@NemeanLion My top 3 defensive masters of all time. Whitikar, Pep, and Loche. Their defense was so aggressive it was practially an offense. Honorable mention 1980s Mike Tyson. Way more defensive minded than people gave him credit for. I almost wish Tysin didnt that big punch b/c I think he relied on that and let his boxing skills fall off by the wayside.. Mayweather and Wright arent on the list although their defense is supreme I wouldn't say it was an aggressive defense.

Whitaker couldn't possibly have hurt Mayweather. The fight most likely would go to decision, and I have to give Mayweather the nod on this one.

I hate black people. As much bullshit as we say about them, deep in our hearts, we know, they are the best at damn near everything. From revolutionizing open heart surgery (Vivian Thomas) to straight beating peoples asses (from Jack Johnson to Ali to PBF and all the great black fighters in between). Damn, I had no idea, and I've sen the Jones fight multiple times. Just never came across any version of it that had any of that "pre-fight" stuff in it. Thanks for sharing.

@TheBringer2009 Phenomenal vid ... truly. Pernell's my 2nd favorite fighter of all time (behind James Toney). I'd have put his landmark fights in there though: e.g., his rematch vs. Ramirez ... he did some defensive wizardry in that fight; his 526 punch slaughter of Santos Cardona could've been a highlight in and of itself; when he knocked Wilfredo Rivera on his ass with the sweetest counter shot he's thrown; the Azumah Nelson fight and, of course, the Chavez virtuoso display he put on.

@mikecee907 To me Mayweather is a better boxer than Whitaker. Look at the knockout percentage. Whitaker didn't knock out that many people. Don't be fooled by a highlight video that only shows knockouts. Pernell Whitaker had a 36.96% knockout rating (according to Boxrec) compared to 62.5 for Mayweather. Whitaker couldn't possibly have hurt Mayweather. The fight most likely would go to decision, and I have to give Mayweather the nod on this one.

So, if you're black like i am, understand our history, & don't embrace what we were called, then we can change the last two letters & call ourselves that. i was thinking the same thing. i mean lets get real pernell had what? 17 KO's i believe. he was great n 1 of the best defensive fighters i ever saw. i had a respectfull hatred of sweet pea, he always kicked the shit out of the fighters i liked. thats why i hated him! gtta give it 2 him thgh...he was something!

pacquaio doesnt belong in the same sentence as the all-time legends... yet. its crazy how he has only been a top fighter for about 2 years and people are comparing him to champs who reigned for a decade or more. thats disrespectful to their great legacy.
for example, bernard hopkins held his middleweight belt for 10 years and defended it 20 times without a loss. manny just moved up from featherweight in 08.
if pacman keeps up his dominance for 4-5 more years then its fair to compare

@blacksheep, yes is would be entertaining, manny is exciting to watch. but his style would leave him open to huge amounts of damage from pernell. he would lose on points
you must not have been following floyd very long. you dont get 25 knock out by running. go back and really watch him fight and stop listening to what commentators and pacman fans are saying, its just not true. most of those guys just recently got into boxing. he does whatever it takes to win a fight and thats what matters

theyre both really good defensive fighters. hell, i trained as a defensive fighter too, i kno what goes in their mind. and i gotta admit PBF got skills (my opinion is PBF on point vs. MP, sad but its a HUGE possibility)
and yeah, i kno MP's susceptible to counters, just take that fight with JMM. he was basically gettin schooled all nite.
but hell, MP will never give up. his heart takes the cake
