  • Great job you do ,thanks for sharing it ,and your music .

  • I am totally impressed. I have already started my youngest stallion, but I plan on applying your techniques to my filly when she starts our training program. I think incorporating some of these techniques into our already proven program, could really be helpful. Thanks!

  • O.K., I have read allot of the comments, and so far I have watched 3 of the training sessions. I see absolutely NO cruelty or serious biting going on at all here. As a matter of fact, what I see is awesome, because for him to get that horse to lay down, and allow him to sit on him for as long as he did, and remain completely calm, means that that horse trusts him TOTALLY AND COMPLETELY!!! A horse will NOT lay down like that, let alone stay that way for as long as he did, UNLESS they trust you.

  • I have to compliment your training style. You take the time out to read the horse's body language and understand what it needs the most to move forward. I've only broke one horse from start to finish (my riding horse) and she is the perfect partner for me. It's just so great to see a different technique and learn something new. You keep your emotions calm, relaxed and to yourself. Good job...

  • Thanks For the help! i love your videos. they make me laugh, and i learn so much at a time. I really hope i can be like you some day.

  • Great Videos! What would you do with a 3 year old arab/pinto who bucks every time you try to make her do something undersaddle? she's very pushy and flighty, and i just don't know what to do. thanks!

  • Go back and start from step one because somewhere along the line she was taken to the next level before she was ready. In other words, re-build the foundation one step at a time. Don't progress until each stage has been cleared even if it seems it's taking longer than most horses. Horses have individual issues and what should seem fine for some isn't fine for others.

  • What an interesting and effective method. Wish the racing industry would get over starting these youngsters so young. 18 months is ridiculous. The racing industry keeps arguing about economics but with all the break downs I wonder. I read that in the past, during country racing, steeple chasing etc., the horses ran much farther i.e. 4 miles or so and weren't raced until they were around 5 or 6 .Might as well be you if the owners insist since this is gentle.

  • not to commend myself or anything but i always like to do that with my horses in endurance training. As long as their moving forward and behaving i let them go where they please at the speed of their choice. it seems to keep them very content. how did you gain that much trust in him in a week and 2 days? how much time did you spend with him? he responds so well.

  • I have a four year old quarter horse that I've had all his life. I haven't ever spoiled him in any way but hes way to trusting of me and he has a couple bad habbits. First he will never want to move off or away from me when I ask him.The next problem I have with him is I will be riding him a couple times per week and he will be good for a while then one day he just freaks and starts bucking.

So if you have any advice as to how I can get him more respectful and stop bucking I could use it.

  • what would you recommend if "flight mode" is your chestnut times 10 with a 9 year old 17.1 hand hanoverian?

hes a bolter upon trying to mount. he gets away super fast. once mounted, he'll run through fence or anything else then proceed to try and kill himself to get you off??

    any suggestions?

  • You need to break that mounting habit. Take him to a small enclosure, turn his head to the off-side and wait until he spreads his front legs, then mount with his head turned. How did this start? How long has he been riding?

  • It started by him just being an older super flighty horse. He was chased through a fence by dogs as a foal at the breeders. Don't know if thats related to the mounting issue though.

    He has never been ridden.

    thanks for the advice!

  • ok, you will need brakes so get him mouthed before you get on or it will be an accident waiting to happen. You need to stop those first few steps where he gets momentum up or you'll never stop him. Get him mouthed with a bit and turn his head when you get on.

  • Paul

I have watched all of your videos and have to say that you are a great horseman, I really appreciate you telling us what the horse is thinking during the videos, this is hard for many people to understand/explain what a horse is thinking during the training process. You are the best!!!

  • You sure know how to time your actions with horses, nice. And despite rapid schooling they don't start behaving like zombies or fully controlled puppets as few of the other trainers' horses when they want to impress people with quick results.

  • Crazy clever!!! Nominate you for Nobel Prize!

Gonna send to a few of my friends, if that doesn't get you more fans, I eat my dogs' leashes.

  • What's best about this is he still likes and trusts you when it is over and follows you happily out. That's a big difference from other methods. I've been bitten by a real biter and the video isn't so clear, but it doesn't seem like the horse is putting much effort into the biting. Mostly seems to be examining what's going on.

  • He was, he was just testing the water..

  • Hi there. This is extremely interesting.

I have only watched a few of your videos and I'm missing the definition of TAP. Do you mind briefly explaining the "TAP" method? Are you referring to laying the horse down?

    Thank you!

  • The TAP is a new way to lay them down that doesn't consist of ropes or leg restraints.

