You are missing the point. In 1990 the average corvette was turning 225 horses. There were a handful of cars worldwide that could churn out nearly 400 HP. The engineering feat that Chevrolet pulled off is second to none. How fast was your computer in 1990. To compare that car to a new ZR1 is like comparing an AT80286 computer to a new Hex core Pentium. Plus the price of the ZR1 was nearly equal to that of a new house then. Amazing car for it's era.
the Zr1 was INCREDIBLE technology for the late 80s.. Using mercury marine and lotus with the build of the engine.. i would hate to have to replace one of those motors, lol, probably a bit pricey,, but i would LOVE to own one of these amazing machines of our time..... if it were me, the old Zr1 would stay stock in my garage, and driven for pleasure, and the Z06 would have twin turbos, and would be Eatin Ferraris and shittin lamborghinis

@deadfaithful I know right. People don't research any of these LS series engines they just look at displacement and start talk'n. A dressed LS7 actually weighs less than fords new Tivct 5.0 haha. The LS3 weighs about 30/40lbs less than the 5.0. I love pushrod technology. The LS engine was in fact way way ahead of its time when they came out in mid 90's. Tried and true.

375 Horsepower to be exact, at least stock. Comparable in speed to a LS2 Corvette. I used to own one, I loved it though, complete sleeper. And the top end on that thing is sick. 100+ is a religious experience.

Yeah didnt the 96 have 330 hp, and also the only reason im so partial to the 91-93 was my parents friends had em when i was like 4 and i would ride with em if i was lucky it was pretty cool to see there white 91 and green 93 parked in front and behind my dads 91 blue z28 with the vette package on our street but that was like 12-14 years ago.
yea the 96's had 330..my dad had a torch red 95 for 105000 milees and when the towtruck came to take it to the person who bought it the engine desintegrated while pulling up and on to the towtrucks ramp. i loved that car

When i was 4 my parents friends had 2 c4s 1 was a white 91 and the other a green 93,and i started a c4 in the showroon at the chevy dealer my dad worked at when i was 4. So 14 years later i still love these cars im hopin to have enough money to get a 91-93 c4 next fall. So the zo6 is faster so what c6 vettes arent as badass as c4s.C4s have the flip up headlights the electronic speedometers and corvette spelled on the steering wheel in the 91-93. c6s are dull.

Dude my friend has a 1996 Corvette LT4. He's reaced a couple of C5 Z06's both on the road and at the drag strip, and guess what, dead even everytime. The LT4 is comparable to the C5Z06. And the LT5 is above the C5 Z06 but below the C6 Z06. Although it will run at it's top speed longer than the C6 Z06 will. You can go look at the records for yourself. But all that aside. All corvettes are awesome and if you truly love corvettes than you appreciate every corvette and don't bash on any of them.

My friend has a 96 red on red collector's edition LT4 and he is dead even whenever he races a C5 Z06. The only time either car pulls on the other is when either of them shifts, and then when the other person shifts the other guy catches right back up. And the ZR1's were rated at 405hp but people that have them dynoed end up getting about 465hp out of them.
you sure about that? go look up dyno charts on some of them. There are plenty of them that were underrated. Just like the Mach1 mustang from 03-04, they were rated at 305hp but they really made about 320hp, and the 03-04 cobras were rated at 390hp but really made about 430hp. Yea, cause there is no such thing as a car that was underrated in hp from the factory, do yourself a favor and pull your head out of your ass.

I'm just going by riding with my friend in his 96 LT4, he's raced many of them and they were dead even and they went all the way up to 160mph. That's all I'm saying, cause I don't go by factory quoted times because if you're a good driver you can easily beat the factory quoted times. LIke my friend had a 91 Eclipse GS that ran a 14.9sec 1/4. From the factory they didn't run that fast, but he has the time slip to prove that he did it. So that's why factory quoted times are not always trustworthy.
Hey guess what my friends dad has an 03 Mustang GT convertible that has a Mach 1 engine in it from the factory. They made that mistake so why is it so hard to believe that they underrated the power of the ZR1? Depending on the year of the ZR1 you have, they have anywhere from 405-465whp. Just like the 03-04 Cobra's really had about 430hp. Get over yourslef and realize that car manufacturers can and do make mistakes.

