The golden age of CoD was 2003-2007 (aside from CoD3, i call that stale milk).
Any CoD 2008+ only new(b)gen gamers enjoy....not hating but if ya JUST started playing online this gen ya dont have much FPS history behind ya.
The fact is they just dont make shooters like they used to, we need a gamer changer, another FPS to revolutionize the genre....just like how DOOM, Quake, Half-Life, Unreal Tournament etc etc did.

I usually hate CoD games, but for some reason I really like this one. I think the multiplayer maps could be better, but the survival mode is soooooo much fun. I don't have any issue with the camping cuz if it makes you that angry then you're a huge pussy... No offense. It's just a game, man.
This begs the question of, "How much MW3 did you play when you said that it deserved FPS of the year?" I'm guessing not very much, as this video says that you've been worn down. COD is only good for competition, but if you want that play Forza, Halo, Mario Party, or Madden.

Finally somebody understood the situation this industry is in right now, people in my opinion need to start looking anywhere else than the average mainstream AAA titles out there, like Fear, there are tons of other games with more potential than your typical CoD for ex., and with this we might hope to see a decrease in sales for the next iterations of that ass excuse of a game.
My friend who is a huge CoD fanboy posted about a month ago on Facebook that he was done with MW3 and is going back to MW2. He said he didn't like MW3 at all. I rented MW3 and played one match online and just said the heck with the game. I didn't even finish the single player campaign. It was just to much of the same but hey that is what makes the game sell.
It saddens me how much these modern FPS games (Battlefield, COD, Killzone, Halo) have strayed from games that took skill. Remember maps that weren't corridors with signs everywhere? Remember exploring for secrets? Remember when 'people have no health' wasn't a cop-out for balance? Remember when victory was determined by aim, skills and practice instead of who saw who first?
I played Timesplitters last month after a long hiatus. The speed was just so intense compared to this crap.
i left work, on break at midnight to pic up MW3 at Walmart, day one. i played it for two days, and then gave it to my kids friend who didn't have it.i major league disappointed from the game almost from the jump. too many hiding spots in the maps as well a multi choke points in map. COD 4, Socom 1 and 2 will always be the best. true lightning in a bottle.
its also a sad state that games like Doom are far less linear than the hand holding rail shooters that pass for fps' these days. how many more fps' must i play where gameplay amounts to following an npc tour guide while he shrieks "over here! follow me!" at me?

If you run around like a headless chicken expect to get ambushed on a regular basis, if you adapt your tactics and move unpredictably you wont get owned by a dude in a bush so often. They literally know how your playing and exactly what your doing, I don't care about kill counts or points, I always play strategically. Its more fun for me that way than some twitch response game.

I had a lot of fun playing COD 4 online. Even with martyrdom as a perk, I still feel it was the most balanced in the Modern Warfare series. No ridiculous killstreak rewards, no death streaks, and no weapon perks. I could use any weapon in that game and do well with it.
I got bored of MW2 and 3 REALLY quickly because they were/are essentially the same games. The balancing is a lot worse and there are weapons that make others obsolete. It's time for this series to go away.

In Final Fantasy Tactics, there's a job class called the Calculator which can hit every unit on the field with a magic spell regardless of position. In the PSP port, for multiplayer, the players don't get points for bringing a Calculator to a fight because it allows first turn victories with attack magic provided at least 1 of your units has protection against it's element to survive.
I wonder if they can program a game so it knows what camping is to add penalties on a camper like losing points
This is why I love Duke Nukem Forever for team multiplayer. Other than the regenerative health, it's as classic as it gets. No perks, no kill/death streaks, not even heavy weapons from the get go. Just you, your pistol to start with, and your fellow team mates to help you kick the other team's ass.
If anything, COD fucking sucks for singleplayer as well anyway. I gave up after WAW had nothing to offer for me other than one memorable sniper fight.
I find it sad that CoD comes out every 1 year and makes millions, and Halo comes out every 3 years (well there is ODST and Halo Wars but I don't know how people would count them) with a lot of features, forge/theater, in depth customization for custom game modes, and other awesome stuff but still makes way less than CoD does.
@LeeroyPinkerton I don't get that either. Not to mention, in my opinion, Halo's setting and aesthetic are much more appealing than unimaginative realistic military games like COD. Aliens, superstructures, a wide array of vehicles that are a blast to use, and the features you mentioned should make that franchise bigger than COD.

I've already sold my MW3 copy, just couldn't keep justifying playing it when it all seems the same. Not a terrible game, just feels like a MW2 update. The best time I had with the game was Spec Ops, but thank God Rainbow Six is coming back. Good video.
If Battlefield 3 wasn't so hard online i would play that a lot because its got a lot more depth to its gameplay.
I havnt played COD multiplayer since COD2 on PC (lee enfield ftw!), i dabbled in Black Ops and MW2 but its nothing special just another run and gun generic shooter series with regurgitated map designs and hardcore fanboys.
I stopped with COD when I saw the multiplayer for MW3, it didn't seem different, I wasn't going to get it day of release because I was getting Uncharted 3 instead but now I'm thinking I'll ditch it all together and put the money it would cost for MW3 to getting the PS Vita
I have problems with this game too, but the weird thing is that I have a completely different issue here. I don't like the fact that the best guns are automatic. Nothing infuriates me more than being sprayed to death by a kid that just threw every bullet in the gun at me and happened to land three of them. I think the way they should fix all the "scrubbyBS" is by having way more playlist options so people can play the way the want to. Maybe a you blow up if you don't move or something like that.

I'm so glad they did get rid of martyrdom as a regular perk that pissed me off before MW2, but Rich that unicorn perk sounded bad ass. If they put that perk in the next COD I'd just have to buy the game just to test it out LOL. Completely agree with you though another great review/rant :P.

