I remember in 1999 or 2000 I had a class field trip to an Anime Convention in the Staples Center in LA and I got anime posters an Escaflowne post card and i go to try dried seaweed. GOOD TIMES 8)

Too damn bad the actual show, either version, isn't anywhere near as awesome as this intro makes it look.

The intro capitalizes on the shonen elements, but the actual show is just female romance garbage, which is just as objectionable to males as male romance garbage is to females.

I was first introduced to Escaflowne through the English dub.

As such I've always had a preference for this intro over the Japanese one.

Call it nostalgia if you like but I just prefer this version.

I don't remember this opening from when I was little when I watched the dub on YTV. Personally I like the song except for the deep voice at the end saying escaflowne. I'm not terribly fond on the visuals fr this opening either. I rewatched this dub when I was like 15 or something, a little in english and a little in japanese depending on whatever I could find. Now I'm watchig itagain with subs. To be honest I LOVE the japanese opening. This one isn't bad though.

The movie is called Escaflowne.

They aren't related in any way. The movie is like a retelling of the show but completely different at the same time.

all the japanese opening to most anime is songs that sony is trying to advertise that just started or new single albums to anime intro so it can gain popularity for the artists. either that or they sometimes make their own original opening with the voice actress singing the intro song.

I like this one quite a lot. use to watch it on channel 26 fox kids back in the 90s. it was probly one of the rare few animes being dub for the US back then along with pokemon n dragonball z. song fits the anime

While I do Prefer this music to that of the JP version, I find the intro cinematics for the JP intro to be more powerful in creating a more cryptic and mysterious story rather than an action packed one.

Music still rocks though.

@lilmizzy2008 Same lol. Tokyo Mew Mew (Or Mew Mew Power) is like Sailor Moon. As for Dragon Ball Z, there's two other shows that go with it, Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball GT. Never watched either though. I don't mean to sound lame but another show sort of like Sailor Moon is the Winx Club. I know I know! As for anime no made for kids, FMA, FMA Brothehood, Witch Hunter Robin, Inuyasha (the last two seasons suck. Just a warning), Avatar the last airbender, Ergo Proxy.

For movies there's anything by Studio Ghibli, The girl who leapt through time and 5 centimeters per second.

eeehh, i just went to listen to it, and NOT AT ALL! The english version I think is the best. Not the song is english, but they just picked really fantastic opening. But, you know what, maybe it's just a matter of what you were introduced with. As much as I like Maya Sakamoto and Yoko Kanno, I hated the original Escaflowne OP. First off, I have heard her sing better songs and it was a disappointment to hear her sing the Escaflowne OP, knowing the better songs she's song. The other point is that it did not fit the Japanese OP at all. At the very least, the American OP fit the OP animation AND has been stuck in my head for about a decade now.

I really don't mind this show's English cast as much as some other shows. I do prefer the Japanese cast in general, with the exception of Dilandau. I really like what his English VA does for him.

they tried to adapt this series for the "foxbox" back in the day, when I was just a kid

but then they got to that "graveyard" episode and van straight up cuts 2 dudes in half

I remember thinkin "umm, was that blood that just slpattered everywhere?"

and then the next week they just didn't play this series. They never played it again, whoever was supposed to edit it straight clucked up.

When Fox Kids aired it, it was a ratings failure and canceled after ten episodes. A shame too, because I thought it was a great show. I ended up purchasing the entire series boxed set and love it. =)

when i say it doesn't 'fit', i mean it doesn't supplement what the series is about... sure, escaflowne is a scifi/fantasy anime but the story is mainly about their 'fate' and how they're being manipulated by their own emotions. so the english intro just couldn't get that part, it just went straight to the battle scenes and the mecha...
