, im sick of people always tryng to illegally smuggle our native wildlife so they can make money off them. Stealing babies from nests, killing the parents, smuggling them in socks, cramped boxes etc. Im sure they make great pets but just think about how they came to be in 'pets' in the first place, it's never pretty.
okay jimmy dude there not illegal everywhere okay and they are being bred over here 2 gliders make more duh
so basically the ones over here arent australian any more there ancestors are but there not im sure the very first sugar gliders have outlived there life expectancy
The thing is sugar gliders are a national icon here, what's next every american home is going to have a koala? It's got to stop somewhere, sure i realise it's too late now but i was just saying it shouldnt have happened in the first place
1st i agree with the smuggling thing, 2cd its gonna happen anyway(but now they are just breed here) 3rd chill out, you still have all the other marsupials, 4th dude i loved visiting austraila, sydney was my favrite. and last they r sooo cute
All sugar gliders in the US are bred in captivity. Since about 1975 Australia has had a ban on exporting their native animals, so any sugar glider alive outside Australia is actually several generations removed from the wild and thus closer to being domesticated or at least tame
The fact of the matter is a well cared for pet like this will be much happier and live much longer then those in the wild. Again, I said WELL CARED FOR!
A Sugar Glider is a wild animal and shouldn't be kept as a pet, nor should it be compared to a domestic dog, cat or rabbit. Those have been bred specifically to be pets in order for them to get the right temperment, etc. Many domestic pets die because stupid irresponsible owners dump them, thinking they'll be able to survive because their, very distant and very different ancestors were originally from the wild. They have totally lost all survival skills hundreds of years ago.
I must disagree, I own two sugar gliders right now, and they're the best pets I've ever had. Other than the fact that they can't be litter trained, I'm workin on that. Maybe domestication will help with that.
We're going to have to agree to disagree. I still feel that this is the exact reason why thousands of species are becoming endangered because people see these "cute, harmless looking animals" and think that they'll make good pets.
I agree with you in some aspects, not everyone can handle an exotic pet, or one like the Sugar Glider that requires alot of attention from it's owner. That is not to say however that there are not people who are fully qualified to own animals such as these.
For example, I have a friend who has had a black bear for the last six years, and he's gotten along well with it. It all depends on the person involved, and whether they want a pet for it's novelty value, or because they want a new companion.
Sugar gliders deserve to be in the wild where they belong, not in a cage. It just makes me so sad, i wish they where never illegally exported from Australia in the first place, then none of this would have happened.
uh...why is this video just a tiny clip repeating over and over?