  • if you were already riding this horse why is he still ill mannered and trying to bite you.

  • I'll tell u the answer if you tell me what u think of Pat and Clinton..

  • I think they are like you Good horseman! but are more interested in their fame videos and selling tapes than what is actully good for a horse. I Dont believe in their domanate "or boss mare" theory. i dont believe in Lyons 3 seconds to smack them either! as i also am fixing thoroughbreds lately from, someone lying them down! they all cause problems down the road

  • I found your site because I was looking for inspiration for a colt that was causing me some trouble. Your tapes helped and made me laugh and think I didn't have it so bad! thanks! Everyone notices your tap method, but all of the other things you do is done with such finesse and perfect timing. Wish you weren't half way around the world.

  • Thank you..

  • Paul, It that just a halter with lead or are you using a bit? If so, what type? And how long did it take to get her to accept.

Next, why do people who have never started, trained or even owned a horse have so many comments? They are so missing the point. I look at this as a serious site for those who are presently training and starting all kinds of horses. Unless you're doing that or have done so you just are not going to get it.

Also, consider me first in line for your DVD. 'k?

  • Hi Anne, In this case the bit wasn't introduce over a week or so, just put straight on and ridden from day one. I did to show people starting doesn't have to be a textbook operation and you can change many aspects and still get the same job done.

  • Endo,

If you didn't have a small indoor to start the horse in where would you prefer to ride? Round pen? Open field? Your indoor is a nice size and the high walls prevent a lot of distractions, but I don't have one of those!

  • For safety reasons I would use the round pen until you get the brakes and steering sorted out. Then you finish then off out side going around trees or whatever..Keep their minds active and ticking over. Leaving them in the round pen too long will turn them into zombies..

  • That is interesting. Safety is exactly the reason I have been reluctant to start in a round pen. They are so small and most are the portable pipe construction. Guess I'll have to build me a nice indoor like yours!

  • It can go both ways, small is good to keep the speed down but it doesn't give you much room for error, but on the other hand too big can be a hassle for head strong horse that exploit the space..

  • hehe don't worry, i was just kidding about tying papers to some poor horse and scaring it to death :) but I wasn't kidding about having a lot of what the animal fears far away at first then closer as it gets used to it. kind of like how I got my border collie to stop going after my chickens in reverse lol!

  • Visions of terrified horses with blue tarps tied to their saddles crashing through fences. It wasn't pretty! Glad that wasn't a *serious* thought.

  • hahaha julz, hopefully she was only kidding!! but one never knows on here!!! hws your barn doing?(horses there)

  • All is well here, 'gorgeous'. :~)

  • Hello !! im from norway ,, i did ride in my horse at my self. hes wery com now :) but he does olways run aut whith me . What shuud i do? plese answer. :) im only 15 years old, sow im not sow experiend ass you are . pleas answer. :)

  • When he tries to run off with you, turn him in small circles before he gets speed up..

  • I see thanks for the answers. lol I guess if I had a horse scared of oh say blowing papers, I'd have 9 million papers all over his stall and paddocks and field.strings tied to him dragging sheets of papers hehe. lol he will get over the paper fear. Thanks again for your time, sure appreciate all you share with us. Sunlei

  • Sunlei5: Put the papers all over the paddock fences but DO NOT TIE ANYTHING SCARY TO YOUR HORSE! If your horse is dragging something scary the horse could seriously hurt himself trying to get away from it in a blind panic! Please don't TIE scary objects to horses. We love horses! Sorry, Endo, couldn't let that one go...

  • 2nd question, youtube has a text limit lol.

When the horse is still down do you think it could be helpfull to 'practice' as much of the mount/dismount feelings like weight on the mount up places?

I can see you really had not much problem teaching him the first jump on and off. but i wonder if practicing that when he's down will make the colt stay still even the very first time. Thanks for your time :)

  • Jumping on them on the ground wouldn't help much once they are up because the jumping action is different. Jumping, moving, objects etc..all have to be introduced to the horse and horses will pick up the slightest discrepancy so mounting on the ground and mounting standing up will be different to the horse..

  • Suni, I know half my question got zapped also. My guess is that the horse is a filly- hard to tell w/ shadows. Major hypersensitivity issues. W/ normal training it would takes weeks if ever to make her safe. Endos methods = amazing.

  • He's a colt but very touchy, I blame his color..lol Chestnuts always seem to be a little more fiery than the others..

  • don't they? ;)

where are you at? any websites or anything? do you take students???

