I understand that these whales wouldn't survive in the wild because they were born in captivity. however, the original capture of their parents should never have happened. and instead of living in an oversized fishbowl, this calf could be swimming in the ocean with its mother.
@maryoverboard Pretty sure he/she IS with their mother. They don't separate families. They breed the whales and the parents are still there with their calves. You can often see calves with their mothers and even entire families/pods.
Come on people!! these animals were born and raised in captivity, and that is their permanent home, and will probably miss the company of people if let free in to the wild. Besides, the ocean will be way too scary, and most of all, THEY CANNOT LEARN HOW TO HUNT.
hes opening his mouth cause he feels like eating them and throwing them about. kids annoy killer whales so does flash photography, silly loud music - seaworlds are full of things that whales just dont like - its like after a while they get bored, f ucked in head and start really disliking their trainers and where they are at - and they just scream now and then to want to get out and be releases cause they've head enough of someone milking them and making them do silly tricks for money
@mylofox2020 its not easy to release a whale, how are you going to teach it how to hunt, throwing live fish in the tank? the ocean is not the same size as a pool...finding food in the ocean is harder than people think it is, i wish they were in the wild to but its harder then ignorant people like you think!
"making them do silly tricks for money"- they are not forced to do the tricks, if they dont want to they dont have to! what is the trainer going to do? educate yourself
I don't feel sorry at all for the trainers who die or is hurt by these magnificent animals.. I feel sorry for the animals cause nobody seems to get the message.. Its animal cruelty at its worse to keep them in captivity... How can people be so ignorant just because of their own amusement... I hope people who watch these shows would use their brains instead of being idiots... Watch the cove and get a knowledge on the subject instead of being so fucking selfish!!
@theicebabe Hahahahahah. SeaWorld have NEVER gotten a dolphin from the cove. They stopped capturing from the wild 30 years ago. Get your facts right before you mis-educate others too. Go to their YouTube channel, and watch the video "Investigation of The Cove Part 1". THAT is the truth.
Most of these animals could never be set free, but they shouldn't be at SeaWorld. It's so far removed from a suitable enviroment. Cetaceans are among the animals that are least suited to captivity. It's strange that whenever people talk of land animals in captivity, their arguments are not about a grotesquely small cage vs setting them free into the wild with no surivival skills. Both sides would be seen as insane to argue from those extremes. So why is this the norm regarding captive Orcas?
Well they should not have been captured in the first place you retard. So dont justify this solemn excuse for entertainment. Its sick. Fair enough those kids dont know any better but the sooner this stops the better.
You think it's "cruel" to save whales? These animals were either rescued or born there. And they grow strong bonds with their trainers. A lot like how your dog grows a stronger bond with you when you teach it tricks.
@7391j they weren't rescued. they were taken away from their families at a very young age. and yes, the others were born there. they have these instinct but have no idea why they can't act them out. it took a long time to domesticate dogs to what we have now. you think after just one generation of breeding that the whale is gonna completely forget about their instincts? yeah, good luck with that sea world.
to say that the captive born calvs don't know about the wild is like saying a captive born tiger believes it should be in a zoo. they're still wild, they still have instinct, and they DO know they don't belong there. and it's our selfish behavior that takes away that poor animals natural environment. breeding in captivity is just as bad as capturing an animal from the wild.
@TheWhaley6 mkay so your saying just cause we have a pet dog it wants to be free too like they used to be? or a bird wants to fly in the sky? or a rabbit wants to be in the fields? or a horse wants to run free? at what point do you guys call having animals justified..makes no sense. i think the whales are perfectly happy and they get taken very well care of....
@Cranma5678 you can tell when a dog, horse, bird, etc is unhappy. like when a bird stops singing or a horse stops running or eating. how can you tell if a 8,000 pound killer whale is unhappy? it kills it's trainers. time to change some things when the whale kills the thing it "trusts" the most. there's nothing wrong with keeping them in captivity--as long as the conditions are similar to their natural habitat and are big enough. you don't see zoos training their lions do you?
trainers say that for the most part the whales are VERY happy because they are praised. MASSAGED. FED FISH FROM A BUCKET... THEY WOULD NEVER GET THAT IN THE WILD!!
@MadisonLane121 - Your ignorance is very clear. An orca doesn't need "massages", "praise" or being spoon fed. These animals are denied EVERYTHING that is natural to them, and that, in itself, is cruel. They are wild creatures, and if one truly loves them, then you would respect their need for space, freedom, and a stable pod.
Yeah, the trainers said they were happy. The tobacco companies also said cigarettes didn't cause cancer.
Every Orca born in captivity receives an automatic life long jail sentence with absolutely no chance of parole. This is not a domestic reared animal but still an instinctually wild animal cast into a Circus environment.
@TheMonkkiller Ha, Most of the killer whales at seaworld are either icelandic or N/S resident. Only transient orcas hunt mammals. Some pods ONLY hunt fish..
