BL. pls come back again. make yr budget car. i love them. pls sell us BL cars. buy back mini from bmw. buy them all back. BL rawks. make mini rwd and economical car. pls buy back
Going slightly OT but they say that the way people treat their own motor industry (even the people running it) is a reflection of that nations health and then after that nations motor industry is done for, the same people who destroyed it in the first place then move on to doing the same with the country.
Are the powertrains being manufactured in England, or is it just assembly? Assembly isn't much. Power train manufacture would really be something though.
my dad says that the LE500 is all sold out but i do know that there is another car comming out its like the LE500 but with less stuff on it so its cheaper but i dont know when you were able to buy the LE500 from dealers but there were only 500 of them.
me and my dad were blessed with the gift of having a LE500 press car for a week and they are really nice. its orange with black rims yes i know that sounds strange but they go good together its fast too nice car all round
Yes, we Brits certainly killed off BL with our laziness and complacency. Let's hope at some point in the future we can start manufacturing again in this country!
Ive owned 3 rovers in my time not the greatest cars in the world i agree but no means the worst.Rover was finished in the final few years by producing large amounts of models with less quality instead of producing less models with a far greater quality, corperate greed thats what happened to MG ROVER.I hope they do return in the future with British owners and show the world Britain has what it takes to make more quality motors to go with its outstanding motoring heritage.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
GOOD RIDDANCE TO BAD RUBBISH I SAY....
My dad bought a BRAND NEW Morris Marina in 1973 and it was covered in rust around the wheel arches and the paint was flaking off when it was less than 18 MONTHS OLD!!! He took it back to the British Leyland dealer where he got the car from and they just said "Too bad the car is out of warranty" He started to buy Ford and vauxhall from then on. It is Karma for treating there customers like crap.
Thanks MerceleCovoes. I appreciate your kind words to our Great country. I too agree that the marques of these cars will never die. Alas if only the manufacture of them was still here. Britain's trade deficit is dispicable.
My friend. Please answer my question if you see this. Is MG really back to UK? Are there any LE500 in the dealers? And can you order it now? And how long it will take to get the car to your home? MG3(ZR) was launched in China this summer. Although I have not seem them around in my town. But yeah, lot of advertisement, lot of them.
Tata owns the Land Rover and Jaguar nameplates; a Chinese automaker owns the Rover name. BMW broke Rover and Land Rover apart, and sold Land Rover to Ford. Rover kept on building cars on their own.
Its nice to see that the chinese are making rovers again in 2008, O.k they have a diffrent name but at the heart and soul of it they are still Rovers! Also soon they will be making them over in the u.k again. I went on the website for nac mg and there is the 75 which is called the mg7 and also the british iconic sportscar the TF and also a new MG streetwise which i think is the same as the 25 streetwise. Cant wait! :-)
I HATE bmw for what they did to Rover. By the late 90's early 2000 Rover (under Honda management) where making fab cars like the earlyer 200, 400, 600, 800 then the 75, 25, 45 ,25 streetwise and also the MG ZT, ZR, TF, also the iconic mini. Untill bmw came along nicked the mini and then fucked rover up. I really HATE what bmw did and would NEVER buy a bmw. Long live Rover and death to bmw!
The Mini did die with BMW. The so called BMW mini bears no relation to the original design. It's just like all the other hatchbacks out there and just branded a Mini.
Yo tengo un MG ZR 160 vivo en México , aqui solo hay aprox. 2000 autos Rover y Mg entre el Rover 75,MG ZR,MG ZT y MGTF ,soy orgullosamente MG ROVER !!
I wonder if Browns Lane is around still BMW they own the old oxford morris plant and as for the allegro and princess there factory was torn down but for Jaguar i still wonder even though i live in coventry if there browns lane plant is around?
Jaguar XJ40 a project that started during british leyland and the prototypes they built were off the princess and other leyland cars inculding the rover.
why do brits buy french cars, friends of mine who work for the aa, say there the most unrealiable but we dumbasses still buy them, they never bought nothing we ever made.
we are all responsible for the collapse of Rover. we choose to buy the cars or not. we built the cars. we designed the cars. we joined the unions that protected our jobs. we are English, these were our cars and just because an englishman drives a toyota, does not make him any different to the english people who designed and built these cars, we got what we deserved, no more great cars or proud British car industry. we are pathetic americans look out your doing it too...
Good choice of music. My father owned a Austin Allegro and "silence" and "darkness" are words I think describes it well. Did Lucas patent darkness BTW?
Do you know anything in Longbridge? If so please tell me. I hope what you know is good for MG. In China, NAC has already start selling MG ZT(as MG7), TF, and MG ZR(as MG3) is coming. But I want to know something about Longbridge. Cause that is the core of MG's success. I prefer not to said MG in China's future is bright. But she start to win her place in some Chinese's heart.
love the "save british indutries save british jobs, those slackers at BL got what they deserved, they made a few good cars , dolomite spint and the mini, thats about it in my own opinion
Well, I think the amount of Peugeot 207's, 307's and 308's that are on our roads, the Clio's, Meganne's and Scenic's, citroen C2's which boyracers love, and the Citroen Picasoe's then I'm afraid they will far outlive MG Rover.