  • I'm in Japan..click on the "Hybrid Horsemanship" in my contact box

  • I thought of 2 more questions and thanks in advance for offering your insight.

When a colt is in the relaxed 'tap' on his side or laying with head up, can he see things well? what I was wondering is if a object shy horse can be desensatized to his visual fears while 'under your spell?

  • They can see fine, their just resting. If you want to desensitize to something, introduce it slow and control the horse's head because they can quite easily get up.

  • Thanks, that's great about the DVD. I'm looking foward to it. Please post on youtube when the DVD is done and where I can purchase.

    Thanks! be safe.

  • yes I have a question, when will publish your first training vid.? I want to buy it and I'm sure 1000s of other people will too. Even a short 30 min vid for your first dvd, to establish your name, trademark your method and share more of your amazing unique horse training with the world.

    Sunlei

  • I'm working on a DVD at the moment which will be very easy to understand because it will be just me talking to you guys like on here, no big words or terminologies, just simple common sense anyone can understand. Hopefully I'll have it done this year, time just goes too quick at the moment..

  • If you guys have any question just ask ok..this is how it played out on the day not particularly what was planed ok..like that small circling around the 1 min mark was the horse doing that, I let him circle and was waiting for him to take the lead and venture out and explore the wider space but he got a little stuck so I showed him the light and he let him take the lead again..

  • You. Are. Awsome.

You, unlike many trainers nowadays, use common sense when training and I admire that.

  • Brilliant!!!!!!

Well done Paul, if you ever get your challenge accepted by the 'other' NH trainers - please let me know in good time, I want tickets and a chance to get my money on you.

  • Will do..but if I get accepted I'm sure you'll hear about it..lol

  • Can't wait for the next exciting installment!

  • Another eciting round or EndosHorseSpeak!! Well done!!

  • I'm soooo looking forward for the last parts :D. We never break horses as you showed in part one, it is done by longeing them a lot with diferent tack, we take them quite slow but they do get very confident whem we mount them lol. U can get the same result a lot faster and the horse is so easygoing about all this! People should think twice before dismissing this method just because it's diferent!

  • You have an awful lot of supporters already Paul. Is fairly obvious that the sensible people on here make the more considered and measured comments. Those that knock you are A) few and far between and B) usually pretty bullish in their responses and less well thought out. Bias? Me? Surely not!!!!

  • Loved this vid aswell! the horse seems like he awoke relaxed. No worries about a human on his back as if Endo and gear have been there all his life. lol, he was taking a few nips at Endos legs, curious unstressed colt says "hey! whats this thing here on my side." Thanks again for taking the time to post your vids. Sunlei, a horse lover from Houston,Tx

  • Great and very interesting to watch, as always. You'll get all the time you need, as long as it's not more than the promised 10 mins :D

    Now, really, fantastic job.

  • Great job as usual Endo! I just love watching you. I love the way you communicate with the horses and know how to read them so well. I am learning so much watching your videos!

  • Yeahhhhhhhhh, go Endos.. GO! GO! GO!

  • "She'll be riding him in a weeks time. She's not giggling now because she knows I mean it." You're TOUGH Endo! Breakin' in them horses AND them riders! Nothing like feet to the fire, Endo. You crack me UP! Looks like ur busy and need the help. Be NICE to the girl, don't scare her away. Good job on the colt so far. :~)

  • Excellent. I just started a colt last week. He's doing wonderful so far. Even though you start your's way different then I do, this is very educational. Thanks Endo!

  • Been watching for a while but never bothered to comment before now but I'm so impressed I had to bow down to your skill, talent & balls (metaphorically). You're a f'ing miracle worker! I'm waiting impatiently for the DVD

Have to ask - road to the horse 2008, they say there's a mystery competitor ... couldn't be ... could it :o ??? Don't suppose they'd allow you to make the stars look inadequate!

  • I can be there in 2 days if given the chance but like you said having this cheeky biatch from the city give the big guns a whoopin isn't gonna do them any favors so maybe you'll never see it.

  • hey Endo,

i like ur videos. I've found ur collection 2 days ago, excellent inspiration. I was wondering if there was part 4 of 5.. but ten i realised part 3 was just added. So work in progress... i assume. keepup the good work. Looking forward to see more. Dusan

  • i'm the first!!!! OMG, ummm i'm starstruck now!!! oh yah, nice video as usual, so will we see her first gate experience? or is he gone b4 that? its nice to see hw u pay attention to the grooming aspect also, they always look nice.