Incredibly fast.I ve had a 1978 trans am with a 454 and nitrous and can safely say my z06 would kill it.Let me say that the c6 z 06 is a very impressive car .

Tim King's V6 Firebird makes 810WHP and runs 8's using a 3800 Buick V6. Better hope that LT1 doesn't run into a modified 3800 f-body.

How can u rip on c4s the inside is so much cooler than the c5 and there louder and the c6 doesnt have the lights and there inside is even more dull than the c5. Also c5s werent much faster than c4s kid i knew had an 01 z28 with intake and exhaust not stock and he said he beat stock c5s. the c4 zrl is faster and way more ahead of its time than any c5 was and the c4 probably with exhaust and intake could run with or beat a c5

A 2001 Z06 is a very close competitor for a ZR-1, where as the '02-04 Z06 models begin to spread the difference wider. Nonetheless, '02-04 Z06's are quicker than the King of the hill.

Yes but the ZR-1 badge will soon be re-established and will once again be the fastest corvette again. The C4 ZR-1 was and still is one of the top fastest vette's there ever was. It can still run with the new Z06. it's only maybe a second slower in the 1/4. I just love almost all vette's though.
Um dude, the LT5 can run a 11.8 in it's best yeat. That's .3 seconds of a difference. And considering that it's at best a 13 year old car that's not bad. That and go check out the records that the LT5 set back in its day that still haven't been broken. It averaged 175.8mph for 24hrs including pit stops. Not even the C6 Z06 can touch that record. Not any ZR-1.. The SS (aka) Snake skinner engine will smoke just about any C5 Z06.
As a matter of a fact for the standard ZR-1 to take a Z06 all it needs is more grip at the launch. (Nothing a good set of tires can't handle) so although there's a definite advantage on the Side of the Z06 it's not always going to win. Google zr-1 vs z06 and you will notice that when they went head to head in the ¼ mile the ZR-1 took the win.
& btw that's a 375 hp ZR-1 vs a 385 hp Z06 However when they dynode the cars the ZR-1 had the power advantage. Furthermore they concluded that to get the best of both worlds they would put the ZR-1s LT5 engine into the C5 Z06. So the question remains how would the 1994 & 1995 405 HP ZR-1s with sticky tires fair against a 405 HP Z06. My moneys on the ZR-1 down the ¼ mile .... btw corvettemagazine did the comparison.

What part of nation's fastest "stock" ZR-1 are you not getting? Stock means no engine or exhaust modifications. A Chrome polished LT-5 engine does not count. If it had polished heads that's different. This car is as stock as it needs to be. You can't penalize a guy for his choice of Wheels, tiers paint or a Disco Ball. That's just being Bias since all of that together does not equal the extra 75Hp by any stretch of the imagination.

The only year that they were in a corvette the 96. The Gran Sport, the collectors edition, and the base model with a 6spd. They ran anywhere from 12.6 to 12.8 in the 1/4. and they had anywhere from 335hp to 385 depending on trim level and model that you got. And why get all pissy and have a huge attitude? an lt4 never had 385 h.p and there are no trim level they came in a collector grand sport 96 vette and had 330 h.p it ran 13.3 seconds in the quarter no where near a c5 z06
They were advertised at 330hp but they actually got from 365hp-385hp depending on if you got the base model LT4, or the collector's edition or the Gran Sport. My friend has the plate on his right by the shifter that says 330hp, but he took his serial number from his engine and it is actually 385hp. Get that through your head.

Why is everyone here ripping on the old ZR1 it still is a Vette if it wasnt for its sucess the new ZR1 wouldnt exist.
I really hope the new C7 has a DOHC v8 like GM noted was possible.

@deadfaithful I know right. People don't research any of these LS series engines they just look at displacement and start talk'n. A dressed LS7 actually weighs less than fords new Tivct 5.0 haha. The LS3 weighs about 30/40lbs less than the 5.0. I love pushrod technology. The LS engine was in fact way way ahead of its time when they came out in mid 90's. Tried and true.

When i was 4 my parents friends had 2 c4s 1 was a white 91 and the other a green 93,and i started a c4 in the showroon at the chevy dealer my dad worked at when i was 4. So 14 years later i still love these cars im hopin to have enough money to get a 91-93 c4 next fall. So the zo6 is faster so what c6 vettes arent as badass as c4s.C4s have the flip up headlights the electronic speedometers and corvette spelled on the steering wheel in the 91-93. c6s are dull.