i have a Maxi.this is my second one and ive had to modifie it to make it useable for todays driving habitat, cutting out in trafic from fuel vaporisation isnt fun.the brakes have to be stripped and greased evey 500miles if im lucky, other wise there out of balance and judder. the cars only done 26k,people dont want the hasle of having to do it,things like that stick and give a bad image
people who worked at BL just didnt care, people would put handfuls of nuts and bolts in the door pillers so they would rattle.ect, they were on strike more then they worked, cars wouldnt fit through the tunnels and so were low loaded and taken to another site, wilst not painted or coverd,so bare mettle (1800s)so at the end of they day they were doomed because no one cared.
Thanks to Mrs Thatcher and the Management they were on strike and the British Press AKA Clarkson. Some cared like my uncle who worked there for 30 years until year 2000 and he helped develop the new mini. Who cares about relability cause if u have a car that is reliable then its boring if u have 1 thats no u get to fix them yr self if u r like me
The problem is that most people do not know how to fix a car, and don't really care. Those that do would rather just have the stupid thing stay working.
Furthermore, BL has a long history of stupid design. The Rover SD1 discarded the MacPhearson strut design of its predecessor in favor of a live axle. And the build quality was awful.
ocasonaly BL did make some cars that sliped the net as it were and were good cars, cars that were waxoiled or had some sort of rust prevention are still here.just.i too have worked at nissan, and quite a few cars came through our work shop with problems, turbos blowing, diesels running on there own oil, intelignt keys not inteligent enough, but this all started when they merged with the french, back in the 70's/80's jap cars were reliable simple almost maintence free and cheep.
Oh Yer 1 More Thing I may be only 14 Years old but if u want to argue about Relaibility then go ahead cause i Work in a garage and there is a lot of Jappanese with engine/ECU Trouble and there is only 1 Rover in the Garage which is a 216 WITH A HONDA ENGINE which the Pistons have broke so it needs a engine replaceement
Try and understand if you can. MG Rover as a business is doomed to fail. I respect your judgement fully as you say you work in a garage (at the age of 14) but Toyota as a business works, Nissan as a business works, Peugeot and Citroen works, but MG Rover is gone. Do you understand my point now?
No I Dont cause the thing is that MGRover is owned by NAC and I can prove that i work in a garge its called Violet Street Service Centre, Widnes. Nissan is Renault did u no that
Yes, I know Nissan is owned by Renault. But Renault and Nissan are still going as car manufacturing businnes. MG Rover is not. Even though it is now NAC or what ever it is, MG Rover will never rise again. I also don't doubt your ocupation. You are also compleatly missing the point. Therefore, I shall ignore all your future posts. Thanks.
I no japanese car companies never fail but that is also due to people with no passion or taste who buy them and their governments wouldn't let them go bust unlike ours the lights of blair & Brown aka wankers and with our press and greed managers and howcome brown helped northan rock other companies r just as importent to our country.
Also my dad had a Nissan Primera which Broke Down 10 Times and Rusted, fall Apart, Scraped and now has a Renault Scenic which has broke down Twice due to the fact the Gearbox was not fixed propely at the Gearbox Place and none of it has Fell apart or rusted
LOL hamster youre telling the world, a BL product is more realiable than a Japanese car LOLOL , nearly choked down my hot coffee in one when i read that.
I will stand by exactly what I said before. You don't see the government running around helping Ford and Vauxhall because sales might have slipped. Why they gave a few million to Rover in the first place is beyond me. There are alot of people on here who think that Rover's were good cars and they probably are, but there are so much better products out there I'm afraid. Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Lexus etc, they all seem to be going well enough.
Do u listen to clarkson , if u do then don't he no's nothing and Ford, etc r Forighen and each year now Rover is Gone our country loses £3B , thats y people wont get the pension. How many Have u owned they r beter than yr average BMW , and BMW OW its Success 2 times over to Rover. My Dad had a N Reg Rover 214 , and it never broke down,No Panel's come off and my uncle has a 07 Reg BMW 5 Series and its Diff Explosed and the I-Drive Computer has broke about 3 times and Bits have Come of.
Clarkson, he has no influence over my opinions. It seems people are clutching at straws. I will only ever own Japanese cars as they are the most reliable you can get. The reason why I have never bought british is because the products are out-dated, badly made, and appaulingly unreliable. Stop remanicing and look at MG Rover as a business and its obvious it was doomed to fail. That's all I'm saying.
Also my Dad had a Honda Accord and it broke down 6 Times and the Door Trim Fell Apart and Rusted and Got Scrapped plus 1 of the breakdown's was the cylinders Siezing up. They r not badely made or out of date, what they r is British Cars Made buy British Workers with british Money but now oh no Britain is Over No Industry is Left even the Red Arrows Planes r to be made in India.
RIP BL MGRover, RIP Britain if u dont like British Stuff then move to Japan our country should have never joined the Eu Then We Could Put Laws on Forighn Imports.
I'll always buy british from food - cars even if I have to run around in a Riley if I have to as I belive that type of car you drive signals they way you drive ie sports cars fast drivers etc
billions of pounds available for a wreckless lending northern bank? A couple of million for our last volume car maker ! A bloody disgrace ,new lbour wont be content until they have sold off all of our industry and let all of the world settle here! Great Britain r.i.p!!!
