Therein lies the reason why there is no substitute for lightness. The CSR weighs 1300# vs the GT2's 3000# !!!

Only advantage for Porsche is that Sabina is driving it. Propably nobody knows the ring better than her. If she wouldn't be driving Porsche, it would have zero chance against Caterham.
Actually I know the guy who drove the Caterham personally! He told me that he had wait for her at some parts of the track! This is not a joke or something, I really asked him about the so called "battle" and he told me the GT2 did not stand any chance to keep up. The rest of the story is that he doesn't have made as much laps on the RIng as Sabine and for the other side it's the gearbox of the GT2 that is just absolute crap. Driver is a Caterham dealer with racing experience (7cars.de)

Sabine also told it in the video. The car was not setup properly and the tv show is known for the battles which don't tell the truth.

It's a cute vid, the Porsche wins due to higher speed in straights. It would be a great car for american highways, but if you want to go fast in a straight line, may as well buy a Bentley Flying Spur, you'd be more comfy on a long trip.. I'd prefer the Caterham for fun in bends and quickness, and just overall car enjoyment.

Yeaah... So that's Nurbuhrgring... that's a rear engined car with so so handling... Nurburhgring has more corners than I can count... and the Caterham is dubbed on of the best handling cars of all time. Not only that, but this one has 260 Hp, and can accelerate from 0-62 mph in 3.1 seconds. Porsche can't do that!! At least not this one! And on this course it's seems obvious to me the caterham would win.
yeah, it does have a lot of corners but a csr only does about 150mph, even on the norderschlief that's a big disadvantage, and for this track the csr is waay to twitchy, as there are 2 manyu bumps

A road going carrera 2S would be easily beaten by a paltry 150bhp caterham. Even a sorted elise would take it round most uk circuits. A 240bhp caterham like the one here is as quick as a RACE GT3 (race, not road car). Just take a look at the times for the carrera cup on mst.

Oh, please, stop arguing about if the Porsche is better, worse, more expensive or whatever than the Super 7. Both are astonishing masterpieces, each on its own class. These cars are so different than cannot be directly compared. While 911s should be compared to Astons, Ferraris, BMWs, Jags, etc, Super 7s should be compared to Atoms, Elises and the like. And I love both 911s an Sevens, so please just enjoy the spectacle of seeing these two state of the art cars together on the legendary track.

gt2 rs it's half minute slower than radical, because of the always main rule: POWER WEIGHT RATIO RULES.

Infact in this vid it arrives very fast at the straights, even 40kmh more than caterham. But at the first turn, it disappears. The PWR rule is the concept of F1 cars and, at the end, of any real sport car. gt2 is good, but nothing more.

yep, the ring is in its own peculiar class with its long straights but on any regular circuit an R500-esque car would destroy any factory Porsche.. GT2, GT3RS, TURBO, carerra GT, 959 or otherwise. A csr will lap donnington park in around 1.12/1.13 and that is hugely quick, up there with a GT time and a factory porsche wouldn't even get near. I still want a 993 RS clubsport though !
But caterham has a little max speed. Nurburgring has some quick parts, where caterham speed is 200-220 kmh and Porsche speed is 250-300 kmh. Donnington, Belford is "slow" tracks, not so "fast " as Nurburgring

I don't speak German but have owned a Caterham 7 for years and anyone who has driven one can see from the video that the caterham isn't being driven flat out at all, loads of speed left. It was noticeable how they cust away often in the corners to Sabine rather than show the CSR easily whupping the Porsche out of the corners....
come on guys - the CSR260 has 256bhp (hence the name - rounding up to 260) and weighs 575kg for a pwr of 445 hp/t. The GT2 has 462hp (2001-2003 model) and weighs 1440kg for a pwr of 321. The car is only mildly tuned as the bar reading is 1 on the display - 1st stage tune gives around 530bhp so a pwr of 368. Taking into account aerodynamics and the Porsche will be faster on the straights and slower on the corners due to its extra mass and higher centre of gravity. Great race.
So lets sum it up: you have no clue how a Seven behaves in corners, you conclude from the headlamps that the car must be a POS and you clearly don't know that a CSR still IS a Seven. Now tell me how I should argue with you.