nahh ,he dont , if you are bully'ing it than it will kill you but otherwise they dont seem to like humans for food , they are just curious and residents are friendly to. I think it should be free in the wild but that also counts for zoo animals.
Even though they're not tortured, their confinement is still a sick sense of entertainment. Many Orcas n other dolphins end up committing suicide from the stress. Their breathing is a conscious effort, and if they can't handle stress anymore all they have to do is stop breathing. I'd say about out of every 5 or 6ish dolphins who are captured, only one survives, and not for the full amount it would have lived in the ocean.
They're smarter than people give them credit for. I hate the women who said "he's like 'oh it's a fish!'" Thinking that this animal is only concerned with food like how a dog looks at you while you eat. But they're not dogs, and they can't be domesticated (and the ability to learn tricks and be nice around people is not being domestic) They know what they're looking at more than we do. They can see right through us, they can see our heart beat, they can see if we're pregnant, etc
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
They shouldn't allow this torture and childeren learn to access this wrongdoing by the ahh and oohh of there corrupt parents. These animals don't have a minute rest, always entertain those two legs mammals with less brains.
the poor whales don't belong in captivity, whne people bang on the tanks it messes with their echo-location. Plus they have no where else to go to get away from annoying people.
@14dlns but you cant put them back into the wild once they've become accustomed to being fed.. especially ones who where born in captivity... they wouldnt know how to hunt for food in the whild and wouldnt last very long
The most intelligent creature in the ocean...I wonder what orcas think when they see all these people. Are they observing our actions just as we're observing theirs?
"That little female human keeps waving that piece of paper around. I think she wants my autograph...I'm sorry, little human! I can't give you my autograph, because I can't write! Because I have no opposable thumbs! Man, we need to get some of those. We'd be running this theme park in no time."
this is a bit harsh teasing the whale with hats and a dolphin if i was that whale i would of gobbled them kids up thats afer i have broke the glass lol
i understand that, but a lot of other people don't. they see these videos and say "the whale wants to be free, etc., etc.", not realizing that some of these whales were born in these parks, and don't know anything about the wild.
yeah but do you think he would love people pressing their noses up to the tank and flashes from the camera, always people around their tanks, if you bang on their tanks they can hear it across the other side. Besides no one knows what they prefer...we don't speak Orca.
@JoshBraunz You're right. But, they're here and we can't just airlift them out to sea and drop them in the water. Look at Keiko. Sure he was returned to the ocean and interacted with wild orcas, but he never actually joined a pod and continued to seek attention from humans
ok this is why kalia is my second favorite killer whale at sea world san diego....this is like the fourth video i've seen with her interacting with kids....she is so wonderfully curious and cute......it was kinda sad watching her try and get the toy fish thinking it was a reward for her though
but still, the noises they are making such as laughing and talking is defeaning for the whales, they have very sensitive hearing. So at the shows, the music and screams of the public must be horribly deafening.
nature is beautiful in nature, not in a tank. Nature is sad and destroyed when in a tank. Killer whales are who they are in the wild, their rightful home.
@bumble1995 exactly.. you cant put them out into the wild cause they're used to being given their meals instead of hunting for them... they wouldnt last very long
there are only 2 seaworld's in the US and both of them have the same names for the killer whales but there is only 1 true Shamu, the one in Florida, with the other killer whales that have the same names as the San Diego sea world
There's actually 3 Seaworlds currently in the United States, Orlando, San Diego, and San Antonio. There is no Shamu, the original Shamu died at Seaworld Sandiego in 1971. Today it's just used as a stage name for their popular "Shamu Shows", all of the whales have their own individual names though :)
No. Sea World San Antonio in Texas. And they have theyre own names, but on stage theyre all "Shamu" so they dont confuse people when one dies. Yes, the one who started it all was"Shamu" theyre real names are - Corky, Kasatka, Ulises, Orkid, Sumar, Nakai, Kalia, Kyuquot, Keet, Unna, and Takara.
it is NOT sad that orcas r bred into captivity we get such a special moment if we ever get 2 c them, plus it helps 2 protect them in the wild & really shows the beauty of them inside & out!
i think it tight these whales could obviously never go bk to the wild they too soft but i truley think that after these ones they should stop addin more i really do say no of them bred they should not be pushed to n they should just let them fade frm sea world altogether its just mean xxx
why does everyone assume its teasing and that its so terrible!!! baby shamu is probably enjoying that! Just like when you tease ur dog with toys by playing tug of war. the dog loves it!!
i totally agree with you that they just cannot be put back into the wild its like putting a human beeing who was born in a big city into the jungle. he never would survive
THEY WERE BORN IN CAPTIVITY YOU CANNOT JUST PUT THEM BACK INTO THE WILD. Besides the killer whale program and holding tanks @ san diego zoo are the best in the world, this isnt china, we arent feeding cows to tigers, this shit is the best of the best.
I would bet anything that the orca thought that the little boy's stuffed dolphin was a real fish! And probably thought he was going to give it to him too! Too funny.

