  • but will it blend?

  • Now he can wear the badge

  • how much is it wort??

prpbly less than before it got scratched by the professors pencil :D

  • when he's talking about palladium, did he mean cold fusion?

  • mabey 1 day the Professor might be the Royal Society of Chemistry's president!

if u get nominated u know all us utubers got ur back =-]

  • why are there 13?

  • @blueduderanch Maybe there's some fascinating chemical explanation for having 13 metals, but as an artist my answer would be: because it looked good with the hexagon! :D There's 12 spokes, one for each face and vertex of the benzene. And then the gold rim is the 13th metal. To keep it nicely geometric and symmetrical you'd have to jump to perhaps 18 spokes (1 per vetex, 2 per face?) and maybe there were not enough relatively stable and safe metals to fill that out.

  • @themomaw possibly, thanks for the reply :)

  • watchin all your videos when takin breaks from studying for my AP chem class :P

  • Um...WHY is the Professor NOT the President??!!!!

  • Niobium tin is extremely important!!! it's a super conductor that's being used in the LHC!

  • I am ready to buy your DVD when it comes out

  • THAT, is a HUGE coat!

  • OOoooo, I want to dig into all those old journals and stuff in that vault! The medallion was nice and interesting, but I want to find out about the books that are so old and special that they get kept in a vault!

  • Don't mess with the fro'

  • aaah yes.. scratching a £1 pen on a priceless medal. great idea...

  • very interesting, and in the town i live in in south west england, there is a section of river called doctors pond, which is were he discovered oxygen in water

  • I remember from high school chemistry that when different kinds of metals are in contact with each others, it creates an electrical potential difference that will cause some kind of chemical reaction that eventually lead to corrosion to the metals. Do they have to worry about this medal crumbling over time just because of the metal to metal contact. Please explain the answer yes or no in terms of chemistry.

  • If they are kept dry it isn't a problem.

  • I love your hair lol

  • This is one thing that Mr T does not have around his neck!

  • gtfo of here

  • cool tie

  • I miss osmium though

  • afro hair ftw!

  • How much do you think this medal costs? Anyone here can imagine?

I think its more than 1 million euros, i'd like to use.

  • Anyone else think this guy could make a 4th back to the future ? He's awesome XD

  • @CitizenErased2007 hahahahahahahaha

  • Wow, iridium

    Molybdenium, rodhdium

Omg he should take the stupid Nickel off and put Osmium.

    Would be the dream medal.

  • How do you get that kind of hair? It's awesome!

  • stick your tongue in a electrical outlet and you too will have that hair

  • In 1978, in San Antonio, Texas I was bludgeoned to death with that very medal. Needless to say i got better.

  • His voice is cool

  • you are awesome i love these vids :)

  • My science teacher and I love your videos!! u guys Rock!

  • What type of metal are dental braces made from?

  • francium lol thats y you dont shower with them i dink

  • but francium is radioactive

  • stainless steel

  • Do u have a dvd series for ur vids, cuz it would be helpful to some schools like mine to be granted with the kind of knowledge u share on youtube today

  • we are making one which will be available very soon. details will be posted on website (link in the more info section)

  • Hi! I've seen many of the videos. They'r very informative and easy to understand. There is just one thing I could never understand. How does the Professor manage to have such a nice hair? I wanna do the same haircut. Any advices?

  • @periodicvideos That would be something I would buy :P

  • @periodicvideos still waiting

  • A Big thanks from Iceland. I love your videos. Respect.

  • absolutely fascinating. seriously, I love your videos!

    5/5

  • Nice jacket, prof! =D

  • The professor reminds me of Einstein. I wonder why?

  • his voice is relaxing.

  • I love his coat and scarf! :D

  • thank you!

  • whenever I watch professor Polyakoff talk, I feel like hugging him. Am I ill?

  • yes, with love. we all have the same illness!

  • These videos always make me wistfully recall my former life as a chemistry undergrad. The medal itself is quite nice.

Initially I was surprised by the disarray of the vault and that the medal wasn't on display. But then I remembered that we were dealing with chemists here, and that life outside of the lab doesn't need much organization.

  • hah funny ending

  • I'll never get tired of this guy's eccentricity, look at that hair!

  • lol we learned in Chem about using nickel to catalyze hydrogenation today :)

  • what a sexy lether jacket... i love "the professor"! He should have his own television show :)

  • Did you notice how many times we did not see the medal in shot? I am sure that the Professor now has the real one and is one step closer to world domination! Oh why did you ever let him out of his office? We're all doomed, doomed I say!

  • Been watching nearly all ur videos, they are great!

    Greetings from Singapore!

  • "nearly all"?

which ones are you skipping!? :)

  • @periodicvideos

i've whatched "only" nealy all, because i dont have that much time at the moment, but i will whatch them all i think ^^

    greeting from germany

  • You should be on the bbc. Always enjoy your vids

  • Put it on PBS in the states. There is a science channel but since I moved I don't get it with my cable anymore. There needs to be more science on television.

