I really appreciate this video. You were saying drawing from the shoulder first limits you. And your SO right. That's how I draw but now I see a way that makes more sense. So thank you for your help.
Your drawing technique Videos are great! Especially this Episode (11). It have given me new inspiration on how to go on any object creation. Something is Exactly what i hoped to find here. For this now you got 1 Million Points from me :)
wow this i great, everything you said I completely understand because I did it that way. This is great and very informative, really an eye opener. Thank you so much.
I've hit a wall in my learning process and after hours of trying to figure it out, I started to define the planes to build up my figures from. If I had sen your videos earlier it would have saved so much time !
Personally I find that when I do drawings , I start at one point and do all the detail there , then I lose out on the planning etc. as i'm trying to get it all to match if you know what I mean .
Yea, I always start from the head first, then shoulders etc. and get stuck with certain poses cause things don't add up, I always find my way around it in the end but the way you've explained about the branching out method and stuff helped out heaps, I think I'll try out your way, it makes a lot of sense.
these tutorials are very helpful.. u don't know it till u start using it.. i watched the vids a long time ago and i see that applying them on my drawings did show improvement .. it is kind of funny but it does work well , i do draw sometimes starting from a hand or a foot and it works well..Thanx a lot ..^____^
I suggest beginners to do studies of simple shapes first before moving onto the constructions of simple shapes to represent human body.
Draw cube, cylinder, etc with a single light source hitting on it. Draw it in any angles, try different light source angle. When you feel good about drawing that. Moving onto constructions for figure drawing.
thank you so very much Mr.Chong, i am 13 and igot in to the drawing industry so to speak and im having trouble but no i feel more confident on drawing people thanks again
As I watch this I'm thinking about all of those mistakes I've made in my drawings. Especially since I branch out from the head all the time. This makes a lot more sense, and is definitely going to be of help. Even made me laugh at myself for the amateurism I've been practicing. This will definitely be of help to me. Glad I found this video, thank you! :D
Thank you for your kind words! Even my own approach isn't flawless -- I'm constantly finding different ways to go about solving things. There's never a single approach that works ALL the time, so always be skeptical of EVERY approach. Try them, and see how they can be improved!
Mark Chong, excellent tutorial! I have read through and seen many drawing tutorials but they aren't insightful. I have always started with a head then extending the spinal cord (or line of action) from it but i was always skeptic about this approach because my drawings never come out exactly as it should. I am very thankful for your lessons. Take care!

I like what you do with the construction of boxes. That technique helps me see the human anatomy in a more shapely form than circles and curves.