SeaWorld also states that 26
orcas have been born in captivity, lauding this as a success.
This is a significant misrepresentation of the facts; there have actually
been at least 66 known pregnancies, but most fetuses miscarried, were
stillborn, or died soon after birth (one newborn calf dying soon
after the paper was accepted for publication),at least 61% of captive orca pregnancies have been unsuccessful, due
to the death of the calf before or just after birth. Naomi A. Rose-PhD-2009

Cassandra123able 2 years ago
all orcas, especially Lolita should be retired and put back into the ocean, their rightful home.
queenofthevideos 2 years ago
rigth,I mean that all the orca shoud go home to the big blue ocean, hunting fish, seals and sharks and enjoy theyr free life
Cassandra123able 2 years ago
exactly.
queenofthevideos 2 years ago
well a lot of the orcas are born at sea world and have no clue about the wild
bumble1995 2 years ago
that's not strictly true. please read the case against marine mammals in captivity. its free read on the internet
queenofthevideos 2 years ago
@bumble1995 exactly.. you cant put them out into the wild cause they're used to being given their meals instead of hunting for them... they wouldnt last very long

"Shamu" died in the 70's. but to avoid confusion, that is all of theyre stage names. the real names are-
San Antonio - Kyuquot, Keet, Unna, and Takara
San Diego - Corky, Kasatka, Ulises, Orkid, Sumar, Nakai, and Kalia.
Orlando - Katina, Kalina, Tilikum, Taima, Kayla, Trua, Nalani, and Malia

there are only 2 seaworld's in the US and both of them have the same names for the killer whales but there is only 1 true Shamu, the one in Florida, with the other killer whales that have the same names as the San Diego sea world
theatremagic157 2 years ago
You forgot the one in Texas!! o.O
animegirl687 2 years ago 6
Theatremagic:
The first Shamu died many years ago. Shamu is just a show name or a "Last name" for the Orca's now.
BabyGlory 2 years ago 3
There's actually 3 Seaworlds currently in the United States, Orlando, San Diego, and San Antonio. There is no Shamu, the original Shamu died at Seaworld Sandiego in 1971. Today it's just used as a stage name for their popular "Shamu Shows", all of the whales have their own individual names though :)
flargmuffin92 2 years ago 4

I was going to comment with the same thing. Some people have no social regard whatsoever.

YouHangUp1 3 years ago
it is NOT sad that orcas r bred into captivity we get such a special moment if we ever get 2 c them, plus it helps 2 protect them in the wild & really shows the beauty of them inside & out!

i think it tight these whales could obviously never go bk to the wild they too soft but i truley think that after these ones they should stop addin more i really do say no of them bred they should not be pushed to n they should just let them fade frm sea world altogether its just mean xxx
fittiemcvittie83 3 years ago
they dont add more, simply the ones in captivity bread, and well you cant seperate a baby from its mother can you?
So there borin into captivity, its quite sad really.
CreativityCam1 3 years ago
Lol I would be scared they would burst through the tank xD
FayeChan01 3 years ago
isn't that white line there for a reason? To stop people walking over it and crowding/teasing the whales
britchick84 3 years ago 2
why does everyone assume its teasing and that its so terrible!!! baby shamu is probably enjoying that! Just like when you tease ur dog with toys by playing tug of war. the dog loves it!!
kristakdc77 3 years ago
i totally agree with you that they just cannot be put back into the wild its like putting a human beeing who was born in a big city into the jungle. he never would survive
paulteutuljunior88 3 years ago 4
Worse than that they trust humans and the Japanese would butcher them....so they need to stay where they are...
Clydene 3 years ago
THEY WERE BORN IN CAPTIVITY YOU CANNOT JUST PUT THEM BACK INTO THE WILD. Besides the killer whale program and holding tanks @ san diego zoo are the best in the world, this isnt china, we arent feeding cows to tigers, this shit is the best of the best.
stormfox1 3 years ago 6
u said it bro

I would bet anything that the orca thought that the little boy's stuffed dolphin was a real fish! And probably thought he was going to give it to him too! Too funny.
RHAPSODYKAT 3 years ago
WOW!
How cool is that!
I didn't realise they came right up to the glass and waited around like that.
Shame about the old hag that came along and stood right in front of you there.
