his versions of Beat It and Bad (Eat It and Fat) were affectionate send-ups authorized by M.J. himself; they made Yankovic’s career, and the latter garnered him a Grammy Award.
M.J.’s sense of humour remains underrated — who else but an inveterate prankster would call his child Blanket?
The third in Yankovic’s proposed obese-MJ trilogy, Snack All Night, was nixed when Jackson felt that his original, Black and White, expressed sentiments that were too important to trifle with.
@83bubble MJ was a dreadfully sick individual. NO sane person would call their kid "Blanket". You people are in denial about who michael really was. Not a healthy person. Sad.
I love this - I know MJ didn't want the song parodied...but Weird Al isn't making fun of the song's message...he's just using the tune and sound to make another lyrics and song - about snacknig all nite - Wierd al is fab!
As much as i love mj,i agree.but he said the message was too important in the song to have a parody.i think its very important,i stil wish he gave him permission though
Al doesn't even need artists' permission for parodies. His parodies are protected by law and he can make them if he wants. He chooses to ask the artists anyway because he wants to have a good relationship with fellow musicians.
If he had recorded this, he wouldn't have made Smells Like Nirvana. A worthy sacrifice, IMO. Not thats there's anything wrong with Snack All Night, its just nothing special.
No he asked him not to record it. There was nothing to stop him peforming the song live.
Why do you think there are so many tribute act to various act out there? Because you don't have to ask premisiion to sing these song just to record them and sell them for profit. Otherwise everytime we sing in the car/shower/night club we'd have to pay the owners of the song.
Jacko was very big fan of Al and even let him use the same set from his song 'bad' for the video for Al song 'Fat'
Apparently not. Michael was a fan of Yankovic's work, and said he could record a parody of any song on Dangerous, just not Black and White, since it had the special message in it.
He didn't want him to parody "Black or White" specifically b/c he didn't want people to lose the message. He wasn't ultimately against Weird Al. In fact, he admired Weird Al. He just didn't want the public to lose the idea of "Black or White".
OK-Here's what happened: Al wrote "Snack All Night", a parody of Micheal Jackson's "Black or White". But MJ said the song had too much meaning to be parodied, so Al only plays it in concert.
ew years ago, two parents went out for dinner. A few hours later, the babysitter was calling to ask if she could cover up the clown statue in the kids' room, the father said,"Take the kids and get out of the house. We'll call the police, we don't have a clown statue." The "clown statue" is really a killer that escaped from jail. If you don't post this letter on to 10 videos tonight, the clown will be in your bed at 3:00 am with a chainsaw in his hand;sorry i didnt want that happening to me

No He Won't sue AlHe just didn't won't to cover this song because it might cloud the real message of black or white. He Even gave Al the chance to parody another song from the dangerous Album
Well it's not as sinister as that sounded. In reality, if he isn't selling the song, he can do whatever parody he wants live. It's his legal right. That's the same reason he could release "You're Pitiful" for free on his website.
At this point, Jackson is so poor he couldn't afford to sue anyone. Don't get me wrong, I love Michael Jackson. LOVE. He is the greatest pop star ever. But he is just in a bad place, financially and publically.
If you're an Al fan, chances are you more a fan of Al than you are of MJ. Therefore, you would only come to an Al concert if you liked him a lot.
The crowd that comes to Al's live shows aren't usually the same crowd that are huge followers of MJ that buy all of his CDs and stuff like that. When Al plays it live, he isn't ruining the message that goes out to MJ fans, he isn't even screwing with the sales.
i'm sorry, but i like mj more. tons more. i rly love al, but i just like mj better. and it's not an issue of the sales or the concerts, it's just doing something michael asked him directly not to do. the two men respect each other, and he should regard that.

I dont think its so much Al was undermining MJ, I think it was more of him wanting to do that song. Its not illegal, and Al is not making profit off of it. I heard that Michael Jackson asked him not to do a parody of "Black or white" because it had too much meaning to it! I could have just heard it wrong though...

I'm never satisfied with three meals a day
While the world is sleeping, I'll be munching away
Gonna sneak into the kitchen, now
Gonna tiptoe down and turn on the light
But, if
If there's no one round to see ya
It don't matter if you snack all night

Al never recorded Snack All Night.
He always asks permission before he records his songs. MJ told him when he asked BEFOREHAND that he didn't want him to RECORD the song.
This has been said countless times, but if MJ had a problem with him doing it in concert, he wouldn't have even done it in concert.
Al was very respectful to MJ and MJ spoke very well of Weird Al.

He asked Al not to RECORD it. There is a difference from a recording mass distributed on CD and a concert performance.
