  • Souvenir d'adolescence passée bien trop vite

  • best 2 top comments on youtube!

  • This was such a great era for music. Disco was dead. The tweeners hadn't become new-wavers yet. Even the cheesy synth, slow-dance songs like this were genius.

  • 44 have never loved anytime

  • Haunting but truly amazing....the intro is so deep yet so beautiful

  • The quality sound sooo old , sooo good <3

  • this must be a hommage to lennon who died in the same year this was written,no doubt about that.

  • sounds like the Chipmunks doing a cover of Beck.

  • i prefer baby d remix

  • Zucchero se li mangia!!

  • To Kenny. God gift you with alot of chrisma. Even for afew moments it's nice to be in your presence. I wish you so much love.

  • The Korgis hit #18 on Billboard Hot 100 on 12/27/80. Thanks for posting it! :)

  • Lovely song :)

  • Marc et Claude brought me here :)

  • I cannot believe a friend of mine had to pay somebody $5 for this song, and this is free on YouTube. Of course it was back in the 90s. Great song!

  • I can't dislike this version--but it is most definately running too slow. I have the original 45 vinyl, and their 'Best of --compilation CD. None of which run this slow. But good to hear.

  • Very nice song that I heard in 1980. What is sad for me is that I didn't know that my Daddy would die Twenty-eight years later. I was able to get to 46 years of age.

  • One of the great songs.

  • Love the original and personally, love Beck's even more. But absolutely hate that nicola chicks version.

  • this song brings me back to a great time

  • Nicola Robert's version led me here to the original. It's just and excellent song all around!

  • This song has just been covered by Nicola Roberts on her new album, Cinderella's Eyes. She does a good job with it tbh :)

  • Great song, that should have been bigger. So haunting it has that perfect early 80's feel.

  • the best of the best song ever, today is so fullshit

  • I like Beck's cover, but this version is outstanding! It's so calmly amazing and beautiful and touching. It turns my mood around.

  • straight to favs great memories from the past thanks,,,,

  • How can a cover be better than the original? Some idiot saaid that about the Pet Shop Boys version of Go west somehow failing to realise the Village People were singing on the back of it ......dohh

  • Thank you thank you thank you for posting this and it much more sublte and sublime version in an old world way.. I listened to this and realise Life is so precious and beautiful. That is what this song gives me. In appreciation.

  • Musically speaking, it sounds so depressing! ___ *sigh*

  • A classic Number !!

  • Beck's was an improvement, though I did like this version too.

  • @unopeneddoor You must hear the Zucchero's version, better at all.

  • Both are awesome!

  • @tarooqii absolutely the oposite of you... back after a horrible night... slightly down i feel... though i'm tripping to this beautiful tune at 5 am too... i think this world is shit, cuz i need her loving...

  • @jwul28 Don't give up...and if she wont... you will find someone else for you brother.

  • hey send me e-mail i love ur music i miss your music/

  • Contrary to popular opinion, I prefer Beck's rendition

  • @sterlingmrichards That's your given right! Who cares about popular opinion anyway? Although I happen to agree with it on this matter, you go and have a blast with the version you love best! Respect to different opinions and versions! :-) (I felt like saying this because of all the intolerance I recently ran into on YouTube. I thought I'd try and even it out with some positivity...)

  • ONE OF THE BEST MOST MEANINGFUL SONGS EVER WRITTEN !!!

    W O W

  • I was 13 years old lying in my bed after just listening to this song when I heard the news of John Lennon's passing. I was a huge Beatles fan and my world stopped for a moment and this song seared in as the song that tied it all together for me somehow.

In the last couple years I've been trying to find it again. I FINALLY heard this song again with Beck's version on Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and couldn't believe it.

Then found this. I'm still timewarped.

    Thanks for posting finfineau!!

  • @3gypt1an I remember. This song came out in fall of '80, just prior to Lennon's death. This song was still getting a lot of airplay at that time. It really stood out on the radio... quite unique because of its very ethereal, hypnotic sound. I suppose it will always be associated with Lennon's death......much in the same way as Enya's "Only Time" will always be associated with 9/11. It's fascinating the way songs will so often be temporally associated with and evoke past memories.....

  • Hello everybody I'm French and I sing this song, I wanted to know if my English accent is good thank you for your comment

  • Hello everybody I'm French and I sing this song, I wanted to know if my English accent is good thank you for your comment

  • I have a cover of this song in my profile too. Tottally diferent genre of music in my cover. I like this version more though...

