Congratulations Australian brothers, those Olympics were fantastic. And the opening and closing ceremonies were truly magical. A big hug from this Mexican brother. I love you Christine Anu, I love you Australia, thank you very much for those unforgettable Olympic Games."Aussie Aussie Aussie, Oi Oi Oi"

Got my vote on the anthem-issue!!!!!! Time for a change and this song rocks!!!!!
Christine was at a local bar where I play at in Port Macquarie and she sang a tune while I was on guitar on July 7 this year. Beautiful lady, full of charm and charisma. Great experience.
Bourke and the Desert is where you belong.................. you have made no impact on our country!!!! you cant still not work out what a wheel is!!!!!!or what a life is!!!!
my home is australia we are a land bound by sea and thought i may travel far across the ocean it will never forget me damn its so good to be australian
A beautiful song about a beautiful country filled with beautiful people. We are so fortunate to live here. Thinking of those poor folk who lost their lives yesterday in the sea off Christmas Island...........
I was in grade 1 when the olympic games were in sydney, and im in grade 12 now. I really wish i was this age now, to really truly experience what this meant to australians. Just magical.
@LiloPlease I was in year 11 when the Olympics were on. Me and my mates had just started driving so we went into the city heaps of nights when the games where on. It was an amazing time for Sydney.
when this song was played at the olympics i felt so proud to be Aboriginal and I'm still proud love my culture and my people. All Australians were united as one that nite you can't beat that feeling
My Island Home - always reminds me of home; Australia ... Love you and miss you so so much. Can't hardly wait to get back and kiss your golden soil Muaahhh.
So many memories with this song. Yes, those were two divine weeks of peace and happiness beyond description in September 2000. Thankyou for sharing.
For those with retarded issues by birth, Australia is THE BEST and most gorgeous country in the world. Be grateful for it or more than welcome to leave where you came from!!!
This song represents Australia as a country worlds away from the rest of the universe. The incredible multiculturalism combined with the real Australian way are a wonderful asset to a country so rich with the worlds finest people - Aboriginal, European, Asian, African, American - we are all Australian. Acceptance is something we pride ourselves on. Being Australian is a gift - it is here where we only know peace and love without war. Sure, there are problems, but we live on.
I am not Australian, but after listening to this song. I would love to come visit this awesome country. Certainly, an incredible singer. You guys are lucky to have such talent in Australia.
I'll just say to all of you America Bashers that I am a proud American who loves Australia. Like Canada, Australia is our sister country; and since all nations have faults, I for one will not point fingers but instead proudly celebrate with my Aussie cousins for a spectacular 2000 Olympics, and especially for this emotion-inducing song whose meaning reaches beyond the borders of Australia. As they say in the musical "CHESS", my land's only borders lie around my heart - which is my island home.
I have been watching the games since '76 and after the roo's on bikes thing in 96 I was nervous what we would show the world in 00. The games were great and then this came on. Chrstine started with that sweet voice, I got goosebumps, I was so proud to be an aussie. When the camera panned at 1:50 my jaw dropped. Then at 2:15 at 3:52, you could tell it was a special place to be. I ignore the negative because to me it was a very special moment we showed the world what we are and what we can do.
When your an aussie living in the United States and all you ever see is American Flags flying, It brings a tear to your eye just to hear this song, I really do miss home, Its just not the same here

