  • Thanks for the laugh :) Made my night, LOL!

  • I agree that breakaway tire's should be used. But I also agree that the dog made a fault (jumped a bit to early). But do you really think the dog is hurt after this? I've seen dogs getting hit by horses and walking away without a scratch. Ofcourse it's not nice to see your dog getting hit by a horse or seeing your dog hitting the tire with his stomach, but I think the dog will jump trough the tire with the same enthousiasm as before.

  • I agree that breakaway tires should be used, only because we should, at all times, be cognizant of our dogs' safety. However, that being said, the dog clearly did not jump properly, which indicates to me an owner who has let them get away with not jumping properly in the past. Safety is a two-way obligation between both owners AND organizations - we teach them to run safely, and they minimize the risk in the event of an accident. Both ends failed here.

  • Wtf? All sports have the risk of injury. Don't start blaming people for acciedents. I can already imagine how much y'all whine when y'all fall off a skateboard.

  • Let's blame the whole system, agility should not be about speed but accuracy-that's the way Bud Kramer started it, but we always have to be so darn competitive, can't we just have fun!!

  • is he ok?

  • Geez, I've never got this. When I watch cat videos and the cat gets hurt everyone in the comments laugh and if they take it seriously they are called "stupid peta tree humpers". But when a dog gets hurt everyone gets all indignant and over sensitive. Dog are awesome pets but in spite of that don't treat kittehz any less. Nonetheless, treat all animals with equal respect. On a side note, was the sweetheart okay? That looked incredibly painful.

  • I hope he is okay?He wined pretty loud..

  • The reason why AKC doesn't make the Tires breakable is because this thing is not common, and they would break at every agility trial when it is not needed.

  • that's such a great dog though. even the trained agility dogs sometimes freak out when this happens and he was so calm. he just took a long spot and got hooked up :( poor pup

  • lol you either can do it or you cant. cut and dry.

  • Poor dog! Hope he/she's ok! :( I agree a breakaway tire could have prevented the pain the dog must have felt, but the dog shouldn't win the competition as some have sugested - he/she came at it on the wrong stride and took of long (excuse my horse terminology, but the same thing applies) and even if the tire was breakaway, would not have made it through (pause and see how far she took off from!). She still would have still hit the tire, it just would have broken with the momentum.

  • is the poor dog okay. i am so sorry. i believe in breakable tires

  • You see in the slow motion that the dog did not take off and extend properly as if performing the tire. Unfortunate yes but why rush to blame an organization?

  • @pmccservices why blame the dog?

  • All it did was scare the dog. Dogs are tough animals. AKC should keep the tire the way it is.

  • THAT WAS SOOO SAD! the AKC should make breakaway tires

  • Hello! Break away tires!

  • Oh wow...poor baby...I hope she/he is ok now. Ouch...looks like that could have broken a rib or more. As soon as I heard the dog's yelp, I winced. So sorry that happened...wow.

  • AAC we have break away tires we can have either or but all clubs use break aways and only the dogs head has to go through the tire they can break it as long as there head goes through and not get faulted

  • better they make a tire that falls off when the dog hit it.

  • the ACK needs to pay medical bills from dog owners till they have breakaaway tires.

  • They should of had those tires which go apart if you put too much force on it...

    Poor dog :S

  • IF people really look closer to the clip, you can all se that they do not babying the dog at all. The woman who runs to check on the dog, is putting her left hand around him to make sure he`s standing still, and her right hand on the side of the dogs stomach, to check the ribs. And not only was it painful for the dog, the breath was taken from him when he hit the tires. The dog could also have been screaming because he got scared and shokked. But most likely it was painful.

  • HOLY shit... Is this dog okay!? I saw many other tire crashes today but I didn't hear a dog yelp at all! I hope the dog is okay =(

  • When the safety of a dog is compromised in an effort to save money, the agility club should be blamed. There are a variety of break-a-way tires available encourage your club to use them! I'm so sorry your dog got hurt- is she okay? I wrote a post inspired by this incident here

  • My goodness. That could have broken the dog's ribs or ruptured its internal organs. I hope the dog is okay...

  • poor dog..probably got the wind knocked out of him! BREAKAWAY TIRES! Thank God he\she was ok!

  • The dog was obviously hurt, you jackass. I don't know about anyone else, but when my dog is hurt doing something, ESPECIALLY when he is hurt doing something that I asked him to do (like an agility obstacle), damn straight I rush over there, and the last thing on my mind tends to be, "I wonder if I'm babying him too much?"

I watch clips like this, and I honestly wonder if it's going to take the death of a dog before the rest of the clubs use the safe tires. A dog is going to land on his neck.

  • lol , the dog flew

  • poor dog.. clearly that was a very painful hit.. dogs don't usually yelp unless something must be very painful, i know that first hand because my dog has chipped a good inch off of her canine and didn't yelp.. dogs tolerate pain much better than us but when something REALLY hurts, they will yelp. I agree that it's the AKC's fault, but again if you watch, the dog jumped a little early and a little too low, but agree heir fault and should use collapsebles.

  • Ouchie :( Poor doggie :(

  • ya lol i don't get it either

  • But it didn't look like they were babying it too much. And if they're praising him then that's good because he did try to jump it.

  • im kayse4agility with my other account and poor thing, but that is so funny

  • They came to him because he had an injury. ;) They were making sure the poor guy was okay, it looks like he broke his leg. D:

  • Not being rude but:

Well if you were to get stuck on a tire you'd want people to come help you. That had to ingure the dog's stomach. And babying him won't teach him that the tire is bad. AKC should be blamed not the dog. The dog did no such thing he only tried to run the course, but that's why you have breakaways. I am just saying I highly disagree with what you say.

  • Damn that is terrible.

ACK should have breakaway tires, because anything like this could happen.

They better have named this girl winner, AKC is to be blamed.

  • @TropicalWestie : i agree with you.. even though your post is old but you are right.. and sad part is some dogs *can* die from a very serious hit like this. Sounds dramatic but it's true.

  • @TropicalWestie Hello,i see this Video first Time. I came From Germany and i Do Agility too. Can you tell me,were i became this Tires???

  • This makes me angry. AKC SHOULD have breakaway tires. Ive seen many crashes and its sad and endangering our dogs. I dont have a break away tunnel, but if mine were to crash the jump (which is light) would go with them. Shame on AKC

  • I can assure you that he was fine and never once hesitated at the tire after that accident. He lived to run agility and ran with abandon! Unfortunately I lost Jazz suddenly 2 months later to hemangiosarcoma. I miss him terribly.

  • so sorry

  • omg hope that dog was alright!

gonna have massive trouble getting that dog back through the hoop im guessing!

  • Did you hear that dog! OMG!

  • omg that looked like it hurt ,bad

  • oh my godness i nearly cryed!!!!!!did u hear that dog? poor thing.

  • Oh wow! I'm SO with you on the break away tire.....if it can prevent even ONE injury, it's well worth it.

  • I was there - it was really scary. Cheetah had one too at a USDAA trail. They are trying to work on a break away tire. I will up load that clip as well. We should give them all of the information/ammo we can.

  • I will definately write my opinion on this to AKC and USDAA, that is too scary and I am so glad Jazz is ok, but that shouldnt happen