  • this is the original song THX !

  • So beautiful!

  • Thank you for this. I started with Baby D's versino, then Beck and finally found the original.

  • I have heard this on local radio while working, and I could not resist this song from 1979 before....Change your heart...Just passing and thank you for sharing*

  • Big pimpin' spending cheese...

  • Version of Beck is berk! This IS the ONE!

  • My all time fave ;-)

  • i never ever ever ever learn, my name is a secret, but im inpotant big time, shut down all coastal nuclear reactors now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Such a beautiful song!

  • I'm french and I love this song. J need the opinion of an Englishman or an American. thank you.

  • heard this once when i was young, it never got away from me. goosebumps when i hear it. (that is what music is supposed to do i think)

  • Fantastic !! Good music never die!!

  • Beautiful, beautiful

  • How is such an obscure, 30 year old song getting so much recognition on Youtube?

  • @Reactiv12 Because it's pretty darn good??

  • @Reactiv12 i know a modified/cover song of this was in the soundtrack of "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" but the recent comments seem to just be dedicated followers

  • hello I'm french and as many french I adore this song, everybody's go to learn sometime. I filmed myself singing this song and I like to have the advice of an English pronunciation to see if the song is ok, thank you for giving me your opinion.

  • 5 mars 1980 , very good je chante cette version : everybody's go to learn something in french version :)

  • My english is bad. Loll je chante cette version : everybody's go to learn something in french version :)

  • 37 people with no hearts.

  • ETERNO RESPLANDOR DE UNA MENTE SIN RECUERDO.

  • i like this version so much better. actually, ESPECIALLY since your timing is messed on on it and it sounds a bit warped. i feel like it adds character to the recording. what did you record it from vinyl or cassette or something? if its vinyl please let me know i will totally start searching for this version on vinyl! :)

  • @lonelywolfy

( sorry if i didnt reply, but youtube was sending mail to my unused gmail account )

i recorded it from a sort of MTV channel.

I read somewhere that some music videos were filmed on 35mm or even 16mm film

i suspect they had trouble when converting it to video, and that would explain the speed variations.

But .... me too i prefer this warped version :)

if you google for "download youtube audio" you can find ways to get the soundtrack as an mp3

  • @lonelywolfy

Your video plus your comment about ' a bit warped' equals a real Style.

I thank you for the enjoyment you've brought

  • listen: Everybody's got to learn sometime from Marvin Gardens (iTunes, Amazom MP3,...)

or take a look: Teddy Riley´s Song "My body and my soul" from Marvin Mardens

  • @lonelywolfy reaaly beck???? its so gret you know?

  • Simply beautiful..

  • benim için gerçek bir klasik her zaman kalbimde saklayacağım

  • This song, together with 'Drive' by the Cars are the most moving songs from the 1980s.

  • Wanna hear an even chilling version of this song. Search up the fields cover of this.

  • I simply love this haunting beautiful song. It came out at a bleak, harsh time in my life....

Loneliness, isolation, hostility and the struggle for survival.

  • Song For Suicide People

  • the original ist the best!

    fantastic song.

  • thank you!

    namaste.

  • The entire video was shown on vintage tv on sky tonight, retro music channel which has been going for a few months.First time I had ever seen it.

  • I forgot which cover of this song I heard before but its been haunting my brain all these years. I just love it to bits

  • Said it before and will say it again!!! love people for today as 2moro they may not be here!!!

  • Personally I think Beck puts alot more soul into this song, and his voice provides a wonderful haunting quality to it.

  • I haven't heard this in years. Damn Awesome!!!! Now I can listen to it anytime now!!!!!!!!!!! Damn!!!!!!

  • Every Politician MUST LEARN ALL THE TIME

  • Glasvegas does a killer version of this.

  • This came out about the same time as John Lennon's "Double Fantasy" album. I thought this was a new Lennon song.

  • @dhloup1 I even thought he was John Lennon at first sight!!!!!

  • This video which displays an image every 5 seconds is very artistic; it captures the pensive mood wonderfully for me with the slow movement from one dark frame to the next. It's hard to believe it's an accidental consequence of the technology available at the time.

