  • Lol. Mr.Deeds

  • Who else has seen Mr. Deeds?

  • Remember, this was made the same year man first walked on the moon. Space travel was new. It was dangerous, experimental and had the nation & the world enthralled. Those of us that were alive watched the whole spectacle on our black & white TVs. The astronauts knew that they could easily die when they got strapped in before lift off. Numerous unmanned attempts crashed and burned up. The NASA astronauts were all-American heros and our hearts were with them on each mission.

  • Happy Birthday David Bowie !

  • Wow. I hadn't seen this video or heard this version of the song. Interesting.

  • I hate when top comments are not about the artist or the video

  • Meet me in my bedroom, David Bowie

  • Lovely

  • The bit about the stars looking very different today always cracks me up.

  • This is wonderful! I like the way he looks with this haircut, totally unrecognizable, very 1960s. David is always different.

  • Bowie you are perfect!! :)

  • WHOLY CRAP ITS ANAKAN SKYWALKER!

  • @danielstf2

    Luke, surely?

  • And for the record, David was not subject to any mind bending chemicals.... LOL what a classic though.

  • he sorta looks like Liam Gallagher here! orshould I say Liam looks like him.

  • thumbs up if u prefere the album version.. with bowies sax solo

  • i think i like the '72 video better

  • Mr Deeds!

  • I can never get over how different he looks in this.

  • 2:50

    My favorite part

  • Interesting did you know: the first voice we hear, the low voice in the first part, isn't Bowie but his guitarist.

  • 312 Never smoked weeds while listening this song ...

  • I’ve seen them used as batons and nose flutes, and occasionally weapons, but in the hands of David Bowie even recorders are groovy!

  • Is this our Liam?

  • doing my french homework to this song<3

  • Deeds lol 1:28

  • His shirt says G C. did anyone notice that?

  • @beaconnell His space suit said Major Tom, did you notice?

  • @beaconnell i think that means "Ground Controll"

  • @beaconnell

No doubt for "Ground Control". He's playing both "Ground Control" and "Major Tom" in the video.

  • when i was younger i loved visualizing scenarios simply just from listening to this song, before having a laptop and discovering pot that is..

  • adictivo @_@

  • WWoooouAAAAAah!!

  • I would have loved to been a 20-something in the 1960s....

  • CLOCKWORK ORANGE DEJA VU. i think so

  • I honestly cant decide which version I like better... Star fox: Space oddity, or the original...? :/

  • @KirbySonicTeam Why not like them equally? ^^ By the ways i really dig your user name.

  • Dude I have the best choir ever. We're going to sing this later on this year in Choir,

  • Alright, I want the ground control tshirt. If anyone can find one and send me a link in a reply, that be great.

  • Comment removed

  • lol and people think im crazy because i like this song at 16~

  • @BNRMoulinet SAME HERE

  • I have a strange obsession with Ground Control.....

  • @KittiMitties Wow, so its not just me. I know my friend said are you listening to it again! ( I lost count ).

  • @Salix1980 Haha I must watch this video at least 5 times a day, its so amazing

  • can we start the 6t's over again...only without the wars and assasinations. where have all the good times gone?????

  • Hahahahahahahaha. Whoever said that only you oldies can appreciate art. I'm a '90s baby and I still know a beautiful song when I hear one. I just think it's a gift to be able to see the beauty of more than one genre. Sure, this song might be glorious in its own right, but being able to appreciate everything is such a large part of living wholly.

  • first time i heard this song i was.high...it was AMAZING!

  • I like this better than the radio drop, it erudes from an era just passing; and the ushers who would bring forth the new, hoping to clear the jackals thrashing at the after-birth.

  • Zombie ninja David Bowie is my sensei!

  • "The papers want to know who's shirt you wear"

    His shirt says Major Tom.

Why would you ask who the Major Tom shirt belongs to? Still an amazing song.

  • @primospartan I think they mean the designer. :P

  • @primospartan -I always interpreted the line to be a reference to either the name brand of Major Tom's shirt or perhaps to some wise words printed on a t-shirt.

  • this song makes me tear up idk why. I don't even believe I understand it at all, but I feel it.

  • Saying its 'cool' because its not mainstream makes you sound like a bitch, listen to it if you like it.

  • ah lsd :)

  • david bowie in 1969 was NOT mainstream

    maybe by 1975

  • @3:14 reminded me of Clockwork Orange

  • how has it only been three minutes?

  • brentalfloss brought me here

  • @metamonkeymachine Yea me too.

  • i need some wine to go with all of that cheese...

  • @zukamiku More like whine.

  • no they won't call todays mass produced singer fodder art.

  • he looks like chop-top from TCM2

  • does anyone think he looks like Edna Mode from the incredibles in this video?