At least 540hp/1284kg GT2(modified) does 7min 15sec in Nurburgring which Enzo is never able to achieve, even though Enzo has better weight to hp ratio.
Simply put, that Caterham has approx 205hp/1000 lbs. That puts it right around Enzo level (approx 219hp/1000 lbs). The Enzo would take it in a straight due to higher top speed... but if you have a lot of curves, the CSR260 would have a good chance of equaling or bettering the Enzo. As for as the Porche, not even a challenge (obviously).

From the video, the Caterhams was beating the Porsche in the corners pretty well. There are very few production cars that can beat Caterhams or other Lotus 7 clones in the corners. On the Straights, the Porsche GT2 can destroy a Caterham, however the CSR260 has a faster acceleration than a GT2.
I live near the german Caterham distributor and talked to the guy, who drove the caterham (yea the guy in the end) and he told me that DMAX TV always had to signal him to slow down after corners so that the Porsche could keep up and that they could make a decent documentary, otherwise they never had the chance to film both of them :D

the old 230bhp one on boggo M1 dampers did 7.55 a long long time ago and is certainly wasn't driven by a 'Walter Rohrl' ringmeister either
the latest one with 263bhp, an updated chassis and far better dampers would easily be good for 7.40 something... maybe even into the 7.30's

The CSR has a better suspension than the dedion-based R500. The CSR was quicker than the R500 on the Top Gear track in Dunsfold, England

Yeaah... So that's Nurbuhrgring... that's a rear engined car with so so handling... Nurburhgring has more corners than I can count... and the Caterham is dubbed on of the best handling cars of all time. Not only that, but this one has 260 Hp, and can accelerate from 0-62 mph in 3.1 seconds. Porsche can't do that!! At least not this one! And on this course it's seems obvious to me the caterham would win.

yeah, it does have a lot of corners but a csr only does about 150mph, even on the norderschlief that's a big disadvantage, and for this track the csr is waay to twitchy, as there are 2 manyu bumps

A road going carrera 2S would be easily beaten by a paltry 150bhp caterham. Even a sorted elise would take it round most uk circuits. A 240bhp caterham like the one here is as quick as a RACE GT3 (race, not road car). Just take a look at the times for the carrera cup on mst.

Oh, please, stop arguing about if the Porsche is better, worse, more expensive or whatever than the Super 7. Both are astonishing masterpieces, each on its own class. These cars are so different than cannot be directly compared. While 911s should be compared to Astons, Ferraris, BMWs, Jags, etc, Super 7s should be compared to Atoms, Elises and the like. And I love both 911s an Sevens, so please just enjoy the spectacle of seeing these two state of the art cars together on the legendary track.

Yeah, sure, that's why the GT2 comes with leather, A/C, Stereo, SatNav, etc. The GT2 is a hi end model, but retains comfort goodies that the Seven lacks. If you want a proper track weapon, look at the new GT2 RS, it has just achieved a 7.18 lap, find a stock Seven able to beat that. But the Nordschleife is not a 'proper' track, then, or what?

you don't know anything. Porsche GT2 it's not like other carreras; you should know that it was born mainly without electronic BECAUSE WAS A BASE FOR PREPARATIONS FOR COMPETITIONS. And even an Ultima GTR has leather, aircon and stereo, so this doesn't matter.
And the gt2 RS is a LIMITED (and expensive) EDITION , with 620 hp and less weight, just for the rule i wrote you before: power weight ratio. BUT.....