I didn't have much with Brittish cars, but considering the rich history of Brittish motoring, I still think it's sad that it has died such a honorless death. They deserved better.
i agree totally, but british engineering on a major scale is surely over now ? The internet was a british invention but looking around you would be forgiven for thinking so, the USA have taken over most of it now.
british engineering will always be the best and i dont give a shit what anyone else says. it's the bloody politicians, wankers like brown and blair who are demolishing our manufacturing industry but we will fight to the end and win!!!
I recon all the lovers BL,MG Rover e.t.c go to meet Mr Brown and ask Why didn't you help Britain has nothing now we might as well cross out Britain and call it Germany no offence to Germans i like germans but we but to much of their stuff, I tell you lot something iam 14 now so when i learn to drive iam never going to own a forein car only own British cars.
In my opinion people who dont buy british but they live in britain, well they can All piss off to Germany, where ever they get there cars, for years BMW copied BL Rover and what a great vid its touching very when rover went bust i actuly had tears out my eyes becaues i knew britain was over it sold its soal to Germany, all BMW's are is fasion itemes with to scense of passion or soal.
ah yeah but i have owned nearly new vauxhall products of the late 70's early 80's and i can tell you that they were diabolically unreliable please believe me! toyota? can't speak for them but i really do'nt think that an early/mid 70's ford faired much better did it? The truht is that they were all crap whoever the manfacturer its just that technology has given us better cars today the same as television's surely ?
Lets be honest here, the products were not brilliant compared to the likes of Toyota, Ford, Vauxhall etc. There is also this reputation of Longbridge constantly on strike in the 70's etc. I would never have bought a Rover and as sad as it is for all those people who lost their jobs, it was ineveatable it would happen. You can't keep a company alive that sells overpriced rubbish. If it was good, it would still be here today. Business is business im afraid.
Has anyone noticed that the Government will happily pour money into the pockets of those poor hard done by shareholders of Northern Rock (and here I mean the corporate bods - not the individual savers) Yet to save British jobs like Rover, Peugeot, Cadbury even - it's oh so much easier to just pick up the pieces afterwards instead! Napoleon was right - we are a Nation of Shopkeepers!
and when you look around at a nation without industry, is'nt it getting expensive to live here! taxation of the masses is the only way forward in an ailing nation, take Belgium as an example no industry, horrendous cost of living though! our banks are steadily decliling as well, which will happen in a shop with nothing to sell!
there is a more sinister side to all of this and i've been reading all of the comments here. If we are to become the 53rd state of america then we cannot have industry! we had an aircraft industry which was the pride of the world remember ? but took on the u.s counterpart and made serious inroads over there! we have been silently killed off, a european nation ? i think not, this once strong nation will adopt the dollar before it adopts the euro for certain! and thats why we have no industry.
The truth is that some of you know what you are talking about.
The truth is that some of you do not. Loss of jobs and industries. Loss of heritage, loss of pride, loss of nationality. When and what will it take to make the general public wake up and make a stand ???. Long live the memory of Rover, long live the memory of what was once a GREAT BRITAIN.
there we were the best of british.all engineering jobs gone work in these wank shity warehouses like tesco and b and fucking q dead heads jobs what the hell is this country all about with crap everything and forigners everywhere doin work for nothing crap rubbish goverment suck
why did our motor industry failed so catastophically? other countries are so proud of theirs?,they support/sponsor there own motor industry? Mg/rover was making money and had new ideas till the asssets where allowed stripped. The Rover Rdx60 project was a sign of things that where to come! Ford own the Rover branding now but not using it,.Why didnt we see an MG Cityrover? Hope this video brings it home to people who bought humdrum euroboxes instead of British engineering...
i agree, I"m american and you see minis and rovers here all the time, but I think i've seen one peugot in my entire life, let alone any other french models. its' unheard of here
i love this video made me cry im 19 in december and i hate these crap foregnier cars but the british cars when i was younger was always there but now its full of foregn rubbish love the video miss the cars love the music
bmw owe its success to the british motor industry twice over, their first car was a copy of the Austin 7,and the new small BMW,i refuse to call it a mini,is a total pisstake of what the original mini was all about.ive never bought a foreign car,and never will, and if that means driving a 40yr old morris, then so be it!
Would you spend the best part of a years wages on a sh1t rust box when for the SAME money you can have a VW. That is going to last and last.mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm NO
Dont say that, most people had strong feelings for Rover MG. How would you feel if you lost your job and could get an other one. I have a Rover 600 and its great, probly the most modern british sallon ever made. The Rover 75 is fantastic, but it was a bit ott.
the problem with the British is that you guys have the "IT'LL DO" mentality
it WONT FUCKING DO, you need to make a car that will kick ass for decades like the Germans. Brits made ok cars but in a few years they could not compete with Asian and Germans

