  • Haha she's like "I paid for this while bow so ima use ALL of it" and then some!

  • Ive read that this piece is harder to play than the 'war horse' concertos--that no less than Perlman says this piece is a workout and difficult. Any violinist care to explain why this is from a technical point of view???

  • I have been copying you,and played this song for 6 month

  • Ahh! I get to play this for an audition and I'm super excited to have to play this buy also kinda intimidated....o.O

  • We are playing the original (non-abridged) in my highschool orchestra. Wonderful stuff.

  • Was it a little fast? Anyway the vibrato was really good! And it was beautiful.

  • I have 12 years old , and i play this song ...is very beautiful:X:X

  • Very beautifully done. She really puts her whole heart into the music. Someday I will play this piece like she does.

  • I played this and it made me feel powerfull , like shooting someone in the head

  • Bellatrix LeStrange plays Lalo?

  • @tonyroxhehe stfu thumbs up whore!! no one likes you comments

  • too much body movement but otherwise pretty good

  • Beautiful :)

  • EL VIENTO ESTA DESAFINADISIMO SOBRE TODO AL PRINCIPIO!!!!

    nadie lo nota??!!!??

  • Three years ago I was offered to play this piece, or Bruch concerto. Stupidly, I picked the other because after sight-reading, I found that Bruch's minor-esque feeling (with I believe only having like, two flats?), this piece with so many accidentals, with an orchestra that counters it perfectly, it.. it makes me regret not choosing Lalo's piece of stellar excellence.

  • I think Bruch's sounds more dramatic...I like it more than this one...it's darker and more passionate...Lalo's work, from a musical stand point, less deep

  • @dalecampbl8 Different strokes for different folks, I suppose? Not everyone is looking for "dark and passionate" when they listen to music.

  • yup...but when you have a cute milf eastern european violinist play it, it's ALL GOOD ;)

  • SHE'S A MACHINE! Beautiful!

  • La symphonie espagnole jouée par une dame russe accompagné par un orchestre roumain sur un site internet américain :)

Anyway she has an awesome playing she's stunning!

  • @Sylfira, she is romanian, not russian ;)

  • she not only plays exellent the violin but also is a very sexy lady!

  • she uses the bow like a sword and it works a treat .BRILLIANT .and the guy talking about intonation should get his ears tested .WHO ARE YOU ,SIMON COWELL ha

  • all rockstars have great hair....(beethoven)

  • you are my Goddess of violin.

  • @nattybug338

    not necessarily

  • I don't think she should be blamed for the lack of synchronizing. It's not necessarily the fault of the orchestra either. It just sounds like they haven't had enough rehearsals. I mean, she's wonderfully musical, and she shouldn't have to change that just to keep with the orchestra.

  • Great live performance. Loved it.

  • omg a dude from my camp is playing this (he's 14)

  • I love that crisp tone...

  • the background orchestra is not very impressive. they aren't together half of the time and the intonation isn't consistent. but her performance is beautiful :)

  • @careinn10 Nah, the audio isn't synced that well...

  • everything is so clear...even the melody. the deserved importance is being given to each sound in particular. I like it!

  • Impresionante version de Silvia Marcovici!!!!!! su sonido su expresividad son tan firmes esta obra debe tocarse con la elegancia española y asi lo hace parece que E Lalo estaria encantando ese violin .

  • Her tone is beautiful, but any advanced violinist knows that if you play with an orchestra, you have to have nothing less than PERFECT rythym, because you have to stay with orchestra, they cannot accomodate to you. Not hating on her rythym, but otherwise, a great performance.

  • umm, it's not her fault that the rhythm sounds inconsistent, it's the ORCHESTRA'S. They're just going on their own little agenda, staying exactly to the metronome - but it's the orchestra's job to follow the SOLOIST, not just the beat. When she does her rubato parts and goes slightly off the written rhythm, they don't adapt to her tempo - making the rhythm sound blatant and not musical.

  • @mocchiorox714

True...but the thing is, one cannot act alone..

meaning, the soloist and the orchestra must accommodate together

and play together. True, it is the orchestra's fault, but MAINLY the conductors because he's the one in charge of the beat. HE IS THE METRONOME.

  • @Williamkim990

    very true, very true

this metronome has got to learn how to be flexible =.=

  • It is nice to see a woman with small hands like mine playing these pieces...and moving. I've had so many teachers tell me to stay still or that something was impossible for me to learn because of my small hands. THANK YOU Silvia for proving the our critics wrong! great inspiration!!

  • This is one of the songs that I'm playing in my upcoming high school concert. It's really cool to listen to such a wonderful violinist and actually recognize the part. This song is just played so beautifully. I love watching how Silvia's movements are so similar to our violinist's.

  • Incredible playing!! Very clear and nice articulation. There wasn't any tripping over her fingers in the fast passages! Really enjoyed this!

