did rear driver side and top bolt was tough but came out with a hammer same with bottom bolt but quite a bit tougher. passenger side top bolt head of the bolt snapped off drilled out but thin bit of the bolt is still inside and CAN'T get it out any help would be appreciated. bottom bolt would spin but will NOT come out end of bolt is mushroomed from pounding with hammer any help with this would be great also.
Hello, im replacing the struts on my '93 escort any everything went well but then my strut was too low for the bolts to go into where the wheel is. can i just jack up the strut and bolt it in? would that work?
@ Richpin06a . Hi , I was wondering My lower strut Bolt was frose in the bottom . I ended up drilling it out , Man what a bear that was . Do you have a easy way for me to do the other side . So I don't brake the lower or top bolt on the right side of the car . I just finshed the left side .
Spray both bolts down with penetrating oil a day or a least a few hours beforehand. If you can put the tires back on and drive around for a day it really helps.
Loosen both nuts before you attempt to remove bolt #1. Leave the nut on and only screw it on 3-4 threads and tap the nut with the socket still on it to protect both the nut and the bolt and their threads.
They should both come right out with a bit of tapping -especially if you slathered them down with oil and let set.
Ok thats what I thought so . I also have to change the stabilizer link on each end of the arm . For some reason there broken also . But I see that when you change the struts it may me easier too do .
Thanks for the great video. Works the same on my '98. Had my mechanic Dad do all the grunt work!

Thanks
I just changed the real struts on my '97 Escort.
This video helped a lot.
I used break cleaner and wire brush to clean those bolts on the bottom and penetrating spray as someone metioned here before.

One of my rear struts on my escort is broke, my car is leaning, how much should this cost to do 1 or 2 rear struts. DIY or if I have a shop do it.
crappy ass 99 escort.
Toadphillips 2 years ago
DIY would be around $130. for two. Shop add roughly around 140. to that.

Ok, thank you... what about used parts?
Toadphillips 2 years ago
You really don't want to buy used, just buy a new one.
studpuppy69 1 year ago
OK... I couldn't find quick struts as cheap as richpin's estimate
