This is soooo beautiful and it really touches the heart! Something very special about English Boys Choirs, lucky you. Thank you for adding much light to the Christmas spirit
Very nice, but hardly the best on YouTube. Some of the ecstatic praise in the comments is clearly folks (RC) rooting for the home team. Nothing wrong with that, by the way, but the Anglican choirs have a clear edge IMHO.
Woody, cherish that moment! - Mervyn Cousins did a fine job nurturing your son's talent, as well as our son Adam's. Would love to meet the man again, because he helped to make our son the confident, although sometimes arrogant, individual he is!
Adam Morrison-Wood (former chorister) will be leaving for Beijing later this month - he'll be there for a year. I know it's sad, but for those of you who ever knew him please say a prayer to protect him from harm. Yeah, you know how much Mum's worry!
The blonde boy singing the second part was by far the best.Think he would have won chorister of the year if he would have entered.Lots of praise goes to his original director of music Mervin Cousins for spotting an unbelievable talent and nurturing him into a fine young man......................... His Dad xx
One of my favourite hymns, beautifully sung. Who needs St. Paul's, when we have a wonderful choir here in Liverpool?
Yes, I'm biased! - Adam will be in China next year, as part of his degree course (doesn't sing anymore, but the vocal training has helped him speak Mandarin!).
Best wishes to all, past and present - enjoy your wonderful ability.
I was always able to sing this high when I was younger even in my high school years. I think the reason I lost the ability to do it is because I was the only boy in high school able to go that high. So my high school choir director put all the boys in bass and tenor which made me lose this ability after singing low keys after so long.
haha, I know those three gents. I have had the pleasure of singing with them in that very cathedral, although it's still odd seeing Boden's face plastered all over Songs of Praise.
I have just now seen your comment. If you are that blonde boy, then you had an amazingly rich tone. I enjoyed your solo very much. I wish you all the best and hope joy follows you on your journey.
Its my all time favourite hymn. There is also on You Tube a great version by Michael Crawford but this is just so moving. Thanks for posting. Its difficult to find good versions of this & this is just the best. There is also a beautiful version of it on the Home Alone film sountrack ( the first movie) Regards. Mick
If you mean James Orrell, yes I agree. I was at St Paul's in November when James took part in BBC Radio2 Young Chorister of the Year. He was amazing and should have been named as the winner.
its very odd that liverpool metropolitan cathedral is catholic and yet they have the choir wearing very anglican style cassocks and especially the ruffs
it is so sad that his voice has changed, even if its normal; for my part I was lucky: my voice changed only when I had 15 but it was a traumatism because I was soloist and the head chorister of boys altos
We didn't mean that James' voice has changed yet. We just meant it has become an even better treble voice than he has on this video :) I have an audio recording of Young Chorister of the Year if you would like it.
If the angels in heaven sound like these gorgeous boys, I WANT TO GO NOW!!!!

Thats what you get with Vatican 2. I am ashamed to be Catholic in vatican 2...attend Latin Masses...thats the real Catholic church

Many thanks for this. When does this date from?
cantorisdecani 3 years ago
I'm not certain. I received it in Jamuary so I would guess at Christmas 2007. James' voice has really matured now.
drwestbury 3 years ago
Yes there's a big difference between then and now. Time for the phonecall to Hyperion or similar ;-)

I'd lisses to his performance on the bbc/radio website, he was for me the best!
I was unlucky that I wasn't in London that weekend but on Holiday :-(

My family agree that James should've won Chorister of the year!
His hymn was amazing and he gave the most oustanding performance of his anthem in the rehearsals!
Why didn't he win!?!
surferchick0512 3 years ago
I think Harry won becasue he was the most technically correct singer. Personally I thought James put far more passion into his performance.
