  • my ends are always breakin off. Do you recommend small twists or larger twist?

  • @Diamonddusted68 Size really depends on the length of your hair. If you have shorter hair, you will need smaller twists. If your hair is longer, try not to do super tiny twists because taking them down may cause some damage. If you have chronic breakage going on, you may need to evaluate how you are manipulating your hair. Wearing it out often, sleeping without a scarf, not keeping it moisturized, rubbing against clothing, constant heat styling, all those things can contribute to breakage.

  • I personally didn't feel that she was being mean, belittling, or condescending. I found it to be a little humorous though. I understand that newbies may not always know exactly what they want to say/ask someone else so maybe her approach could have been different. But, to just say she was Rude. Come on. Wasn't that deep. Very Informative and I feel where she is coming from.Very Informative. Better worded questions get the best answers. Clarity is all they are asking for to better help others.♥

  • i am trying to figure out did u make that scarf or buy it , if so where. great vid!!!!

  • @tsnell80 Thanks! I made this and sell them at sumkindawndrfuldotetsydotcom

  • It has been a while since I have seen your vids and I have missed them. This was a great response to the question that was asked. Also, I love your cowl too. I also have an etsy site and a few cowls, but my mainstay is "Small Dog Sweaters."

Can't wait for your next vid... Keep posting and I'll definitely keep watching.

  • Are we slaves to our hair? *faints*

  • Great video! Just a tip to share, when wearing the crochet beanies I line them with a sating similar color satin bonnet. It's allowed me to wear plaits (to retain legth) while looking stylish. LOL

  • Perfect answer

  • What products do you use?

  • Although informative, this video was pretty condescending. Try not to insult or patronize your viewers when giving advice. Please and Thank you :)

  • @Tre08babe012 Lol I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought that. She speaks the truth, but she's kinda mean about it XD. Some people, especially those new to being natural, don't know much about good hair care regimens. They think you're doing something to "make" the hair grow because they see your hair getting longer, faster. Its an honest mistake that everyone makes when first learning to care for their hair. But I guess when you get the same question time and time again, it can be annoying.

  • @SichanKitty Definitely. Thinking you can somehow "make" your hair grow is an honest mistake a lot of newbies make when first starting their hair journey's. There is no reason to belittle the viewer's question. We all have a common goal, Healthy Hair. I thought the video was a bit rude. My mother always said, There are no stupid questions, its only stupid if you dont ask :) But hey to eaches own. Everybody gives advice differently. I would just caution @sumkindawndrful to be a little nicer :D

  • It was kind of hard to watch this becomes your tone comes across as condescending. People do not all have the same knowledge base. Just ask yourself what tone you would want someone to use when you ask something you are not knowledgeable about. I'm sure you have asked questions that seem common sense to others but hopefully they didn't answer you like you were Booboo the Clown.

  • @iamsillywarm Sorry my sarcasm and dry humor made you feel like, lol, I can't even bring myself to type what you did! I'm sure there are plenty of straight forward folks on youtube who provide real, direct, honest answers without making you feel so awful.

  • "It just happens" and "I will tell you. I get out of bed, stand on my head and let gravity...". On the floor, laughing my butt off. Love it and keep speaking knowledge. People ask me the same question and I will make sure to answer correctly...stand on my head and let gravity do its thang!!! Waving "hi".

  • @zoenicole2000 Hey!! LOL, I read someone's blog who suggested yoga headstands seriously once..... ah my....

  • what u put in your body as a lot to do with hair growth as well.

  • great advice as always Ria!! love the scarf. x

  • @louloumatou Thanks! I love it sooo much, it is super comfortable!

  • Your nails are adorable! *I'm way off topic but I had to say that* lol

  • @ivoluv3 LOL! Thanks! I painted them that way because I am comparing the wear of different brands.

  • Agreed.

  • thanks for sharing dear...

  • well i have locs and they are about 6 or 7 inches long and i had them for about 1 year and 5 months, idk if thats normal because i grew my hair for about two years before locing. i do sports and drink plenty of water. do you know why my hair is growing slow? i retwist monthly and hardly braid/tye my hair down. pleaseeeeeeeee help!!!