THAT IS WHAT YOU GET FOR MAKING SHIT CARS!!

JudgedReaper 3 years ago
My friend. Please answer my question if you see this. Is MG really back to UK? Are there any LE500 in the dealers? And can you order it now? And how long it will take to get the car to your home? MG3(ZR) was launched in China this summer. Although I have not seem them around in my town. But yeah, lot of advertisement, lot of them.

yeah tata own the rover name i think but dont make any rover car.
dan171717d 2 years ago

1sm82 3 years ago 4
if BMW weren't there...Mini would be death like Rover!

The Mini did die with BMW. The so called BMW mini bears no relation to the original design. It's just like all the other hatchbacks out there and just branded a Mini.

Rest in Peace British quality craftmanship
1116tom 4 years ago
people who worked at BL just didnt care, people would put handfuls of nuts and bolts in the door pillers so they would rattle.ect, they were on strike more then they worked, cars wouldnt fit through the tunnels and so were low loaded and taken to another site, wilst not painted or coverd,so bare mettle (1800s)so at the end of they day they were doomed because no one cared.
austinmaxi 4 years ago
Thanks to Mrs Thatcher and the Management they were on strike and the British Press AKA Clarkson. Some cared like my uncle who worked there for 30 years until year 2000 and he helped develop the new mini. Who cares about relability cause if u have a car that is reliable then its boring if u have 1 thats no u get to fix them yr self if u r like me
hamster639 4 years ago
The problem is that most people do not know how to fix a car, and don't really care. Those that do would rather just have the stupid thing stay working.
Furthermore, BL has a long history of stupid design. The Rover SD1 discarded the MacPhearson strut design of its predecessor in favor of a live axle. And the build quality was awful.
spasticteapot 4 years ago
ocasonaly BL did make some cars that sliped the net as it were and were good cars, cars that were waxoiled or had some sort of rust prevention are still here.just.i too have worked at nissan, and quite a few cars came through our work shop with problems, turbos blowing, diesels running on there own oil, intelignt keys not inteligent enough, but this all started when they merged with the french, back in the 70's/80's jap cars were reliable simple almost maintence free and cheep.
austinmaxi 4 years ago
Oh Yer 1 More Thing I may be only 14 Years old but if u want to argue about Relaibility then go ahead cause i Work in a garage and there is a lot of Jappanese with engine/ECU Trouble and there is only 1 Rover in the Garage which is a 216 WITH A HONDA ENGINE which the Pistons have broke so it needs a engine replaceement
hamster639 4 years ago
Try and understand if you can. MG Rover as a business is doomed to fail. I respect your judgement fully as you say you work in a garage (at the age of 14) but Toyota as a business works, Nissan as a business works, Peugeot and Citroen works, but MG Rover is gone. Do you understand my point now?
jsj24uk 4 years ago
No I Dont cause the thing is that MGRover is owned by NAC and I can prove that i work in a garge its called Violet Street Service Centre, Widnes. Nissan is Renault did u no that
hamster639 4 years ago