  • they should make a series of these videos and out them on public television it would be nice if they did

  • yea that would be AWESOME!

  • That would be cool. He should try to make some dvds or something and market them to school teachers.

  • this medal is worth over 9000! ok my guess is $62 000 Canadian

  • aka $75,000 USD

  • oh if I ever saw the professor walking around I would be SO EXCITED!

  • Rainey Nickel! We're learning about that in Chemistry at the moment :)

    Very interesting video.

  • this videos are sooooooo interesting :)

    greets from germany

  • Do you actually know the price Brady?

  • of course!

  • one of your GREATER shows

  • Well the actual value of the materials you could probably guess, but then you have it's historical value as well...

  • love his hair

  • Why is the cameraman acting like a douche?

  • The material itself should be worth around 1500 Euro I'd say, of course the real value is much higher because of the producing costs and what it represents :)

  • The Professor is one of my idols and he makes me want to become a chemist even more. The fact that he can name uses for most of those metals (what looked to be off the top of his head) is flabbergasting.

As for the price of the medal, I'd have to guess around 25,000 pounds ($61,000 CDN)

  • Not sure where you got that exchange rate.. 25,000 GBP is actually less than 45,000 CAD, or about 36,000 USD.

  • Thanks for the video. Interesting medal.

  • It's like one of those cool 80's kids show medals ! The Mysterious cities of gold or Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors....

You may have to fight an evil army of creationists rather than the Monster Minds though...

  • £100,000.

  • 7500 pounds!

  • What's it worth????? We have to know now!!!

  • Let's hear a few guesses first!

  • I'm going for £5000.00. 3k for materials, 1k for making it and 1k for rareity factor.

If I'm right can I have a copy made in my honor?

  • very interesting

  • Only chemists could create a medal that fwonderfully geeky.

  • Always excited to visit your site and see another new video. Do will soon need to develop a cure for us addicts. This is fabulous I learned alot from it and purple is my favourite colour. I hope the professor wasn't locked in for too long. Thanks again! ;¬)

  • Wow..

  • the 1980's reference without so many words was cold fusion :)

  • these are always so fascinating! Long live the intarwebs and PeriodicVideos!

  • heck yes!

  • LOL that periodic table tie again~

  • Bling, bling!

  • I think the Professors hair should be chemically analysed and the results posted in a video. :)

  • His hair is awesome :D, he looks like he has so much energy :)

  • I agree, he has the follicle equivalent of a plasma globe. :D

  • Haha, very true! :p

  • Thanks for your comment. Most of our videos are done from memory. Makes it more fun. Keep enjoying chemistry!

  • mmmm Benzene

  • awesome!

  • Comment removed

  • That was funny and very interesting. Always a pleasure!

  • Thank you.... Got a few more good vids planned for the next few weeks so stay tuned!

  • niobium is used in superconducting compounds. It has the highest superconducting transition temperature of any pure metal. Ni3Sn has a transition temperature that is 3 times higher.

  • each metal has a defence wave lenth

the problem is ther to close together

    for any scanering to tell

which is which unless thay and nidel point rod huck up to scaner device

  • let the professor out of the vault! ^^

  • Which metal is more valuable than platinum?

  • Alot... Platinum is just the most expensive of the more "abundant" elements found on earth.

  • Rhodium, and I think even iridium, cost more, per ounce, than platinum. Both are used frequently in alloy or plating form for jewelry and electronics. My wedding band contains some white gold that is made by alloying gold and iridium.

  • platinum dropped in price recently, drastically

  • Great video of the professor meddling with someone else's metal medal.

  • And showing quite a bit of mettle.

  • Not gonna lie, If I had the money I would be considering U of Nottingham for my chem degree.

  • Hi! Being a student at Nottingham is no more expensive than at any other UK university and the School of Chemistry is ranked No 2 in the UK.

  • It isn't quite that way to some twat in the states.

  • Comment removed

  • he should get his hair in dreads

  • Lock him up! He is taking the Rhodium!

  • This is the second Professor roadtrip that I've seen, and in both you showed a brief scene of him rising up from the underground. I hope you'll continue to include that feature because it produces the mysterious and dark impression of the Professor perpetually lurking about in deep caverns conducting experiments, and perhaps mining exotic minerals and elements....

  • so how much was it worth then?

  • this proffesor better get a medal like that or there will be riots!

  • "Like Alice in wonderland"

    Martyn ftw!

  • That's one interesting medal. Though the video title doesn't exactly roll off the tounge. Though it is fun to say.

  • dont get it

  • Nice Metal medal.

  • I hate people that shout "Second!" on the second comment, so can I shout "Helium!" instead?

  • No, you can't.

  • I believe I just did.

  • I disagree. I think what you "just did" was ask a question. I answered that question for reasons that will remain my own. What you didn't do was to simply post the word "helium" as you stated in your original question.

  • Damn, you're just as bloody pedantic as I imagine other people think I am. Hold on, let me get this right then.

  • Hehe, good work sir.

    Respect.

  • Helium.

  • YAY MARTYN we love your hair and nice medal
