When the scriptures are studied that way you understand them the way they are and not what you want them to be. Anyone can go looking for something in the scriptures and twist and contort them to say it. This is what universalism is, a twisting and contorting of the word. Universalism CANNOT be found by studying verse by verse, chapter by chapter.
@gtrjunky I've been a Christian all my life, and I still struggle with the concept of death. I have an even harder time wondering about the idea of the "elect" as well as the authoritativeness of the Bible. I suppose I believe that some people go to "heaven" and some go to "hell," but I don't think that everyone that is under the umbrella of Christianity will go to "heaven" and vice versa. I don't think there is a set of actions that need to be performed in order to become one of the "elect."
@RangiandPapa I agree. There's nothing we can do to earn salvation, it's a free gift. There are alot of things that are very hard to deal with about God but we need to trust that whatever He does it's going to be true and right even if we can't see the reasons now.
