Downloaded and watched the rest of the show. You are so right about the lack of the voltage adjusting tool with the PFC chargers, not to mention just sticking a knob on it! Worth noting that the new manuals say units shipped after Sept 09 now include the tool. I whittled a broken piece of dowel and made my own. Also, PFC 30 is about $2600, but you can add an amp gauge which brings it to $2900.
Jack, adding insult to injury...we all know Brett Favre went to Minnesota, but cheeseheads (Sebring Vangaurds) stayed at home in Green Bay, Wisconsin...
I thought I would mention a little about your video presentations. If you check out a videographer called "The Wood Whisper" you can get a few good ideas. Faster paced, less word whiskers, more purposeful videos would hold my attention better. I can't tell you the last time I sat through an entire video of yours, even though I am intensely interested, because they just don't hold my attention. I hope this helps, as I sincerely want you to succeed.
I sit through every minute of every EV related segment, sometime watch them twice, but I'm an EV fanatic. I do skip the Mini specific mechanical stuff since I'm not doing a Mini and don't really care how the exhaust system comes apart.
The pace could be picked up a bit with some tighter editing I suppose, and some dancing girls in bikinis, but as long as there is a lot of good EV specific info I'm tuning in.
I do agree that EV's shouldn't be ugly punishment cars. However the look of the Prius, and the new Honda hybrid, are derived from efficient aerodynamics, which = less battery power required, which = less money. I do think there might be some better looking aerodynamic shapes in the future, though considering the Prius sales figures it's not a big issue for many people.
I think there is a latent demand for economy and environmentally conscious consumers. But there is no way to tell how deep that runs and the Prius has been all there has been to pick from pretty much. With all manuf. announcing such vehicles, I see a BLOODBATH coming wih some very disappointing sales when that latent demand is tapped out.
That does NOT mean there is no market for electric cars. To pay a premium for electric cars, I want a NICE car. The Chevy Volt MIGHT qualify.
But an electric MINI, or a BMW, or a Lexus done right would more likely cause me to part with the ducats.
Yes, electric drive will likely lead to lighter more aerodynamic cars. The Lotus ELISE comes not only to mind, but to Tesla who ARE selling cars at a huge premium. An Elise is $48K list. A Tesla is now over $130K. And I'm told they've sold 900 of them.
I think they would do much better with a Vette at $72K and an electric Vette at $85K. It's pretty aerodynamic and it isn't ugly.
The Vette is a good candidate, but it is such a high performance vehicle as an ICE that I'm afraid an EV version would be a very expensive prospect to stay in the same arena. It's heavier than a Tesla so would take even more battery power for similar performance and range. But talking about Teslas and Vettes is a different market than a decent basic EV for the masses. To me the Volt won't qualify because it's a hybrid and you still have all the ICE stuff to deal with.
