If you think about it on a linguistic level in terms of meaning, using "ga" instead of "wa" speaks more to God as a concept than as a being. Nietzsche's words are not literal. He meant that, since Christian values are entirely based around the belief that God exists. If you don't, then the whole thing falls apart, and a system of morality as fragile as that is hardly worthy of being called a system of morality, and its practitioners hardly worthy of being called moral.

@IAmTheStein わ is a topic marker, が is a subject marker. が is used when something has just been noticed. It could also be used to emphasize something "God, is the one who is dead.". わ is mainly used when setting a topic or contrasting something. (I do this but I do not do that)

I am suprised as to how many western people watch this. Traditional Japanese anime consist of many symbolism which includes various Japanese tradition. Very different from Western simple slap stick comedy in cartoons.

Conti... After Mai hit Yukko with a paper, the word flies away. The character is "Gu" in Kanji but not used in the word for Rock which in case is "Gu". It is hard to explain but there are many Japanese characters with same pronounciation but with different characters depending on the subject matter and sometimes what characters comes before or after it. And the God is Dead is meant to be a joke as "no hope" in the situation. Not literally God is dead.

I will explain, When playing Rock-Scissor-Paper, rather than saying 1,2,3 shoot. Japanese has a first throw as a rock. Which translate to "Saishowa Gu" meaning Very first is a rock. The game they are playing is a Janken (Rock-scissor-paper) Challenge. When you lose, you have to quickly defend yourself by shielding from your opponent's hit. But in this case, Mai-chan did not follow the rules at all. She hit her when Yukko was saying "Saishowa Gu".
