I am 65 and this series of books by Mary Norton, I first read at about 9 yrs old I think it was. She also wrote Bedknob and Broomstick (The original title, no "s" on the end). I thought the Americanised film was AWFUL! An absolute abomination, it ruined the whole ambience of the books. This BBC series is truly excellent, exactly like the books.
@Izannrocks The nasty housekeeper I think you mean? Mrs. Driver? She is no relation to the boy, simply the housekeeper, and employed by the boys great aunt Sophie, (who stays in bed in her room, because she is elderly and infim, but she likes a drop of Maderia wine!)
