Hello! I have a question :D Before you start colouring, your character is already shaded a little- what did you use to shade your character in this way? It looks really effective because it's not a block colour like mine normally is!

@NaokoSohma The shading is actually due to screentones from the black-and-white manga scan! When you put colour over the top via multiply, the grey tones look like shading.

@keikomushi For hardware, you're going to need decent RAM and perhaps start with the smallest tablet you can afford. Software-wise, there are free graphics programs online - GIMP, is still free I think. Otherwise, there are trials of Photoshop etc. you can sign up for

@epower yeah, a few of my friends are doing the one in carlow and there's a few doing the the course in athlone, but they dont seem to be as art-based :/ i'm self-taught in photoshop too :) i was trying to find good 3d programs like lux render and all that jazz to mess around with and get familliar with. :) thanks so much for your help! i didnt know about qualifax, this is great! :)

@Yellowknight888 Pointy brush strokes = pressure-sensitive graphics tablet. The pressure sensitivity allows for tapered lines and 'flicks' of the wrist that cause hair-like strokes

@KerriThornton Hiya Kerry - I'm Irish and green to the bone. I'm self-taught when it comes to Photoshop. Game design would involve 3D modelling programs and 'proper' programming languages. I know Carlow IT have a really good game design degree and I would be surprised if there weren't more in the bigger Dublin Unis/ITs :) Qualifax is a really good website for checking out all the courses in Ireland, if you want to Google it!

hmmmm....the color you use is too dark you should use a bright color for skin and at 4:30 you shouldn't coloring that part from eye .... i think that's all... is a great video but......you speak too much

i thought i should mention as you were taking such caution with not getting color on the hair that it atchually dosen't matter if you do get color on the hair. as long as you color the hair on the layer above then the skin tone won't show.

@Draganus i have a wacom intuos 4 large, i cannot live without it, it helps me to relax....i love drawing with it and its infinitely times easier withit... ull see, buy one, u wont regret any bit of cent spent in one wacom (intuos 4 medium or large, depending on r screen size)!

your opacity or flow is probably set to something less then 100%

-> go to the top toolbar thing (below "Window") and make sure they are both at 100. The "Mode" should be

set to Normal too. Hope this helps ^_^

You are best off, if just a beginner, getting GIMP for now, which is fairly crappy, but good to learn with. I have personally tried a leaked, and cracked version, and I gained a virus, but now I have an older version of Elements on my main PC, which works fine, but on my smaller, personal room PC, I use openCanvas which is cheaper, and great for using different types of tools.
