@antaressuper1966 Keeping an animal like that in an apartment isn't legal in any state. What is legal are people that are saving the animals from deforestation, starvation, and poaching. There is a certain amount of land that you have to own and you have to follow very strict regulations on fencing and even guests that come to your property. That is how it is feasible to keep a tiger as a pet, but it is the only way that is if it's done legally.

i have researched exotic animals and there domestication, some of you are calling this man an idiot but that isn't the case. For this man, or any man to desire the companionship of a tiger is not an insane thought. If you would want a feline of this calibur you would have to have proper licenses and a proper habitat. There are no places suitable for a tiger in new york city however you could in states or places in which you would own a lot of land. Feeding is a different story.

It said he got the tiger as a cub and lived with it for more or less two years until he got reported by people from his neighborhood after being hospitalized because of 'dog bites' but was really not what it seemed. @galass no offense taken and I agree with you, I have done some researching on this and apparently, keeping a wild cat as a so called pet is pretty common because of the fact that they are running out of a natural habitat to live in, but an APARTMENT!! I have looked into what it takes to care for an animal like that and there are strict regulations that have to be followed.. I agree that an animal like that can kill by accident and that's why ANYONE that wants to own one needs to get educated.

@PwnageFoU Of course, there is a difference between pets though, you keep a snake in a cage, you keep a dog in a kennel, you keep a tiger in a several thousand square feet enclosure and make sure that you have the money to meet it's needs. No matter what you have to do to care for the animal, it can still be considered a pet.
@kbing1100 Dogs were bred to be pets, and pet snakes are often non-lethal and of a moderate (not bone-crushing or hard-to-find) size, but tigers are just huge and live off of hunting and grazing huge tracts of lands. I guess a tiger COULD theoretically be a pet, but I just don't think it's the logical thing to do.

Poaching is reducing thier numbers to zero for a lot of species of big cats, not to mention deforestation and the extinction of their food sources. @rasteely My cat is actually a sweetheart now, but he was feral when I adopted him. It took a year or so to earn his trust, and it wasn't for another few years before he became completely tame. Now he's just a normal spoiled rotten lap cat. It's been a long time since the last time he scratched anybody. The last person he scratched was my little cousin, who kept chasing him around the house... I really didn't blame him for that one. XD

For house cats, yes, size is the only factor keeping us safe. However, domestication made them into pets able to live in close proximity to us. For tigers it's both their size AND wild nature that's a problem.

i have researched exotic animals and there domestication, some of you are calling this man an idiot but that isn't the case. For this man, or any man to desire the companionship of a tiger is not an insane thought. If you would want a feline of this calibur you would have to have proper licenses and a proper habitat. There are no places suitable for a tiger in new york city however you could in states or places in which you would own a lot of land. Feeding is a different story.

@alybirdie i researched this story and found it on CNN's website. It said he got the tiger as a cub and lived with it for more or less two years until he got reported by people from his neighborhood after being hospitalized because of 'dog bites' but was really not what it seemed. BTW, he also had an alligator in his apartment! The police officers fired tranq. guns to get the animals out and brought them to a shelter.

A tiger has a hunters instinct and could kill you (or anyone else) by accident given it's power claws and fangs. Any number of things could go wrong and you have nothing better than a prayer to stop him. Plus it must be awfuly sad for such an animal to live in an appartment and all that so that a man can feel good about having a pet tiger.

@galass no offense taken and I agree with you, I have done some researching on this and apparently, keeping a wild cat as a so called pet is pretty common because of the fact that they are running out of a natural habitat to live in, but an APARTMENT!! I have looked into what it takes to care for an animal like that and there are strict regulations that have to be followed.. I agree that an animal like that can kill by accident and that's why ANYONE that wants to own one needs to get educated.

@PwnageFoU Of course, there is a difference between pets though, you keep a snake in a cage, you keep a dog in a kennel, you keep a tiger in a several thousand square feet enclosure and make sure that you have the money to meet it's needs. No matter what you have to do to care for the animal, it can still be considered a pet.

@kbing1100 Dogs were bred to be pets, and pet snakes are often non-lethal and of a moderate (not bone-crushing or hard-to-find) size, but tigers are just huge and live off of hunting and grazing huge tracts of lands. I guess a tiger COULD theoretically be a pet, but I just don't think it's the logical thing to do.

Poaching is reducing thier numbers to zero for a lot of species of big cats, not to mention deforestation and the extinction of their food sources. Sadly enough, the one's that forced them to the brink are now the only thing that can save them. If I had the money, I would save a big cat from certain death.

@rasteely My cat is actually a sweetheart now, but he was feral when I adopted him. It took a year or so to earn his trust, and it wasn't for another few years before he became completely tame. Now he's just a normal spoiled rotten lap cat. It's been a long time since the last time he scratched anybody. The last person he scratched was my little cousin, who kept chasing him around the house... I really didn't blame him for that one. XD

For house cats, yes, size is the only factor keeping us safe. However, domestication made them into pets able to live in close proximity to us. For tigers it's both their size AND wild nature that's a problem.