  • ALL HAIL LORD BOWIE!!!

  • who the hell are the 288 who dislike this amazing early piece of arrangement of the one and only David Bowie? .___.'

  • I don't know what it is about Bowie, but I would totally hit that. And I bet it would blow my mind.

  • I prefere this version

  • 3:21 on the far right (bowie's left) she's scratching her head

  • Im 11 and I LOVE ALL SONGS AT AND BEFORE THE 1980'S!! Like this post if you agree with meeeee!!!

  • I fucking hate it when top comments are replies.. And BOTH ARE!

  • heard this song at the Rock N Roll H.O.F. this summer, lifechanging for this 14 year old

  • This is so awesome! Long live Bowie!

  • about heroin?

  • I love it! He looks like John Denver, though, hehe

  • ground control is amazing

  • This acoustic version is better than the original

  • Is it wrong to say that Oblivion is Mastodon's Space Oddity?

  • Ground Control is AMAZINNNN'

  • I heard this song in an English class in MEXICO

  • Theme song for Kerbal Space Program.

  • this is legit and real.

  • David bowie is like marmite, you either love his music or hate it.

  • one of david's nerdiest moments.

  • 2:52 hes talking into a cell phone......... 40 years ago... wait whutt!

  • David bowie ...Oh socool song !...

    Now this is music !!!

  • Thumbs up if you here because of brentalfloss"es latest video!

  • he was 22 when he made this video.

  • major tom is crazy

  • A little PD just in case, when I say not much people knew about him in 1969 I mean in 1969 BEFORE Space Oddity

  • There is no way he could have known how prolific this song was whenever he sat down to write it. Actual people from the future still listen to this song. It's just amazing.

  • He is great in this video, one of the best music videos back then.

I just watched this 3 times in a row lol

  • He was seduced by space sirens! I'd never understood what happened to him until I watched the video

  • @sarakimble This is a music promotional film, long before the videotaped glossiness most are accoustomed to from being overly used to what MTV turned the Music promotional film into the music video, same idea but two different creatures. I was born just before MTV hit the airwaves so I'm very used to these 60's promos and love that new ones are unearthed all the time. I still swear there was a promo for the Who's whiskey man but I may be confused because I last saw what I think I did at 5

  • @moxie96 I'm in your age group. I was born in '59. I saw a lot of these on Ed Sullivan back in the day. He would announce a certain artist or group to be on the show, then he would just show a film of them quite like this one. I think they made it easier for the variety shows to use pre-produced films rather than go through the logistics of having them perform in the studio.

  • He has the most PERFECTLY shaped English nose. lolll I know that sounds weird, but my exhusband was 100% "english" blah blah genealogy" and his nose was EXACTLY like that; and my son's too; not like mine at all. So beautiful; just like this song. It's so funny; later I went to Sweden and now I can even understand a Swedish nose when I see it ;D I LOVE IT !!!!! Beauty -- ethnicity -- family ;-) <3 Thank you world.

  • This is beautiful!

  • His face at 0.54...

  • Thanks for the upload great song, rare video.

  • I hate how there was a renault advert with this song making it seem very arty

  • Ending up in a space ship with lightly dressed moon faries is a far better end to this story than I would imagine by lyrics alone.

  • 269 people didn't make the grade

  • I'm Brazilian 20 years and love songs 50's 60's 70's 80's 90's and now no one has more good songs than just U2 still amazing. I love the English language I love David Bowie.

  • U2 opend with this last night in winnipeg, it was fuckin unreal

  • This was done because of the first moon landing in 69. True artist.

  • what a fucking talent...really...thank god he's famous..it would be really unfair if he wasnt...well i would've fuck a lot of people if he wasnt

  • Alan Wake

  • Way too much pot

  • @Folk1994

The song's actually a metaphor for Heroin trips if I recall

  • I love the way he "acts" gravity free. Love it!

  • I read somewhere that David Bowie was wearing a wig when he filmed this. It said he shaved his head for an audition for a role in a movie. You know if that was the case then it would have been cool if he would have worn different wigs when being Major Tom and Ground Control. I know it’s too late now, lol, but I just think it would have been cool.

  • I like this psychedelic version much better then the plain acoustic one on the radio

  • Gotta love the tin foil astronaut. Nothing better.

  • Look at the chompers on that guy! Great song, Great Artist!

  • it must have inspired "Moon" - directed by Bowie's son... where Sam Bell looks at himself lying on the operating bed in the space station... Moon could have been a remake...

  • Wow, look how young he is. Now fast forward to The Labyrinth. Lol

  • awesome

  • HE'S SO YOUNG!