They r Better lokking than the Japanesse cars, more relable, better made, cheaper, more conftable and most of all they r Rovers.
I will Say Again the only faults in the K-Series engines was Head Gasket Faliure due to the Owners not checking the Water Levels.

LOL hamster youre telling the world, a BL product is more realiable than a Japanese car LOLOL , nearly choked down my hot coffee in one when i read that.
bikersrule07 2 years ago
I will stand by exactly what I said before. You don't see the government running around helping Ford and Vauxhall because sales might have slipped. Why they gave a few million to Rover in the first place is beyond me. There are alot of people on here who think that Rover's were good cars and they probably are, but there are so much better products out there I'm afraid. Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Lexus etc, they all seem to be going well enough.
jsj24uk 4 years ago
Do u listen to clarkson , if u do then don't he no's nothing and Ford, etc r Forighen and each year now Rover is Gone our country loses £3B , thats y people wont get the pension. How many Have u owned they r beter than yr average BMW , and BMW OW its Success 2 times over to Rover. My Dad had a N Reg Rover 214 , and it never broke down,No Panel's come off and my uncle has a 07 Reg BMW 5 Series and its Diff Explosed and the I-Drive Computer has broke about 3 times and Bits have Come of.
hamster639 4 years ago
Clarkson, he has no influence over my opinions. It seems people are clutching at straws. I will only ever own Japanese cars as they are the most reliable you can get. The reason why I have never bought british is because the products are out-dated, badly made, and appaulingly unreliable. Stop remanicing and look at MG Rover as a business and its obvious it was doomed to fail. That's all I'm saying.
jsj24uk 4 years ago
Also my Dad had a Honda Accord and it broke down 6 Times and the Door Trim Fell Apart and Rusted and Got Scrapped plus 1 of the breakdown's was the cylinders Siezing up. They r not badely made or out of date, what they r is British Cars Made buy British Workers with british Money but now oh no Britain is Over No Industry is Left even the Red Arrows Planes r to be made in India.

ah yeah but i have owned nearly new vauxhall products of the late 70's early 80's and i can tell you that they were diabolically unreliable please believe me! toyota? can't speak for them but i really do'nt think that an early/mid 70's ford faired much better did it? The truht is that they were all crap whoever the manfacturer its just that technology has given us better cars today the same as television's surely ?
rodjames98 4 years ago
Lets be honest here, the products were not brilliant compared to the likes of Toyota, Ford, Vauxhall etc. There is also this reputation of Longbridge constantly on strike in the 70's etc. I would never have bought a Rover and as sad as it is for all those people who lost their jobs, it was ineveatable it would happen. You can't keep a company alive that sells overpriced rubbish. If it was good, it would still be here today. Business is business im afraid.
jsj24uk 4 years ago
Has anyone noticed that the Government will happily pour money into the pockets of those poor hard done by shareholders of Northern Rock (and here I mean the corporate bods - not the individual savers) Yet to save British jobs like Rover, Peugeot, Cadbury even - it's oh so much easier to just pick up the pieces afterwards instead! Napoleon was right - we are a Nation of Shopkeepers!
Stubcrouch 4 years ago
and when you look around at a nation without industry, is'nt it getting expensive to live here! taxation of the masses is the only way forward in an ailing nation, take Belgium as an example no industry, horrendous cost of living though! our banks are steadily decliling as well, which will happen in a shop with nothing to sell!
rodjames98 4 years ago
there is a more sinister side to all of this and i've been reading all of the comments here. If we are to become the 53rd state of america then we cannot have industry! we had an aircraft industry which was the pride of the world remember ? but took on the u.s counterpart and made serious inroads over there! we have been silently killed off, a european nation ? i think not, this once strong nation will adopt the dollar before it adopts the euro for certain! and thats why we have no industry.
rodjames98 4 years ago

The truth is that some of you know what you are talking about.