Dude my friend has a 1996 Corvette LT4. He's reaced a couple of C5 Z06's both on the road and at the drag strip, and guess what, dead even everytime. The LT4 is comparable to the C5Z06. And the LT5 is above the C5 Z06 but below the C6 Z06. Although it will run at it's top speed longer than the C6 Z06 will. You can go look at the records for yourself. But all that aside. All corvettes are awesome and if you truly love corvettes than you appreciate every corvette and don't bash on any of them.

Too bad you spelled Bullshit with an N. Anyways. Look, the C4 LT4 and C5 Z06 is a driver's race. They are dead even. My friend has a 96 red on red collector's edition LT4 and he is dead even whenever he races a C5 Z06. The only time either car pulls on the other is when either of them shifts, and then when the other person shifts the other guy catches right back up. And the ZR1's were rated at 405hp but people that have them dynoed end up getting about 465hp out of them.

you sure about that? go look up dyno charts on some of them. There are plenty of them that were underrated. Just like the Mach1 mustang from 03-04, they were rated at 305hp but they really made about 320hp, and the 03-04 cobras were rated at 390hp but really made about 430hp. Yea, cause there is no such thing as a car that was underrated in hp from the factory, do yourself a favor and pull your head out of your ass.

I'm just going by riding with my friend in his 96 LT4, he's raced many of them and they were dead even and they went all the way up to 160mph. That's all I'm saying, cause I don't go by factory quoted times because if you're a good driver you can easily beat the factory quoted times. LIke my friend had a 91 Eclipse GS that ran a 14.9sec 1/4. From the factory they didn't run that fast, but he has the time slip to prove that he did it. So that's why factory quoted times are not always trustworthy.

Hey guess what my friends dad has an 03 Mustang GT convertible that has a Mach 1 engine in it from the factory. They made that mistake so why is it so hard to believe that they underrated the power of the ZR1? Depending on the year of the ZR1 you have, they have anywhere from 405-465whp. Just like the 03-04 Cobra's really had about 430hp. Get over yourslef and realize that car manufacturers can and do make mistakes.

Tim King's V6 Firebird makes 810WHP and runs 8's using a 3800 Buick V6. Better hope that LT1 doesn't run into a modified 3800 f-body.

ZR-1's typically range in the 13.2-12.9 range in bone-stock trim. Some skilled drivers have gotten them as quick the mid 12's - low 13's/high 12's are the norm. A 2001 Z06 is a very close competitor for a ZR-1, where as the '02-04 Z06 models begin to spread the difference wider. Nonetheless, '02-04 Z06's are quicker than the King of the hill.

Yes but the ZR-1 badge will soon be re-established and will once again be the fastest corvette again. The C4 ZR-1 was and still is one of the top fastest vette's there ever was. It can still run with the new Z06. it's only maybe a second slower in the 1/4. I just love almost all vette's though.

Um dude, the LT5 can run a 11.8 in it's best yeat. That's .3 seconds of a difference. And considering that it's at best a 13 year old car that's not bad. That and go check out the records that the LT5 set back in its day that still haven't been broken. It averaged 175.8mph for 24hrs including pit stops. Not even the C6 Z06 can touch that record. And look there's no reason to get all bent out of shape. They are both amazing corvettes, and that's all I was trying to say. So calm down.

No, it would have made no difference because we have an intake, exhaust and chip on the zr1 and its pushin just as much if not more power than the 93/95 but i havnt raced a c5z yet, but i would def like to, just to see how they compare.

I doubt a 93/95 ZR1 would have made any difference against a C6Z. Im curious to see a C5Z and a ZR1 go at it though.

c5 z06 will kill any zr1. c5 z06 runs low 12s at 116 mph ,zr1 low 13 s at 112 mph.

Not any ZR-1.. The SS (aka) Snake skinner engine will smoke just about any C5 Z06.
As a matter of a fact for the standard ZR-1 to take a Z06 all it needs is more grip at the launch. (Nothing a good set of tires can't handle) so although there's a definite advantage on the Side of the Z06 it's not always going to win. Google zr-1 vs z06 and you will notice that when they went head to head in the ¼ mile the ZR-1 took the win.

