Typically those who have a stigma against guardsmen have never brushed shoulders with one in theater. Do we have disgusting fat-bodies? Yup. Do we have some of the best and brightest. You bet.
my unit went in and improved relations with the locals far beyond that of regular army, they came in after us and had to pull out of 2 cops for causing those same relations to fall. OH and they lost alot more men than we did. its sad that they did its not something to boast about. BUT that is one instance im sure others have stories where regular army did better but in at least this one instance it would appear that the ng did fine job on at least that occasion both deserve respect as do all
When the guard deploys they're gone for a standard army tour which is the longest in the service. If they're infantry guess what, they do infantry shit. The airforce does 6 months at the most, and usually at some cush airbase. And stop bringing up air force spec ops, because they sure as hell don't make up the majority.
@colossus3200 Brother there are a ton! Less than 1 percent of the Army is Ranger qualified, so that in itself speaks volumes. That wasn't what I was trying to say, but I'm sick of people knocking the guard. Yeah there are plenty of shitheads, but I've also served with some damn good soldiers from there as well. That's how it is in every unit of every branch, these guys just get a bad rap because they're part time stateside. There's no part time in the box, and that's what counts in my book.
I've had way too many of these conversations with civilians. Go on daily combat missions in Iraq for a year train udner the regular Army, and they still think you're a weekend warrior.

childish, besides there is only one airforce unit even remotely compared to the badasses in the military. They are the special forces. You active duty airman need to quit crying because you have to be deployed away from your 16 yr old girl friends you are trying to impress.
