If ya a clash fan we have just put up an acoustic cover version on the 21/8/10 in tribute to Joe who would have been 58 on this day : ) check out: lost in the supermarket (cover) The Awesome Puss Puss Band! Hope the info helps : )
one of my favorite songs wish there was a video posted, but really, thanks for this. cant tell you how many times I saw them (every nyc concert, including joe strummer post clash. rip joe i miss you.
i've seen hundreds and hundreds of concerts over several decades. the clash among the top five (especially their Bonds many-day gig)
Boys, i was at this concert. My first concert in my life, i was 13 years old.
the magestic theater, san antonio texas.
i walked out, looked at my friends and said, "i know this is the first concert Iv'e ever been to, but ,,,,,,,,thats the best concert im ever going to see."
People who make videos for this song need to lose their obsession with having the video in an actual supermarket. The song is much deeper than that... It isn't necessarily about supermarkets at all.
I like this recording of the song-- the Clash were one of very few bands whose live performances sound as good as the studio ones. Too bad I never got to see them live.
@BBulletin what is it supposed to be about? I'm guessing you are going to go into some deep stuff about it being about a parody of consumerism and stuff.
I don't agree. This song was witten for all those who hate the supermarket, having to choose between 7 types of different olive oil balacin price and expected quality aginst each other.
@BBulletin what they need to figure out is it's a song about depersonalization. Instead of making a video about the horror of the way we look through people and ignore each other and the huge cones of vacuum around us, they make happy videos about having their heads up their asses in the supermarket. To the tune of a song that's about waking up in the middle of a store one day and realizing you're surrounded by bullshit.
@BBulletin The Clash did sometimes sound much better live than on record, and then again they sounded really terrible live too, from time to time. They were a band who took chances live, which pays off, the result can be fantastic, but you can also turn everything into to a disaster. Which seems like a price they were willing to pay and we shoudl be thankful for it.
@BBulletin Rite .....but some very very few bands sounded better live : Black Sabbath, the Damned, the mighty Stevie Marriott's Humble Pie, The Stooges ........
@BBulletin agreed...i posted a video on my cooking website of a video of people in a supermarket but that's just cus it's a cooking website other then that i agree with you.
@BBulletin the supermarket videos are funny, The Clash's only fault was that they were too serious I bet if they could do it again they'd have more fun with everything.
One of my favorite songs, not just by The Clash but of all time. A better tune than one might think, it can actually stand on its own as an instrumental. Name one more song by a punk rock group, or any rock group for that matter, that stands that kind of test!
bloody rock/punk classic.
tell that to LMFAO and other such losers.

Just kidding! I never saw the Clash, but have grown to love them in the last few years. They were something special. Paul was no frontman!

Paul may not have been a front man per se but dammit, he was the coolest guy I've ever seen on stage. If I could look half as cool when I play...

@BBulletin ...how about this? you need to stop bashing another's creative expression regardless of how mundane it seems to be.

@sitonmyshamrock Not so much bashing as trying to get people to look beyond the surface. Of course, if want just the superficial, go for it!
