Very true. In the '50s and '60s, "Made In Japan" was something that people scoffed at. Nowadays, if something is made in Japan, it is the highest quality available. Ask any professional photographer... they will tell you that lenses and camera bodies made in Japan are the best, and the ones being made nowadays in China and Vietnam are not as good, but getting better every day. America hasn't made a professional camera since the 1950s. Soon it will be the same situation with cars.

He saw waste, poor management, lousy lazy stoned workers, nasty quality, and a company that had the chance to make a better product but decided to have planned obsolescense instead. He saw it coming 30 yrs ago. He decided to buy Honda from 1975 until his death. The big three took too long to change with the competition. Now they are in this crisis.

I wish the auto workers the best of luck. it's gonna be tough though. they need to make cheaper cars. not at the exspense of workers paychecks but of the car it self. i always buy cars from people used with no loan. and i gotta tell ya if you do it right you can find something that runs good, last a long time, and you don't have to spend years paying it off. i'd be willing to buy something new if the price was around seven grand or so.

Here in the UK we dont have any National British Car Producers, apart from some tiny ones, so we cannot get all Patriotic like you Americans. You yanks, you still don't get it... It is all about fuel efficiency, fuel consumption and reliability - not power and stupid cowboy look. (Yeah J.D. Power, most of the top rated cars in these categories are... European or Japanese, no wonder). The rest of the world took head to head the fuel efficiency problem in the 70's when we were not allowed to drive on weekends during the oil crises. But Americans like to drive big cars, big Hummers and go to Iraq so they can fill their huge tanks.

So it is a small percentage of all the cars on the road in Europe. By the way these cars have horsepower indeed but with more efficient consumption rates and running costs than American power cars. we don't have the money bail out anybody. if the govt is running a deficit, then the "money" they get to loan is printed out of thin air. it reduces the value our currency. we cant keep these prices high. toyota & honda are smart; employees they arent overpaid like the UAW. GM MUST make at least 50% of its output low-consumption EVs and hybrids. and NO imports, GM can't rebadge daewoo and daihatsu cars.

Take the bailout money offer it to the American people as interest free car loans for people who want to buy American. The people get cheap cars (hopefully fuel efficient ones) the auto workers keep working, and taxpayers don't foot the bill. I think it's a better solution than a taxpayer funded bailout.

Very true. In the '50s and '60s, "Made In Japan" was something that people scoffed at. Nowadays, if something is made in Japan, it is the highest quality available. Ask any professional photographer... they will tell you that lenses and camera bodies made in Japan are the best, and the ones being made nowadays in China and Vietnam are not as good, but getting better every day. America hasn't made a professional camera since the 1950s. Soon it will be the same situation with cars.

My dad worked for GM for 36 yrs and in the 70s came home with an opinion that GM was doomed. He saw waste, poor management, lousy lazy stoned workers, nasty quality, and a company that had the chance to make a better product but decided to have planned obsolescense instead. He saw it coming 30 yrs ago. He decided to buy Honda from 1975 until his death. The big three took too long to change with the competition. Now they are in this crisis.