  • I love this song the best that were made in the late 80s and early 90s.pero I have a question: I read that this song is Casanovy and I want to know the original version:this or Casanovy.5 stars¡¡.Sometimes we learn things sometimes

  • @VectorFanGT

    search youtube for +lovin+casanovy

Casanovy seems to be a remix, using Korgis sound clips.

the original is Korgis , they made two versions, one in 1980 one in 1990

wikipedia has lots of details about Korgis

  • @VectorFanGT this song is 1979.... -.-

  • @VectorFanGT me too <3 <3 <3

  • Listen to this composers compositions Henryk Gorecki. Pathos and darkness pervades the compositions in the textures of the stringed instruments, these have been transfered to this Korgis song.

  • I always liked the Korgis version; melancholy, yet uplifting throughout. Beck version seems detached in places, and progressions to major chords dropped the mood for me. (Beck version has nice backing vocals and sound textures, though). Some see the dated nature of the Korgi synth as detrimental, but not me: it captured the dark side of that era like Nik Kershaw's "Wouldn't it be Good". Song also reminds me of Moody Blues "Watching and Waiting."

  • This would make a great break-up song. It could take you down to the depths you want to go to, but give you the peace at the same time.

  • this song was a big hit around the fall of 1980, it reminded me of the Beatles, Then I was wondering where John Lennon was haven't herd from him in awhile, then john and yoko's Double Fantasy came out maybe Nov '80 then soon after Lennon was gone

    Precioso video, felicidades

    Saludos

  • I love this song. I especially love the degraded quality of this recording, too; it gives it an extra layer of warmth that I greatly appreciate in analog recording. <3

  • Its a very hard thing to do "changing your heart"!

  • Há muitos anos ouço esta música e ela me leva a várias reflexões sobre a vida. Ela é realmente profunda e forte.

  • This song is absolutely gorgeous. It must be preserved. It comes from beyond.

  • I need your loving like the sunshine

  • The Purpose of Life for Human Being

For the True Human Beings on Universes!

The supreme essence of Life for a TRUE HUMAN BEING,

On this planet as well in any other place on Universes

    Is to evolve...for the good,

    To build instead to destroy,

To live in peace instead on war,

    To love instead to hate,

  • @JavierVMaldonado

To generous sharing his wisdom instead to be greedy-and-selfish person,

To give human compassion and help to the needed living beings,

Instead to destroy nor exploit them.

To develop in a True Love Human Conscience State.

In a positive and balance harmony with

The eternal and mighty-powerful Laws of the Creation

    And

To grow along with his Human-Creation Conscience or Spirit Power.

  • @JavierVMaldonado Man or woman never should take suicide Nor depraved or vilely killing other living beings, Because these wrong-doings will cause him to set back Because these negative and wrong actions will cause way back out for His or her own and real human progress of evolution, fate and wellbeing. The Man has been created to help His surrounded living beings and planet/material Universe. Sincerely yours, Javier
  • One of the best songs from the 80's....Love it

  • The younger generation needs music like this. I think this song applies to many.

  • Jelly, its a remarkable song, that just throws haunting melodies at you,and just when you think it cant get any more stunning we are introduced to those two wonderful notes at 1.56.Its like a call from the past,a breathtaking statement of something that cant be described.

  • Everybody 's got...to learn sometime.

But I am sick of inhabitants of " the lazy systematics"...

who only understand the first thing after 27 years of fighting back their poor judgements being nothing but unprofessional inhuman, macho selfinvolved "weird stuff"!

  • sutilment encantadora

  • the guitar sounds like Roxy Music..

  • This song matches the film Eternal Sunshine so perfectly -always sends shivers down my spine -i think it means we mustn`t take life/those we love for granted and only realise this once they have gone. It preaches live for the moment. I absolutely love it and never tire of hearing it.

  • For me, this song speaks to those rare moments when we realize the futility of pushing and kicking our way through life and that we need to let ourselves be pulled for awhile. Changing your heart can do that..

  • this is a good song the words are so real:) peace

  • In Ireland, this song is on an Advert when a drunk driver Kill's two young girl's and when he's in Jail this song play's, The dude's behind bar's and it play's Everybody's gotta learn Sometime ....

  • @IrishAce1000 That would be a brilliant commercial to show here in the USA! Drunk Driving is a massive problem here:((

    Danny Jimenez

    aka Numanoid17

  • this song sounds much better a little slower like this, def. my favourite version so far

  • have always loved this song. for some reason been in my head for days, so decided to look it up. didn't know there were sooo many versions. no matter who does it, so poignant a song!

