  • The West Wing track was inspired from the Aquarium. So, I'm sure that's why everyone thinks it is the same song..though, they are both clearly different from one another.

Beauty and the Beast was and is still my favorite Disney film, not just for the story, but also for the beautiful genius that went into the music of the film.

& Camille Saint-Saens will always be one of my favorite composers due to his amazing talent and genius as well.

  • But there was a Beauty And The Beast made that did have Aquarium and it was NOT the usual Disney one...it was something when I was much younger...and I can't seem to find the video...as if magic. But it did exist - and the film was MUCH shorter than Disneys

  • @MoonlightLunaticMan I doubt it. Especially since it magically disappeared. BUT that's not the issue. I just don't want people confusing this OR any piece in the Disney film with Carnival of the Animals.

  • @DragoneyesLC Disney are notorious for plagiarism, so it may have existed. and it's not unusual for low budget animations from the age of video to be very hard to find.

  • @IGaveMyNameToThatGuy though I should add Alan Menken is awesome. I'm not saying he's a crook just that it's perfectly possible that another version used Aquarium, and if so they may have drawn inspiration from that

  • @MoonlightLunaticMan i agree with you! i heard this song and i swear ive heard it in a movie before...but i cant find it :(

  • @missnerdism I haven't seen it myself, but, I've heard there is an episode of The Simpsons that plays this piece. I do believe the original Fantasia also has this in it, as well as some of the other Carnival movements.

  • @DragoneyesLC

The original Fantasia does not have anything by Camille Saint-Saens in it. The only one that has anything from Carnival of the Animals is Fantasia 2000, and that's only the Finale movement.

  • @ouisa03 Ah, my mistake I suppose. I haven't seen the original in its entirety in over 10 years, so my memory of it is a bit shot.

  • @missnerdism "The Aquarium" is used in the trailer for "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" movie trailer

  • I must agree completely! I'm a musician, and they are obviously two different pieces of music (both equally brilliant)! I think they have a similar quality in their mysterious sound, but they are definitely different! :)

  • You know your music well, DragoneyesLC. What do you think of Fossils from Carnival Of The Animals? Wasn't Camille Saint Saens a GENIUS!? :D

  • @jmadd232009 Why thank you jmadd! I actually haven't heard that movement! It's probably the only one of the whole suite I haven't listened to- though it has been awhile since I've listened to the others. My favorite movement is actually the Aquarium. He was a clever man indeed! It's easy to picture each animal or object with it's respective composition and I've seen many pieces try that with much less success than this composer! Mozart is by far my favorite though!

  • thank you i knew they were different too!

  • They sound similar, I can understand the confusion, but definitely different pieces

  • loll they don't sound the same at all

  • I think i actually prefer the beauty and the beast piece! Both are stunning but there is a difference.

  • There is a version of Beauty and the Beast with Carnival of The Animals as the soundtrack tho ... It was my favourite film as a child , i watched it until the tape broke , which is a shame , as now i can find a copy of that version anywhere !!

  • @Lelzer16 Hm when was it released this so called tape? I have a tape still from the first year it was released and I know it does NOT have the Carnival of the Animals on it. Are you referring to the music from the West Wing? Now some parts of that may be even more similar to the Aquarium Movement than the Prologue, but is still not the same piece. ;) ( I'd have to check the West Wing Music, I've not listened to it in awhile but, you still CAN tell the difference.)

  • @DragoneyesLC i'm not sure when the tape was released , but it was rather old already when i was about 6 yrs old ( i'm 16 now ) , but Carnival of the Animals Aquarium Movement WAS the soundtrack .... :)

  • @Lelzer16 Welp, mine's definitely older than you are, and is probably the same age as your copy. So you're fighting a losing battle in trying to convince me- you probably just think it's the Aquarium track because you haven't really listened to it in a long awhile and, as is obvious, the music is fairly similar.

  • @DragoneyesLC ok, for a definitive answer , to decide if it's the same tape , what colour eggs did belle's sister's want at the beginning of the movie ???

  • @Lelzer16 Belle does not have a sister- at least nothing is said of a sister in the movie. As far as color, I'd assume white like normal eggs. It's been awhile since I have watched my VHS copy, and trying to dig it up just prove something I know is correct would be a waste of my time. :P

  • @Lelzer16 No..I don't think so. The track The West Wing has is EXTREMELY similar to Aquarium. But there never was a release with Aquarium on the soundtrack.

  • fraternal twins, perhaps?

  • you are right that they are different, but that doesn't change their relationship. beauty and the beast was originally a french folktale. understandably, the music that inspired "the west wing" would be a selection from Le Carnaval des Animaux'. the cyclical movement is inverted, altering some of the minor chords into major, but an analysis would show the astounding similarities. disney was without a doubt, 100% influenced by camille saint-saens. good ears. • @pigletsnap Well reasoned.

  • @pigletsnap I don't mind saying they're very similar- even saying B&B's musical score was influenced by Carnival of the Animals; I'm pretty convinced it was. I'm getting tired of people saying they're the same piece and not giving each their due as separate musical masterpieces. Thanks for your comment!! It's nice to see it explained in better theoretical terms than I dare use! :P

  • Because it is confused with the West Wing music

  • You're right. Similar, but not the same! I love both pieces of music.