  • Now it will be very interesting to see the IQ of those who interpret the meaning of the message which I have just sent.

  • LozzaViolin @lfry001 Isn't that kind of like saying " she makes a nice sound but she's a woman.

  • Rhythm is a framework not a mould. Art is all about individual expression. Get it!!!!!!!

  • Woah! that's really good! I think her intonation was a lot better than the other ones that I just watched. Great job!!!

  • this song is meant to be played like that

  • I can't believe there's people here saying that her rhythm is all over the place. Have you played these piece before? and if so, at that level???? Symphonie Espagnole is based on triplets rhythm that are intended to have certain spanish flavor or "swing". Read about the subject if you are going to comment.

    PUH-LEASE (please)

    Beautiful sound, gorgeous vibrato, EXCELLENT.

  • finally someone had the courage to speak up....

    great job

    i agree

  • @idranoel : i TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOUR COMMENTS 100%. I GUESS SOME PEOPLE HAVE TO TAKE MUSIC 101 BEFORE WATCHING THESE VIDEO CLIPS !

  • @idranoel I totally agree. Some people are not knowledgable enough to criticise this kind of music - especially if they don't know what a triplet is!

  • @Jasiek55555 but I do think she could take it easy on the hairspray : )

  • @idranoel

I'm sorry but her rhythm IS all over the place in some places - I've played the piece, and that's why I can say this. But in the places she does it and how she does it, it's not called INACCURACY, it's called RUBATO. Players are given the freedom to interpret the music differently and play what they feel is right, they don't always have to do exactly what the music says.

Oh, and just so you know, I'm agreeing with you here ;)

  • @idranoel idk, some of her retakes set her back rhythmically, not much but you can tell

  • Fantastic:) Played it some weeks ago...hard to lern, wonderfull to play

  • played this for master class couple weeks ago... :)

  • Is it just me that thinks the only thing consistent throughout the piece about her rhythm is that it's all over the place? Does this bother anyone else?

  • @lfry001 I agree, she makes a nice sound but she really is all over the place!!

  • Comment removed

  • i wish i could have play this movement instead of the 4th movement for exam....

  • I think this is the piece I saw Joshua Bell play with the National Symphony Orchestra (U.S.). He and this lady are both just... breathtaking. They make me want to cut my fingers off, they're so good. *swoon*

  • woah Silvia - easy on the hair spray!

  • beautiful!

  • I don´t understand why Silvia isn´t famous in Brazil... I´d like to know....

    She must come here!

  • Her whatche is a rolex. By the way, what reason she is using a watche?

  • A friend has come round and recommended this piece of music to me and I am finding it perfectly charming!

  • This is a fantastic piece! She is an excellent violinist.

  • actually she already a did a great job, because she played the song almost without any mistakes!yes, she need to express herself more on the first movement!

  • that would be so funny if she got her hair stuck in it

  • I lol'd hard.

  • she is amazing!

    especially her 5th movement.

but for this first movement, i feel she lacks that "fire".

don't get me wrong, she plays with tons of passions, but this movement just needs that extra punch.

some of her notes are too smooth and calm and lacks that punctual sound.

  • half way between the symphony and a violin concerto, Lalo composed this work for famous spanish violonist and composer Pablo Sarasate, who premiered it on february 7th , 1875 in Paris

  • I love how she does the whip lash thing with her bow at 1:06

  • One of my favorite violinists! A piece of fire!!!

  • very well, just a bit too nervous at the beginning

  • I think the piano parts are not piano enough.. but otherwise she is a very good violonist. She has a good technique and she plays with emotion.

  • Comment removed

  • wow she is magical

  • Comment removed

  • wow. omg, look at the violins in the orchestra, they all look so bored. they play so boring. the music is totally great, but they just play without emotion. but the soloist is great. she played with emotion, and with talent.

  • The orchestra is probably bored because they're jealous of her great musical talent. JK Well, this is her solo, so they should look bored and she should look excited.

  • I think they are bore because they might had to repeat too longer, so it's boring. But I think this piece is so perfect, and Silvia plays with emotion.

  • Great rendition of Lalo's Espagnole. Great playing. I noticed Silvia has a posting of Saint-Saens VC#3, which is really excellent as well. Beside her being an excellent violinist she is very beautiful; I can't say I seen a more lovely women violinist than her.

  • very good. she looks like bellatrix lestrange.

  • i know!

  • Good thing she's wearing a watch. She doesn't want to be late for her next appointment.

  • love her hair man!

  • Jeeze, you can't hate on the lady for her hair. Great performance.

  • @clberka

Whaaaat? Who hates her hair? I'll have to have a word with them.

  • she's amazing

    you, a loser

  • i agree with fraggleferret that she is no where near the best violinists but she is no amatuer. Don't get me wrong, she's definitely a professional but just not as skilled as someone like heifetz or perlman in my opinion.