I've been to Hawaii, I've lived in the Caribbean and my family are from the Dalmatian islands in Croatia, so, I think 'the most beautiful islands in the world' is a very subjective statement, depending on who said it and what their tastes in lifestyle are like. i remember many years ago sitting in a pub in leichhardt in sydney having a quiet beer when christine came in and sat down and chilled..I remember a peaceful aura about her..watching this clip makes me miss so much about australia..wonderful tune isn't it and captures the spirit I think of the most fantastic games ever seen. love it!
Way for white australia to co-opt a fucking devestating song about the destruction of a way of life to sell fucking ad shoes with some shitty dance music lite remix version.
If u like this search warumpi band my island home and see the original. Listen to an island man from the tropics sing about living in the dessert. Now thats makes u think of home and family.
I agree with you all. I'm a guy in my 30's and first heard this song when she sang it at the Olympics. This song was so intensely emotional and beautiful that it was like she reached into my chest and plucked my heart out. This song is like a primal call to everyone to remember the most important thing in the world - home, life, family. Though the "island home" in the song is technically Australia, to me the "island home" is our fragile and precious world floating among the stars.
You should listen to the original version by the Warumpi Band, the aboroginal band. It has more soul in it and captures the feeling much better. check it out, it's also on youtube.
I have no doubt that China could probably build a 200000 plus seater for the olympics and still fill it. Not what I;m getting at tho, it was just a piece of factual information
I totally agree...it's a song that wrenches the heart and brings up such basic human emotions. I'm not from Australia either, but a good friend of mine was and we watched and talked about the Olympics in Sydney together. I loved this song after the first time I heard it.
huh? if you read what I say I say the Birdnest isnt as big as Stadium Australia was as it was configured for the Olympics. However it Now is as Stadium Australia (ANZ Stadium) only holds about 85000. Learn to read
Stadium Australia was the largest olympic stadium ever built, holding 110 000 spectators for the olympic games. Since then it has been reconfigured for sports requiring an oval, reducing it's capacity to about 84 000.
yes stadium Australia held 110,000 for the olympics, the largest ever built for the games and yes was reduced to 85 ooo with movable seating for rectangular and oval shaped fields, The birdsnest for he olympics is 95 000 and will be reduce to 78 000 so stadium astralia is still bigger, also london stadium is planned for 95 000 in 2012, so Stadium Australia will be the biggest ever Olympic Stadium for a long time to come
Don't get too cocky, my friend....Your country for all it's achievements and accomplishments didn't spend over 40 billion dollars to host your Olympic games. No country could afford that or put on the same display as China has.
diddn't need to waste that amount of money, we arlready had clean air, and sporting facilities, plus we wern't a communist nation trying to prove something to the west. anyway bench marks are made to be broken, that is the philosophy of the games, breaking records, having set such a high benchmark austrlia would be proud that we have driven other countries to new heights
Neil Murray's version is 100 times better (considering he wrote the song) - check it out - insert "2 song men My Island Home" into the Youtube searcher. You won't be disappointed.
aboriginal contemporary dances/stories really keep me on the edge of my seat for me its really inspiring =] i got goosebumps when i went and saw bangarra
I love the video but I have a huge problem with the language used on this post - Why do people have to resort to offensive language - constructive criticism surely is better than offending others with your disgusting language.

id love to have every country in the world to be able to come and live here,,,,,,,,,, but im racist....CAUSE.... i have a problem with paying my taxes for abo's that still cant feed and live of the land...........what would Australia be if the english didnt come here...?????? Sydney would be a Burnt out fire place with unciontrollable people trying to sniff anything they could!!!!!...
Troyboy1976, what exactly is the point of a post like this? Go to some crazy racist person website and wallow in your nastiness. This is a great song and seeing your comments really ruined it for me.
geezz...troydboy1978 man if you ever said those things to my face my family and extended family in australia and the island would have your head watch what you say you racist bastard cause in aboriginal
@troydboy1976 U r scum mate im Aboriginal and proud of it. Im a Scholar I have a diploma in Comunity services and a Bachelor of arts and now studying my masters i feed off your hate, it makes me stronger and more willing to be the best i can be...
@djahfari21 huh all the dancers are black man. dont say ur one of those rude guys thinkin coz they not black as the ace of spades they aint black it doesnt work like that. As you know Australian Aboriginals come in differnt shades from olive to purple black depends on ur family line i know that we have irish in us coz my grandmothers. great grandmother had five children to him in the 1850s. was the last full blood in our family tree, but we never knew grew up with the white side we grew up black
comments made on this site were not from me. Some idiot obviously has access to my account and posted their two-bit comments. I have copped a lot of negative feedback from others as a result. My apologies if anyone was offended even though I never made those comments
exactly...Australia is soooo good, honestly FUCK everyone who disses it,,,bloody heelll to anyone who insults it...IT MAKES ME SOOO FUCKING ANGRY suchna good place !!!!
Wesjamie, You brought the grog to us ok and centrelink is because we have to abide by your rules. I hate child molestors but where do you think we learnt these behaviours? YOU!

