I shot this video. Flintridge Prep had a very good team that year. Los Altos (Hacienda Heights) came back from several goals down and this goalie goal broke a 6 to 6 tie (see the the scoreboard in HQ). The FP goalie was not out of position, he was a goalie with playoff experience, and slow motion reveals he made a credible, valiant attempt and the ball barely cleared his hand, and dropped into the goal. While goalie goals aren't that uncommon in regular season, they're rare in CIF playoff games.

this is a pretty regular occurrence in high school water polo actually.

i know i see about 5 goals per season out of each of our teams goalies.

its easy at the high school level because goalies are commonly out of position.

its become so commonplace that this is often considered a cheap move. and frowned upon if done by a team that is already in the lead.

nonetheless, RAMONA HIGH still pulls a few off.

i've done that. no joke. there were 10 seconds left my team was losing by alot and noone would get open so i just chucked that shit and it went in. we still got our asses kicked tho.
