There was a guy around our neighborhood who would go around telling everyone he was from Los Angeles, out of money and out of gas and ask for help. Word quickly got around that he was a scam artist.
Its' hard because when you do really run across someone who needs help you are suspicious.

@jhblazeraider yea but in my side of the story, my dad runs a business and this guy wrote my dad a check, however the customer's account is now closed so my dad took it to the bank but couldnt cash the check, the the crook was long gone, im assuming my dad probably had his phone number, so my dad turned the check over to the police and the cop didnt do anything(even if its got the crook's signature) so the crook got away with it.
@Alan4017 that sucks, im no law professor but thats got to be illegal.it probably depends on the dollar amount and what state your in. obviously we are talking about two different situations. the crook was able to cash three of the checks totaling over $1500 before getting nabbed . i was lucky , my bank reimbursed me in full plus a week later my car(1974 260Z) was recovered intact without damage. SO LUCKY!!! anyway have a good one...
The sheriff got it wrong. People MUST be willing to step forward and deal with criminals whenever reasonably possible to do so. There are just not enough police around to take care of us.

This is an old scam.
There was a guy around our neighborhood who would go around telling everyone he was from Los Angeles, out of money and out of gas and ask for help. Word quickly got around that he was a scam artist.
Its' hard because when you do really run across someone who needs help you are suspicious.
Where do these people come from and have so little morals to do this?

@blackmetalbozeman666 your right, here in california we got criminals that can write bad checks and get away with it, you know why? because it may not be the cops fault for this, buts the california law itself, even if you got solid evidence that it was a bad check(signature, etc) the nothing really the cop can do, its like the laws were designed to help the criminals.
however if you live in Utah(i forgot which state it was) u can press charges if you have solid proof.

@Alan4017 sorry but thats incorrect, my checkbook was stolen along with my cat witch was parked in front of my house in oakland california. as i attempted to go to work ate 4:30 am the car was gone . i filed a report with the police at about 5 am then reported the stolen checks to the bank at 9. a few days later i got a call from a guy saying he worked at a check cashing place and some woman was there trying to cash one of my checks for $500, well to make this short the bitch is still an jail

@jhblazeraider yea but in my side of the story, my dad runs a business and this guy wrote my dad a check, however the customer's account is now closed so my dad took it to the bank but couldnt cash the check, the the crook was long gone, im assuming my dad probably had his phone number, so my dad turned the check over to the police and the cop didnt do anything(even if its got the crook's signature) so the crook got away with it.

@Alan4017 that sucks, im no law professor but thats got to be illegal.it probably depends on the dollar amount and what state your in. obviously we are talking about two different situations. the crook was able to cash three of the checks totaling over $1500 before getting nabbed . i was lucky , my bank reimbursed me in full plus a week later my car(1974 260Z) was recovered intact without damage. SO LUCKY!!! anyway have a good one...