& btw that's a 375 hp ZR-1 vs a 385 hp Z06 However when they dynode the cars the ZR-1 had the power advantage. Furthermore they concluded that to get the best of both worlds they would put the ZR-1s LT5 engine into the C5 Z06. So the question remains how would the 1994 & 1995 405 HP ZR-1s with sticky tires fair against a 405 HP Z06. My moneys on the ZR-1 down the ¼ mile .... btw corvettemagazine did the comparison.

Do a search on youtube for "ZR-1 190 mph" and watch as a C5 Z06 gets owned by two ZR-1s.

first of aall zr1 maximum speed is 180 mph,on the quarter mile a c5 z06 goes 12.2 at 116 vs 13.2 at 112 for a zr1,i ve got friends with both cars and we go to the track very often ,top speed is close other than that z06 c5 ruins the zr1.

z06 c 5 version will destroy a zr1 1990 to 1995 what are you saying we have raced them many times even on drag radials.A c5 z06 on sticky tires can go high 11s on the quarter ,and 12.2 on stock rubber zr1 is a 13.2 car there is no comparison.

What part of nation's fastest "stock" ZR-1 are you not getting? Stock means no engine or exhaust modifications. A Chrome polished LT-5 engine does not count. If it had polished heads that's different. This car is as stock as it needs to be. You can't penalize a guy for his choice of Wheels, tiers paint or a Disco Ball. That's just being Bias since all of that together does not equal the extra 75Hp by any stretch of the imagination.

Just so you understand in this case you could probably nab a very low 12. I can also show you plenty of other documented examples of bone stock ZR-1's running mid 12's too and a very well documented example of one hitting 191mph. Look let me nip this in the ass now. I'm a Vette owner myself & member a of a corvette club so not only have I seen plenty of bone stockers run low 13's & 12's I have ran a bone stock 91 ZR-1 to 12.64 myself.

All I'm trying to tell you is that not all cars are created equal and you continue to say no stock ZR-1 can beat a Z06. I showed you a basically stock one that I'm sure had he change his tires back to its originals It would continue to take Some Z06 down and another instance were a slightly modified ZR-1 beat a slightly modified C5 Z06. So I proved my point with spades. The simple fact is, It happens.

zr1 has the edge only at top speed we ve tried them hundreds of times even switching drivers ,z06 much more mph on the quarter mile ,only runs out of gearing at top speed

or at the best 11.9 for 02 + Z06, 12.6 for 93+ZR1. Highway is more evenly matched with the ZR1 eventually pulling.

Dude the LT-4 runs mid 12's in the 1/4, the LT-5 ZR1 can run break 12 seconds. I don't know where you get your info but you might want to check it. The C5 Z06 can BARELY beat a C4 LT-4. It can't even hang with a ZR-1 man.

The only year that they were in a corvette the 96. The Gran Sport, the collectors edition, and the base model with a 6spd. They ran anywhere from 12.6 to 12.8 in the 1/4. and they had anywhere from 335hp to 385 depending on trim level and model that you got. And why get all pissy and have a huge attitude? I'm simply stating facts there is no reason to get all bent out of shape. Why don't we try discussing this like adults?

an lt4 never had 385 h.p and there are no trim level they came in a collector grand sport 96 vette and had 330 h.p it ran 13.3 seconds in the quarter no where near a c5 z06

They were advertised at 330hp but they actually got from 365hp-385hp depending on if you got the base model LT4, or the collector's edition or the Gran Sport. My friend has the plate on his right by the shifter that says 330hp, but he took his serial number from his engine and it is actually 385hp. Get that through your head.

And also it's not hard to believe that the ZR1 has 465whp considering it has 24hour speed records that not even the new Z06 can compete with. In 24hours around an oval race track it averaged a speed of 175mph including re-fueling and driver changes. And yes the LT4 engines varied in hp depending on the year as well. his is a 1996 collector's edition with 385hp. it's ok that you don't believe me, I don't care. I know my facts and it's your choice to believe me or not.

the zr1 is a 1990 and the z06 is a 2007. the z06 has significantly more power, i still prefer to drive the zr1 because it feels more like a muscle car and the engine sounds a lot more powerful