Maybe after that you be also thinking that they cannot be compared to 911s at all. Maybe with Atoms, Radicals, Westfields and the like, but no with 911s and comon 91 1 rivals like R8, Vantage, BMW ///M or some others.

i've been in ultima gtr last sunday in viterbo, italy, and these cars hasn't an official ring lap, but you can always look the TOP GEAR TRACK LAP. gt2.. mm.. even carrGT...

you say it did 7:18, and so? take a ton cheaper ariel atom, or an ultima gtr, or a radical... this one rounds since 2005 a lot under 7s, precisely in 6:55 and actually in 6:48.
gt2 rs it's half minute slower than radical, because of the always main rule: POWER WEIGHT RATIO RULES.

returning to cars, that's the object of this debate, i'm tired of people that sucks but are so arrogant to not admit when they are wrong. It's so clear even on this vid. Porsche is fast, not sport. Infact in this vid it arrives very fast at the straights, even 40kmh more than caterham. But at the first turn, it disappears. The PWR rule is the concept of F1 cars and, at the end, of any real sport car. gt2 is good, but nothing more.

What needs to be put in perspective is the price, Caterhams can be had for around 10K, try finding a Porsche GT2 for that!
Also the Caterhams are very cheap to maintain, cheap tyres (smaller wheels), Cheaper brakes, Cheap engine parts (normally ford engines) etc.
Caterhams lack top end speed, but are the most fun you can have for the money!

yep, the ring is in its own peculiar class with its long straights but on any regular circuit an R500-esque car would destroy any factory Porsche.. GT2, GT3RS, TURBO, carerra GT, 959 or otherwise. A csr will lap donnington park in around 1.12/1.13 and that is hugely quick, up there with a GT time and a factory porsche wouldn't even get near. I still want a 993 RS clubsport though !

But caterham has a little max speed. Nurburgring has some quick parts, where caterham speed is 200-220 kmh and Porsche speed is 250-300 kmh. Donnington, Belford is "slow" tracks, not so "fast " as Nurburgring

I don't speak German but have owned a Caterham 7 for years and anyone who has driven one can see from the video that the caterham isn't being driven flat out at all, loads of speed left. It was noticeable how they cust away often in the corners to Sabine rather than show the CSR easily whupping the Porsche out of the corners....

come on guys - the CSR260 has 256bhp (hence the name - rounding up to 260) and weighs 575kg for a pwr of 445 hp/t. The GT2 has 462hp (2001-2003 model) and weighs 1440kg for a pwr of 321. The car is only mildly tuned as the bar reading is 1 on the display - 1st stage tune gives around 530bhp so a pwr of 368. Taking into account aerodynamics and the Porsche will be faster on the straights and slower on the corners due to its extra mass and higher centre of gravity. Great race.

I would never version is a dream, the motor is in the far back of 911s so you can release the power in the bend and let the back slide out, balance it there and then puch down the power with a bit of correctionstearing, you cant do that with a midengined ferrari o and absolutly not with a fron engined car in the same way. the 993 gt2s chassies is one of my favorites, at least in the best game ever, Need For Speed Porcsche 2000:D

I think GT2 is faster than Enzo in Nurburgring.
At least 540hp/1284kg GT2(modified) does 7min 15sec in Nurburgring which Enzo is never able to achieve, even though Enzo has better weight to hp ratio.

Simply put, that Caterham has approx 205hp/1000 lbs. That puts it right around Enzo level (approx 219hp/1000 lbs). The Enzo would take it in a straight due to higher top speed... but if you have a lot of curves, the CSR260 would have a good chance of equaling or bettering the Enzo. As for as the Porche, not even a challenge (obviously).

From the video, the Caterhams was beating the Porsche in the corners pretty well. There are very few production cars that can beat Caterhams or other Lotus 7 clones in the corners. On the Straights, the Porsche GT2 can destroy a Caterham, however the CSR260 has a faster acceleration than a GT2.

I live near the german Caterham distributor and talked to the guy, who drove the caterham (yea the guy in the end) and he told me that DMAX TV always had to signal him to slow down after corners so that the Porsche could keep up and that they could make a decent documentary, otherwise they never had the chance to film both of them :D
