Colonel Quaritch? the most awesome motherfucker in that movie. I mean the sheer amount of determination that guy has is really inspiring. Regardless of whether or not he was in the wrong, his desire to succeed was admirable, and i rooted for him, because in the end he was fighting against an entire fucking planet
a world such as pandora dont deserve to de discovered by humans, we'll only destroy it like we are doing to earth, blowing it up with nukes and tearing it apart with warfare, humans are the most destructive thing there is, why can we learn to live in harmony and take care of our planet, we evolved from bacteria for a reason, we were given the task of looking after earth, and we cant manage that, its like man kind has failed their mission, makes me feel so sad :'(
@tiagandremo We have absolutely no obligation to look after the Earth for for any other reason than self interest. Nature is just a pile of resource, and all Humans and animals alike to use it as such. And the rest you hint towards are nothing but wide-eyed idealistic bullshit. Put your feet back on the ground and drink some hefty dose of the concept called reality. Being idealistic is one thing, but you need to be equally as pragmatic as well or there is no future.
@Cordar Isn't it no wonder that people dream towards idealism when the alternative is cold, soulless pragmatism? Your words: 'Nature is just a pile of resource' just depresses me. Of course nature is a resource, but the moral obligation still stands to respect that resource for our own enduring survival, both spiritualy & practically. I agree, many people are naively idealistic, but even (refering to other comment) if 'Unobtanium' is more useful, that doesn't justify what happened in the film.
@sexipants But that's the truth, the very core of the matter. To all living things, everything else in nature are nothing but resources.
And as for Unobtanium being useful, better put, It's a vital resource, the holy grail in other words, essential to stop Earth's severe energy crysis once and for all. We are talking billions of lives depending on that resource. I'd say what the RDA had to do to get to that resource were acceptable measures.
No, unfortunately, I can't agree with you. Destroying a home for the Na'vi just to take all of the underground Unobtanium to use to save billions of lives? You render thousands of Na'vi homeless to retrieve more Unobtanium NOT TO SAVE EARTH'S SEVERE ENERGY CRISIS but instead to use it for continuous space flight and the continuous inventions of other mechanisms. I don't think that destroying an entire home and a vital part to Pandora's ecosystem was the only option to get the mineral.
@awsmegiratina13 A few hundred. One tribe with such a life style can't support thousands.
And you obviously don't know about how useful room-temperature superconductors actually are. Such materials have a truly vast number of uses. And it was intended for use in part to save Earth's energy crisis, the background clearly states that.
@Cordar finally someone else that knows about these but the only problem with room temp superconductors is the fact that they are not ass effective as regular ones.
Excuse me, but I don't think you will live until 2154 to find out what room-temperature superconductors are. And if you read "A Confidential Report on the Biological and Social History of Pandora," then you will see how the RDA has used the mineral to colonize other planets and construct spaceships to fly elsewhere. Unobtanium acts like two magnets that makes objects hover (Hallelujah Mts.) and consumes less power for machinery to run. I don't think they're using it to save Earth...
@awsmegiratina13 In actuality, room-temperature superconductors are highly sought after here in this current age. It's not for the sheer hell of it that scientists today refer to it as the holy grail.
And background information says otherwise, that it is vital to help with Earth's energy crisis.
In REALITY, they are not real. They are sought after, but not real (yet). I will uphold my theory, though, that the RDA is only using the Unobtanium for machinery purposes. I suppose you saw the movie? Then you might recognize this quote from Selfridge: "...because this little gray rock sells for 20 million a kilo. That's the only reason. It's what pays for the whole party. It's what pays for your science. ¿Comprendo?" You see?
@awsmegiratina13 You're overlooking that the RDA, aka, the Resource Development Agency, have as their job to gather and produce resources which are then passed on to other companies and firms to put into practical use. And he does have a point, the Unobtanium is the only thing that makes the whole enterprise affordable. Also, one needs to consider for payment to personnel involved on both planets and between, equipment and delivery time, so that adds to the price too.
Sam Worthington, in the movie, explained that they don't receive decent pay for being transported to Pandora. Besides, according to Dr. Augustine, the RDA won't care to pollute Earth's atmosphere because they have already colonized the moon and Mars. All they have to do is take over Pandora. That's why they want the Unobtanium --- so that they could use the element for mass production of machinery and colonize Pandora.
James horner is just a great composer, love his work. As for this Na'vi thing and Pandora, it is just a movie people, dont go killing yourselfs in the belief that you will end up in Pandora and become a Na'vi... seriously.... thats just pathetic.
wow people...its a fucking movie...marines first to fight OORAH! personally id fight for the humans...seeing i am one, dont get me wrong the navi are cool, but im a human and thats what im staying as...although the blacks and jews and indians cant make me feel bad for slavery and such, i dnt feel bad for the "holocuast" yes it sucks it happened, but i was 60 years ago, way worse has happeneed. Stalin was worse...just stop believing the news and go do your own research...
@0122358 what! how could you even say that?! humans are greedy people. think of the native americans "seeing that I am one" i would choose their side. Also you would kill people just for some stupid rock? what kind of person ar you?
@0122358 what! how could you even say that?! humans are greedy people. think of the native americans "seeing that I am one" i would choose their side. Also you would kill people just for some stupid rock? what kind of person ar you? jeez
@tika10167 The difference from examples like the Conquistador's attacking natives for their gold (which had no practical use) is that Unobtanium is actually an important and very useful resource according to the background information. The natives had already harassed and very likely killed civilians just because they were digging. If I was one of the security personnel over there, I'd butcher the Na'vi without hesitation. In the end, I'm Human and my loyalty will stay with Humans, not Na'vi.
@0122358 It, like many films, is a metaphor that stretches far beyond the boundaries of the screen to people long after they've stopped looking at it. Expect people to be passionate about FKing movies..
One thing that struck me was; even though the humans are far more technologically advanced and evolved, the Na'vi somehow stands as the superior race. I would give my balls to be one of the Omaticaya...
Saw it once in 3D and again just now in IMAX 3D. If this movie doesn't evoke some sort of passion from you or make you rethink life then you aren't human.
hah i wish the 3D when you buy the movie was the same as in the actual theatre... sucks! hah i just got movie tickets for christmas and guess what movie im gonna go see in 3D :D ahahahahahahaha im so excited!!!
ok so i saw avatar in 3D tonight and it was good but i didnt see it in an imax theatre so it wasnt that different. :[ but it was still fn seeing it today :D