  • I wd just describe this song as very 'unsual' but it touches a chord in you.. sad/sombre and reflective too are other words i'd use to describe it.... it's not 'creepy' tho...

  • Yes there is something very strange about this song. I suffer from a bit of a mental

condition where I get strange thoughts about some songs, books and films and this is one of those songs. This song is coming from the great beyond. It is creepy,

    strange and profound.

  • @jellydonut456

note that elsewhere in youtube there is (was?) a full-motion (original) version of this video, also the audio speed is better than in my version. In that other version we can see many black cats wandering, and some people, i think a girl with an umbrella. Maybe somewhere on the net is an interview where they explain the origins of the song which may make it a bit less creepy :)

  • @finfineau That was very thoughtful of you, class.

  • @jellydonut456 im sorry to intrude but im sort of interested in these thoughts. do you care to share?

  • @jellydonut456 This is not necessarily a love song, and you are right about ''suffer from a mental'', the statement is unfinished, therefore you are implying if one is troubled, like me or you or anybody else, you will feel a sense of comfort from it. And it doesn't surprise me as I find it reasuring that emotions are like an internal weather one day you will feel downtrodden and sad, the next you will feel alive. I am not sure if there is a cryptic message in this song, but it is haunting.

  • @jellydonut456 I loved the song since I first heard it. Maybe it could be mean there is so much chaos in this world. It didn't seem as clear back then but that's the message I seem to get. Nostradamus told us it's how we decide how the world is to change for better or for worse. It is very haunting but I truly love this song

  • @jellydonut456 I loved the song since I first heard it. Maybe it could be mean there is so much chaos in this world. It didn't seem as clear back then but that's the message I seem to get. I get these feelings too.

  • My god, kcaj there really is someone else like me. You have described my feelings and likes exactly! Love that really early morning time, with the right music! Better than drugs!

  • This is a song you listen to when you have to stop and think where you stand in your life...I feel sadness but also at the same time relief... a very powerful song...love it!

  • @FUGHI - Try listen to Cat Power - The Greatest, I think these two songs are a little alike :-)..

  • i kinda like the way the shotty quality makes it sound

  • @Staralfurz yeah, it probably sounds good like this because this is the way we heard it on our radios back in the day. What a coincidence that when all the static and LP scratches got removed from our lives, so did much of the musical talent.

  • Very evocative song. When I was 15 years old i was dumped by a girlfriend. I went home, heard this on the radio, and cried my eyes out. I'm 46 now but still remember that moment vividly. Yes, i'm a sad bastard!

  • esta canción me hipnotiza

    genial !!!

  • This song reminds me old days of deep sadness... I've been haunted by this song since the year 2000, it would be too long to explain. Strange to read the feelings of different people about this song, they all share some similarity.

  • j'me lasse pas de l'écouter

  • Just checking the ARC top pop songs for the years 1980 I ran across this song and thought the title did not ring a bell. After finding it here, I did remember it and it is a haunting song to say the least. It peaked at 14 on the American ARC charts. Nice finding this rare gem.

  • Gracias por poner esta canción!!! Leíiitoooo!!!

  • Without doubt the greatest One Hit Wonder of all time. And simply one of the best pop songs ever written.

  • @DCSIGNR The Korgis weren't a one hit wonder, this as actually their second hit - their first, "If I Had You", had already broken them into the Top 20 just over a year earlier

  • @DaveDaRave1980 Thanks very much for the update. I heard "If I Had You" on a compilation CD but didn't realise it made the charts. Neat little song and good use of sincere 50s style. Very understated band, the Korgis. Wish they'd done more.

  • Que música arrepiante!

  • @kcaj789 - I thought I was the only one that felt this way - I agree, fascinating and provoking deep emotions/thoughts - sad, inspirational all at once. Funny how a song can make you feel this way. It's somewhat special to me also, because I recall when it was on the top 10/20, I was in Manhattan for really the first time for an art gallery field trip, and remember that every store etc we went in, this was playing. So this makes me think of Manhattan!

  • beautiful song, really very haunting.

  • Magic. Every version of this song is good, simply cause the song is a little masterpiece. But This one is the best.

  • Gos, this is amazing!

  • My Godness ... so happy to know this song ... I was 5 year old :-)

  • And this, and the video has vanished.. love it

  • one of the most tuneful bands ever

  • that song remembered me Air's Playground Love

  • mesmerizing song...=)
