  • anyone know what kind of guitar that is?

  • i love this.

  • I love love and love them!

  • love this...ive always been a huge Arcade Fire fan, "us kids know"

  • boooo!

  • arcade fire's version is 1000% better than the magentic fields

  • @MrGazo66

Sound wise I agree , but who wrote the song ?

    Not a ripp.

  • listened to original version and love Arcade Fire's the BEST

  • i love how he sounds here. i kinda wish he'd get sick more often. that scruffy, raw sound just makes me melt!

  • anyone know what kinda acoustic that is?

  • There's so much emotion in any song Arcade Fire plays. Whether they originally wrote it or not.

  • I can't believe that Arcade fire sing a song by magnetic Fields...please to hear that, one of my favourite song, but still prefer Magnetic version .

  • hipsters would love this shit

  • Definitely not better than the original Magnetic Fields version. Still pretty great through.

  • i honestly think they did horrible with age of consent but this and all of the other covers are better then the originals in my opinion. the arcade fire are a sacred band!

  • Calmer'n you are.

  • This isn't nearly as good as Mag Fields version. Win sounds incredibly weak. He also begins the song with...verse 2 or 3? Stick to grandiose sing-alongs (which you do very well!) and leave the sardonic pop to Stephin.

  • @SweepTheLegYo calm down..please

  • I'd like to know how you can proclaim this better than Stephen Merritt's song.

  • Where can I find the mp3 of this? It's been deleted from every database I can find!

  • @djorvix

I found it on skreemr, then downloaded it through a firefox plugin.

  • awesome band..!!!!

  • too much cocaine

  • lovely.

  • These go a little over the top.. i love Arcade Fire.. but come on now.

  • @snowgod37

    Indeed.

    Go to the original.

  • a better band never covers a song.. it never happens..

  • no, a better band never covers a song exactly, they interpret the music. it doesnt mean all good bands dont cover others

  • Awesomeness

  • The meaning comes across well and I have watched this a few times so I guess that says something. Have to take issue (or at elast a pinch of salt) with the idea that the Arcade fire are remotely close in either musical or songwriting abilty to the Magnetic Fields! I have no more claim to objectivity than anyone else, so it shouldn't bother me, but somehow it does! Maybe a comparison of both bands top 300 songs would decide it once and for all!

  • genial ... thx.

    peace & B wild.

  • Love this guys voice, from what I can tell, seems this was aone off...Phil Spector is staring at a ceiling in gaol and the Ronnettes are crying theft.

  • ha ha!so true!

  • Oh no! What's wrong with Win's voice?

  • @bilbomarks

Win tends to get a bit of a vibrato live. One time I could have sworn he was crying when he was singing Haiti.

  • @ButlerMoz It's not the vibrato. It sounds like he damaged his vocal chords. Possibly giving his all on a performance the night before. He's definitely not 100% here.

  • sehr.sehr gut...

  • i actually like this cover much more than the original. i do like magnetic fields, but not this song. this, arcade fire version i like. very much.

  • This is a decent cover. And Arcade Fire are at least as capable as Stephen Merrit in song writing.

  • Are you kidding? All he does is play guitar and sing over it. It's the least inventive cover of all time. And saying "The Arcade Fire are at least as capable as Stpehin Merrit in song writing" is like saying Britney Spears is the next Mozart.

  • @Watermark0n And making comparisons like that based on art which is entirely subjective is fucking ridiculous. so are you kidding? Magnetic fields wrote a lot of good songs, but far many more ..crap songs.. imo at least. Things that must have taken 5 minutes to write, but fair enough if you like it. Art is subjective. Take your fucking conceited aggression elsewhere

  • @Watermark0n STFU PLEASE!!!!! I know Magnetic Fields are amazing, but Arcade Fire's Funeral destroys every magnetic fields anything...anything after funeral Magnetic Fields is better

  • @SilentEcho33

Have you not heard 69 love songs?

  • @SilentEcho33 neon bible, and the first ep are amazing.

  • ... It just sounds go good.

  • This is great!!! Really....

    Thanks Arcacde and Magnetic...

  • touching, amazing cover, love both tmf and taf!

  • I genuinely do not understand Arcade Fire's knack of covering great songs - this, Age of Consent, State Trooper... - and doing a better job of them than the original artist. Awesome, awesome band, totally unique.

  • pfffft, anyone who thinks this is better than the magnetic fields version is a fool. sorry, the arcade fire is great, but they'll never be able to write a song like stephen merritt can, and can't perform them like him either.

  • IMO, Arcade have greatest songs than MF, more socials, far of the indie self concept that characterize MF.

  • couldnt agree more! personally i think covering a song like this is a cop out for not being able to write a song this good in the first place. especially how he didn't even try to change it up at all except for the vocals

  • What are you on about? just enjoy the music you big complainer!

  • not complaining mate, it's just what i think

  • ah,fair enough.

  • i actually like the arcade fire, thats why i bothered to say something. cause i think they can do better, thats all

  • This is obviously a tribute. He even justifies the cover on the recording.

  • Sometimes covers are cop outs, I agree. But other times it's interpreting a song in a different way. It really depends on the artist. Remakes on the other hand, that's a cop out.

  • I agree with that

  • Personally some of my favorite songs are covers.

This cover also isn't as keyboard heavy (pretty sure there isn't any keyboards in the cover), it's also in a different key.

I'm a huge magnetic fields fan, but I'm actually starting to think this cover is a tad bit better, it sounds more organic.

Charm of the Highway Strip is probably my least favorite MF album, expect maybe Distortion, but to each their own.

  • I personally think the original was a lot better. I never really liked this cover. I guess it really depends on how much you can stand the synthesizer heavy sound on the original one. Merritt is a genius song writer, but the Arcade Fire are better musicians IMHO.

  • @Bebuchadnezzar Hehe...they are great performers, i hate to say it, but the AF's version of this song is tremendous and powerful.

  • @Bebuchadnezzar Better than the original? Oh dear.

  • @JohnnyMarr85 Thank you.

  • @Bebuchadnezzar I agreeeeeee !!!

  • @Bebuchadnezzar I agree that this is an wonderfully done cover, one of the best I've ever heard, but it doesn't approach the Magnetic Fields' original rendition. Please don't suggest it does.

  • Descubrí este video por casualidad y debo decir que es una excelente y emocionante versión de lo que hizo Magnetic Fields en su momento.

    Aquí se habla español.

  • si. puerta

  • i have this version on a cd. AWESOME!!!

  • wow , this was amazing !

    Merrit is a genius..

  • One of the best covers EVER, gah. *awed*

  • very nice, thanks!