The Aborigines must be the unluckiest people on Earth. First they inhabit a land that has bugger all. Everything we consume and use today(except macadamia nuts)comes from the great land mass of Africa/Asia/Europe. Then Europeans arrive with disease, guns and grog. Poor bastards- they lost the lot.
come on, quit with the selfishness...it´ not just YOUR country..I mean geez come on pfft man gees come on! ´´Free country´´ that is wh Melboure is the city with the most GREEK population after Athens
This song was originally about the Torres Strait Islands (the bit of islands between QLD and Papua New Guinea in the ...um... Torres Strait. That is where Anu is from. However, for this performance she adapted it to mean 'Australia'. Great song! Great singer, Best Ever Olympic Games. Well done Seed-ney.
pretty sure there is no desert in torres strait loveeee. get ya facts strate she is torres strait islander but the song is australian and made for australia....and bill murray wrote it not christina anu! and Bill is Australiannnnnnnnnnn
"My Island Home" was written by Neil Murray. He originally performed it with his band The Rainmakers, Christine was kind of his apprentice. She'd sing backing vocals for the band's shows until he let her take control of "My Island Home". This has got to be the highlight of her career, a breath taking performance.
@ashleighness90 are you sure man coz My island home was composed by the Warumpi band back in 1981,My island home and Black boy were there main songs look it up man
@jwul004 no its not this song is an old song By an Aboriginal Band the Warumpi Band brang this out in 1988. Jus to let you know Christine is also half Aboriginal thats where she gets her from shes related to the chapmans.
London shouldn't have gotten 2012 games. I'd loved it if NY had, imagine if they used the statue of liberty as the torch holder how beautiful that'd look! (I'm an aussie btw)
AMAZING!!!!!!!!! Totally captured my spirit, thanks for letting me relive my childhood :)

Though the "island home" in the song is technically Australia, to me the "island home" is our fragile and precious world floating among the stars.

pfft haha, gay much?
like yeah its a good song but i wouldnt say she plucked my fucking heart out!!
but thats just my opinion....

Gunnar00 3 years ago 7
I totally agree...it's a song that wrenches the heart and brings up such basic human emotions. I'm not from Australia either, but a good friend of mine was and we watched and talked about the Olympics in Sydney together. I loved this song after the first time I heard it.

Still a cool stadium, however that Bejing one is spectacular, not as big as Stadium Australia was tho
Clayton240183 3 years ago 2
Actually Stadium Australia holds more then the Bird nest... lol sozzzzzz bird nest only holds about 90 000 Stadium Aus holds more then 100 000
Sodiuml 3 years ago
huh? if you read what I say I say the Birdnest isnt as big as Stadium Australia was as it was configured for the Olympics. However it Now is as Stadium Australia (ANZ Stadium) only holds about 85000. Learn to read
Clayton240183 3 years ago
Stadium Australia was the largest olympic stadium ever built, holding 110 000 spectators for the olympic games. Since then it has been reconfigured for sports requiring an oval, reducing it's capacity to about 84 000.
clipper91 3 years ago 2
yes stadium Australia held 110,000 for the olympics, the largest ever built for the games and yes was reduced to 85 ooo with movable seating for rectangular and oval shaped fields, The birdsnest for he olympics is 95 000 and will be reduce to 78 000 so stadium astralia is still bigger, also london stadium is planned for 95 000 in 2012, so Stadium Australia will be the biggest ever Olympic Stadium for a long time to come
readyboy31 3 years ago
Don't get too cocky, my friend....Your country for all it's achievements and accomplishments didn't spend over 40 billion dollars to host your Olympic games. No country could afford that or put on the same display as China has.
AliehsLive 3 years ago
diddn't need to waste that amount of money, we arlready had clean air, and sporting facilities, plus we wern't a communist nation trying to prove something to the west. anyway bench marks are made to be broken, that is the philosophy of the games, breaking records, having set such a high benchmark austrlia would be proud that we have driven other countries to new heights

It brought such a sense of unity and multiculturalism. It was truly touching.

This has got to be the highlight of her career, a breath taking performance.
ashleighness90 3 years ago
@ashleighness90 are you sure man coz My island home was composed by the Warumpi band back in 1981,My island home and Black boy were there main songs look it up man

jwul004 3 years ago
@jwul004 no its not this song is an old song By an Aboriginal Band the Warumpi Band brang this out in 1988. Jus to let you know Christine is also half Aboriginal thats where she gets her from shes related to the chapmans.