  • @cea44 If your hair was long before loc'ing, it shrinks first while it gets completely loc'd. Your hair is still growing as I'm sure you noticed by how often you have to twist. After the 2 year mark, you're gonna start noticing growth outta nowhere, watch!

  • @SumKindaWndrful k thanks!!! im looking forward to that!

  • Agreed! Nice scarf

  • protective styles as well as being gentle with your hair goes a long way!!!

  • I like this video ..but me and my friend was just talking about this she wears her hair in loose cornrows and or twists, moisturizes every nite ties a silk scarf on it and washes every week, uses coconut oil and Shea butter as sealer. And her hair is the same length. Poor chile

  • @polifonyann Maybe she should start keeping a photo journal in addition to documenting watch she does to her hair. Doing so can help her pinpoint what is going on.

  • @SumKindaWndrful That's great advice! Because I had definitely said mine wasn't growing! But I looked at some old photos on fotki and sure enough it has grown a LOT since I cut it.

  • @polifonyann it could be her diet. I know for me having low iron causes my hair to thin and shed but when i began my iron pills i retained length.

  • While I agree with your advice on retaining length I wanted to add that we do things that can halt or hinder hair growth. Nutrition, disease, medication and exercise all affect hair growth. You can improve hair growth by living a healthy lifestyle i.e drinking water, exercising taking care of conditions that may hinder hair growth. Therefore your comment about hair growth just happening is not entirely correct.

  • @amyy164 riiiiigght, but I already addressed that in my Grow long hair fast! video. Besides, people who eat nothing but cheetos, fried chicken and drink koolaid and wine coolers still experience hair growth.

  • @SumKindaWndrful I know that but the video title should be how to preserve length which has nothing to do with hair growth.

  • @amyy164 The video title is what it is based on the question that gets posed to me, time and time again. The content is exactly the response I have to that question. People don't ask me how can I retain length, they ask how do I get my hair to grow.

  • @amyy164 While the things you mentioned may hinder hair growth from time to time, in my experiences w/ women who claim that their hair does not grow, it's usually been b/c they don't take care of their hair. So the real problem, in most cases, is that the length is not being retained, not that the hair isn't growing. I get this question from women all the time, usually relaxed women. & I say to them that if they're continuing to get a relaxer every few weeks, it's because their hair is growing.

  • @CaraBear12 I agree with the retaining length comments. I'm just saying that has nothing to do with hair growth.

  • @amyy164 No, her comment IS entirely correct, hair growth DOES just happen. People may do things that makes that process slower but the process is still happening (assuming you don't actually have alopecia or you haven't just undergone chemotherapy that causes alopecia)

  • @TheSupasweet I understand that hair growth happens but you can do things to hinder or increase hair growth which has nothing to do with retaining length.

  • Does it matter if I have box braids or twists when doing a protective style? I recently started using twist 4 months ago because they're way more easer to put in and take out. Because some of them constantly keeps untwisting and I have to redo them 7 times a day I went back to box braids. Does it matter or not?

  • I too have a twa...and wetting my hair everyday during the winter is not going to cut it so could I retain length by doing a quick weave maybe? or any other suggestions you have would be GREATLY appreciated :)

  • Let them know sistah!!

  • LMAOOO@ Standing on my head every morning!! hahaha! Awesome sarcasm!;)

  • @MzAbbyJ lol right I love it

  • You had me rollin'. I use one of those satin covers (not bonnet) under my beanies or hats. I'll tie my hair with a satin sash under crochet head bands and any other headbands that have the potential to grab my hair or dry it out. You're right. It's all about what you're doing with the hair on your head. Some of us have unrealistic expectations. That's the number one problem I have with extensions, wigs, and hair pieces. They give us instant gratification. Hair growth doesn't happen over night.

  • i absolutely agree with you i couldnt have said it any better

  • you and your oh-so warm-looking scarves! :-)

    Great response!

  • how do I retain length if I have a twa?

  • @cheeseysmilez16 If you have a twa, your ends are too young to be weathered so you don't have to worry about it on that end. Keep is moisturized (try the leave-in/oil/cream method) and wrap it up in a satin scarf or bonnet each night. Stay away from extensions and wigs and keep a satin lining between your hair and anyway hats or cotton scarves.

  • Great info!

  • @CurlyCeeCee Thanks!!!!
