OMG, what I wouldn't give just to shake this man's hand! He is one of the true musical geniuses of our time. I love him. I love his music. Is the DVD you uploaded this from available commercially?
Leon just breaks your heart wide open. Listening to this is like an exquisite pain that knocks you out and then keeps you playing it again and again.
I've seen Leon on stage so drunk he could hardly stand ... but his talent is undeniable.... this is one of the best lonely/heart-broken songs you'll hear ... I wish he would have sung the second verse too.
I too saw Leon in Lafayette La. in the 70's, and Jacksonville Fl. have loved him for years..I'm really enjoying these video's on youtube! TY Youtube peoples!
My Cricket is my favorite Leon Russell song. I saw him at the IU Auditorium in the mid 70's and was ready to run away with him. Congrats on the hall of fame buddy you deserved that and more. Best wishes and prayers
I am 53 years young and Leon was my very first concert when I was 15 in the early 1970's. I saw him at Anaheim Convention Center in Orange County, California when the parking was 75 cents! I still have the stub in my scrap book! I'll never forget how amazing he was and still is! Way to go Leon! We love you!
I have LOVED Leon since I was a little girl and to see him finally getting some long overdue recognition, sure does make me happy. I just hope those people at the RRHF realize all he has done and get him in there!!!!!
If you've not heard Connie Cato's cut of this beautiful Leon Russell song, it's a must that you find it and give it a spin. Connie recorded an absolute gorgeous version of "My Cricket" for her second Capitol album entitled "Connie Cato - Good Hearted Woman" ST-11387 released in 1975. Austin Wiser - Contributor
Hmmm, I'd say the album version with more jazz feel is heavier, emptier, sadder than this country flavored one. Due respect to WN, just remember the beauty of the original.
i love "me and baby jane" and Masquerade from the Carney album. He also sings Song for You better than anyone! Love you forever Leon! Please come back to Georgia!
He saved Joe Cocker's career, brought the house down at the Concert for Bangladesh, made gospel and bluegrass cool again, and has played nearly every instrument including guitar, bass, piano, organ, harpsichord, french horn, flute.. If Leon is ignored again by the RRHoF again and some crotch-grabbing grunt-rapper gets voted in, the whole HoF thing is a disgrace!!!
@lopingbuzzard the rrhof is a joke any way you look at it. they overlook somma the best songwriters, singers and bands of the last century in favor of people who aint contributed nothin to the music industry but alot of noise. leon russell and delaney bramlett deserve to be in there way ahead of blondie and madonna!! just my 2 cent worth.,
He had the first (custom built) 48-track studio in the world. It was his idea to have people sign Willie's famous guitar, Trigger, and he was the FIRST to sign it.
He was the biggest live act in the world in 1973! He refused to be categorized, excelling in rock, gospel, country, blues, jazz... He is a pioneer in songwriting, producing, engineering, studio building, record engineering, and anything else associated with music.
It's an absolute crime that people like Madonna, Grandmaster Flash, and Prince are in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame while the Master of Space and Time, Leon Russell, is not. Good grief, look at his history! He's worked with and influenced half the rock artists who ever existed!
hey, i used to have this album and one with leon & mark beno ? beano? the song i'd like to hear again was about a 'nam vet and his german shepheard coming down the hall -- anyone know the song or the name of the record?
I couldn't agree more! I am a HUGE Leon fan, and people do not realize how much Leon has done for the music industry! He needs to be inducted into the RRHOF!!!
Thank you david. you would think debs4mysweetbaby would've checked the facts before spouting off such ignorance. a real fan of Leon's wouldn't have made a comment like that. Oh well, some people can't think first.
His Hank Wilson album was called "Hank Wilson's Back". The album, cover photo, was of him...from the back. You could see a pack of smokes stickin out his back pocket. It was funny lookin.
another clip from willie's and leon's recording session in 1979. they recorded hundreds of songs and only a couple of them have been released (not necessarily the good ones). I wonder if they are gonna release some of this stuff in the future.
Actually when Leon goes Country his Alter Ego name is Hank Wison may have a Jr.on the end , I can't remember but the album was called " Hank Wilson is Back " !Just googled it ,no Jr.
He made the RRHOF!!! 2011
