I've always understood "mouth music", as Fionnghuala is often called, to be using "nonsense" syllables to create a pleasing rhyhtmic refrain. So as a non-speaker of Gaelic I always wonder when hearing this piece, how much of what they sing is "scat" and how much is actual speech? Help requested from Gaelic speakers, please!
@alonzogarbanzo I actually believe that the Scots came up with this form of music to emulate their banned bagpipes, or at least that's the story I read somewhere.