I also have to agree with what you said about FEAR and overall game design; we've gone completely backwards. Instead of having incredibly smart AI, great single-player campaigns, and unfathomable experiences we have online passes, terrible mainstream games, low quality, and things being taken out of games and sold separately as DLC.
in my opinion the main problem with the new cods is kill streaks. they keep adding higher and more powerful kill streaks to make it seem like their making the game better when all their really doing is encouraging and rewarding camping and making comebacks impossible. Thats why cod 4 is and probably always will be my favorite cod.
@delusion74 - Even cod4 was broken. Killstreaks are the most game breaking feature ever created. The whole purpose of it is to break the game balance. Any game that features kilstreaks is a broken game. Even cod4 was broken. Cod4 killed cod IMO. Everything else was Great. Cod1, UO, 2 & 3 all had great & balanced MP.
I agree with everything you said in this rant. I myself went back to CoD today just to see if it would be fun after taking about a month break and I was as dissapointed as ever. I always feel guilty, though, because I bought the Hardened edition (CoD Elite and all) and have hardly used after the first few months after release. I am by no means a noob at the game either, I've been 4th prestige for over a month and have a 1.8 kdr

i left work, on break at midnight to pic up MW3 at Walmart, day one. i played it for two days, and then gave it to my kids friend who didn't have it.i major league disappointed from the game almost from the jump. too many hiding spots in the maps as well a multi choke points in map. COD 4, Socom 1 and 2 will always be the best. true lightning in a bottle.

I agree with you on this rant. Also its a good thing you bring up F.e.a.r. becuase that game along with Halo, Killzone etc are way advance than COD. Cod started off as a rip off of Medal of Honor, but it got so overrated its not even funny. I played MW3 and I figured that I do better playing COD 4, but sheep are sheep. If you run around like a headless chicken expect to get ambushed on a regular basis, if you adapt your tactics and move unpredictably you wont get owned by a dude in a bush so often. They literally know how your playing and exactly what your doing, I don't care about kill counts or points, I always play strategically. Its more fun for me that way than some twitch response game.

I had a lot of fun playing COD 4 online. Even with martyrdom as a perk, I still feel it was the most balanced in the Modern Warfare series. No ridiculous killstreak rewards, no death streaks, and no weapon perks. I could use any weapon in that game and do well with it.
I got bored of MW2 and 3 REALLY quickly because they were/are essentially the same games. The balancing is a lot worse and there are weapons that make others obsolete. It's time for this series to go away.

In Final Fantasy Tactics, there's a job class called the Calculator which can hit every unit on the field with a magic spell regardless of position. In the PSP port, for multiplayer, the players don't get points for bringing a Calculator to a fight because it allows first turn victories with attack magic provided at least 1 of your units has protection against it's element to survive.
I wonder if they can program a game so it knows what camping is to add penalties on a camper like losing points

This is why I love Duke Nukem Forever for team multiplayer. Other than the regenerative health, it's as classic as it gets. No perks, no kill/death streaks, not even heavy weapons from the get go. Just you, your pistol to start with, and your fellow team mates to help you kick the other team's ass.
If anything, COD fucking sucks for singleplayer as well anyway. I gave up after WAW had nothing to offer for me other than one memorable sniper fight.

I find it sad that CoD comes out every 1 year and makes millions, and Halo comes out every 3 years (well there is ODST and Halo Wars but I don't know how people would count them) with a lot of features, forge/theater, in depth customization for custom game modes, and other awesome stuff but still makes way less than CoD does.

Aliens, superstructures, a wide array of vehicles that are a blast to use, and the features you mentioned should make that franchise bigger than COD.

I havnt played COD multiplayer since COD2 on PC (lee enfield ftw!), i dabbled in Black Ops and MW2 but its nothing special just another run and gun generic shooter series with regurgitated map designs and hardcore fanboys.

I have problems with this game too, but the weird thing is that I have a completely different issue here. I don't like the fact that the best guns are automatic. Nothing infuriates me more than being sprayed to death by a kid that just threw every bullet in the gun at me and happened to land three of them. I think the way they should fix all the "scrubbyBS" is by having way more playlist options so people can play the way the want to. Maybe a you blow up if you don't move or something like that.

I also have to agree with what you said about FEAR and overall game design; we've gone completely backwards. Instead of having incredibly smart AI, great single-player campaigns, and unfathomable experiences we have online passes, terrible mainstream games, low quality, and things being taken out of games and sold separately as DLC.

in my opinion the main problem with the new cods is kill streaks. they keep adding higher and more powerful kill streaks to make it seem like their making the game better when all their really doing is encouraging and rewarding camping and making comebacks impossible. Thats why cod 4 is and probably always will be my favorite cod.

I always feel guilty, though, because I bought the Hardened edition (CoD Elite and all) and have hardly used after the first few months after release. i Disagree and I'm going to tell you why. the problem with cod is not the CAMPERS, campers have been in cod since cod 4 if you dont know how to deal with campers by now then YOU need to chance the way you play. if a guy sitting in a corner kills you once i can understand that sure it happens, but if he kills 2 3 4 times then your garbage their should be no reason why a guy in a corner, where you know where he is, keeps kill you. it shouldn't happen more than once cod=no skillJUST out think evry1

What pisses me off is this lag bullshit where i am looking at a guy with a riot shield out, he kills me from the front with a knife which is like what the hell, but on killcam they maneuver around you and you cant see it, so it is a legit kill but come on that is crap. Anyone else know what I am talking about? I mean you can barely use riot shield because other people can shoot you before you have even the most remote chance of reacting.
Cod is fun, but not worth buying year after year.