  • I've read all the comments posted..."please" just realize how fortunate we are that we have the oppotunity to revisit the past, and someone has taken the time to make sure we can. Always be positive! A positive intention makes our future positive.

  • 240 people spare that they did not give birth in those times.

  • Ah, he used to be so nerdy :3

  • I'm 13 years old, I'm from Canada, and I love David Bowie. I feel like I should have been born in another time era.

  • What a very Very golden oldie. Thumbs up for posting this.

  • it IS David...but before he really became David Bowie for good

  • Ah... it's from Bowie's promotional film 'Love You Till Tuesday' should of read the description I suppose. duh

  • before his wife?

  • This is sooo trippy high... especially the flute solo Like that's LEGIT!

  • drugs ftw?

  • Interesting fact about 'Space Oddity' #205:

Ironically there has never been a 'Major' by the name of Tom in any military anywhere in the world ever.

    True story, look it up.

Other than that great song, one of Bowie's best without doubt.

  • @iBeatMyRobot3

I always sort of figured "Tom" was used as a nickname, not that that was his surname. Google agrees with your claim though.

  • I love this song... has a different way to face the death...

  • Truly one and the only, David Bowie :)

  • Way ahead of his time... this video looks like it was made in '79 not '69.

  • oh my gosh.... the hair... the hair..... bowie reminds me of Luke Skywalker in a New Hope. And the girls are hideous too... lol, this almost makes me pine for the later one he did with the Ziggy hairdo.

  • This song is #1 of the top 13 songs about space travel.

  • 234 people solicited for the paralypics

  • I want Bowie to tour again!

  • meraviglioso e incredibile...

  • esta es la cuarta vez que la escucho, no pienso parar en un rato mas

  • i'm an 15year old boy from austria, i dont wanna be ''cool'' or sth i just wanna say my point of view : why is this (real) music so underrated in our company ?!!

why is everybody laughing at me because i love the beatles the who david bowie the doors ?!! ... i just love real music and not crap from today!

  • thank god,something thats not vevo-ified

  • does anybody else know that this song was inspired by Pink Floyd's Syd Barrett?

    because it was :)

  • Bowie could write a movie for this classic, the ending is epic dude, so fcking epic

  • that's not david bowie.. this looks homemade. i detect a trololo

  • @4567lalala Ur an idiot fool. Do i have that much time. Puck no

  • @4567lalala What are you talking about?!?! Of course that's Bowie! :D He was really into theatrics.

  • @4567lalala I think it's him much younger than other videos, but I don't know enough about him to say for sure.

  • @4567lalala look at his eyes during ground control

  • @4567lalala do you know wut technology was like in 1969? obviously it wasnt very good but either way he still became famous in an age where they didnt use technology to make them sound good unlike now so i think i would prefer bad videos with good unique voices and music than the same junky beats and similar voices singing all the songs i listen to with great videos ITS ABOUT THE MUSIC NOT THE VIDEO

  • @4567lalala I think this video was made in the late 1960's. That was before MTV and the like. There really was no such thing as music television at that time. So saying it looks 'Home made" isn't saying much. It kinda is "home made" but more like "Studio made". And yes, That IS David Bowie. I assure you.

  • @4567lalala I detect a young one! lol Yes, it's David Bowie.

  • We heard this song in a english class..

I'm a 13 year old girl from Denmark.

I am the only one that likes this song..

I'm also the only one, who doesn't understand the music of the present :P

  • @MusicRockRebellion

i am not the ONLY one who likes this song....

i'm am also the only one who knows that todays is crap...

  • @MusicRockRebellion nope, i've loved David Bowie since i was around 13 too :)

i love rock n roll, and thats it

  • @MusicRockRebellion Shouldnt be proud that you cant understand modern music.

  • @MusicRockRebellion lol i feel the same way, my english teacher plays the who in our class XD

  • @MusicRockRebellion Hehe! I'm a 35 year old girl from Finland, and I heard this song at an English class also, at 13 in 1988! I remember being the only one who started to dig Bowie while everyone else listened Rick Astley (!). Bowie is a true artist while most of the music published today will be Youtube jokes of tomorrow...

  • @MusicRockRebellion There's still some good bands around. You've just got to look harder.

  • @MusicRockRebellion And for that...we salute you

  • @MusicRockRebellion ~ Great post, and congratulations for your very good taste in music. If I can recommend you something "new/present", you should listen to these albums:( 2010) "The Age of Adz" by Sufjan Stevens, "Absolute Dissent" by KJ, "Trans-Continental Hustle" by Gogol Bordello, and "The Suburbs" by Arcade Fire; (2011) "Red Barked Tree" by Wire, "Content" by Gang of Four, and "The King of Limbs" by Radiohead. Mars Volta is a fantastic band that you should hear if you haven't already.
