It is true that the song was made when Russia where still a Czarist Empire but like many other Imperial Russian Songs it was later used by the USSR and other groups including resistance groups in german-occupied Poland and in 1945 a hebrew version was made by singer/songwriter Haim Hefer for the Palmach which was part of the Jewish Resistance Groups in the Mandate of Palestine.

The Red Army would have won sooner or later regardless of who would have led the Axis coalition forces. The truth is that German Intelligence woefully underestimated the power of the Soviet Union and it´s ability to regroup after the initial disasters. Operation Barbarossa was a horrible idea since the Red Army was stronger then all the forces it faced combined.

I haven´t claimed that the USSR was more advanced then Germany but they where definatly stronger. The T-34 was a perfectly crafted rugged killing machine designed to be mass produced, easy to maintain and use. Out of all German Panzers only the Panther was better overall in performance but couldn´t be produced in sufficent numbers. The Tiger was fearsome but prone to malfunction and where impossible to maintain in field.