  • Well, she may not have the time that they had, You don't make much being a pro-violinist. That and she may not care or devote herself enough. She is quite great, though yes, not as great as she could be.

  • such fun watching

  • Bravo Silvia! Que sensibilidad y talento en la interpretación i dirección del Maestro Mandeal, tambien titular de la Orquesta de Euskadi, para mi gusto, una de las más grandes violinistas de Europa después de George Enescu. Un cordial saludo desde Barcelona. :-) Francesc

  • incredible... a great talent, but this is the first time i see a performance of her.i often go to concerts in Bucharest, i usually stay close to the list of concerts available here. still wondering how i didn't see her in concert till now

  • Either the camera is really bad or the wind section is really out of tune. The Orchestra doesn't deserve to play with her.

  • That would the conductor's and not the orchestra's fault, wouldn't it?

  • both of their faults. the orchestra's (wind section primarily) fault for playing out of tune and not preparing well enough, and the conductor's fault for not pointing it out. however, if the conductor DID point it out but the orchestra still refused to fix it for whatever reason... then it's the orchestra's fault.

  • It could just be the nature of trumpet players - they want everyone to hear them *individually*

  • hahaha :D:D good joke:D

  • Haha, I've played in enough bands and orchestras. The trumpet players who started in bands and then moved to orchestras are terrible for that. They wail like it's jazz. -___-

  • She played quite well.

  • Niiice

  • She's really making it her own and thats what makes it good ! Her playing is wonderful.. I'm actually learning this piece and i don't know if watching this video gives me confidence or discourages me.. :P

  • wow I hope one day I can become that good!!!

  • It doesn't start !

  • ummm i think she's just scratching it..

  • Way to go! Great job focusing on the least relevant aspect of this video.

  • Someone's immature...

  • pretty darn good. she has improved tremendously and is elevating closer to the top level for younger generation violinists. Not in Kogan Heifetz or OIstrakh's league yet.

  • VolCaNo !

  • your are great!I love your performance.

  • very good version!!! really good violinist!

  • Grait!! I think you are the best player in the world I hve ever seen. Your play is my style. I'm so happy to hear this symphonie from you!!

  • this piece is on of my favs but with her it's even better!

  • I want to hear her play Zigunerweisen.

  • "Zigeuner"

  • Whoops. I know the piece well, and I was *sure* that I left out a letter, but what is commented cannot be taken back, unless it is blocked.

  • oh my gosh, what amazing musicality and intense playing...great powerful bow arm while sounding smooth at the same time!

  • Her musical temperament is one of TWO, or even 3 men together. Where have you been hiding dear Lady for so many years? She burns "life oil" with immense flames showing us what an artist should be like! Your sound is so rich and well tuned , doubled with great character. It is so unique, so fascinating and admirable.

    Bravo Silvia!

  • oh my word what a beast

    she's like a titan

really great presence of sound and character

  • At about 0:48 there was an odd type of octave... Anyways, I like her rendition. It is very clear and precise.

  • I love this piece so much!!!! She played this really well!!!!!

  • Si eu am vazut-O si acultat-O intr-una din serile de toamna la Filarmonica din Ploiesti.

Un temperament arzator si un mare talent.

    clipe de sublim !

  • I don't what can I say!!

    she is so perfect.

I love her so much :)

  • exelente

  • wow. i like her hair. fearsome looking

  • awesome♥

    i luvd it

    ☺☻♥♥♥♥

  • Nice Face

  • very good, she makes her Albani sound like a Strad. But somebody tell her to keep her elbow/arm low...!

  • If she can sound like that I don't care if she stood on her head. It obviously works for her anyways, she does it in all of the videos on here, it's part of her technique.

  • fiddlinmatt, When I said to keep the elbow low, I meant it for her own sake! We don't want her to injure the right arm on the longer run, won't we?

Secondly: Standin'upside down on her head isn't good for the neck either:)

  • Like I said, it obviously works for her. If it was hurting her she probably wouldn't be doing it that way (Unless she was just an idiot). But I don't like to think of people (especially not artists who know their craft) as total idiots when it comes to their bodies and their art.

  • it's ok...."strong" but not stylish

  • Nice! every note is played perfectly. i love how she used every inch of her bow. none of the bowing was wasted. she was so into the music that the movement was quite inspiring. it looked extremely professional. XD wanna play this song someday..

  • omgg! her playing is like singing to you..isnt it? like operatic singing..its lovely

  • She doesn't move so much that i'd describe her as being a frog... [:

actually, I thought she didn't move much at all

  • if you call this jumping around, then you obviously dont watch many violinists perform.

  • if there are violinists worse than this then all i gotta say is, wow and that i guess you can get into it haha i did it was fun.

  • She lives with the musik. May be she is on the violine not so excelent as Jaqueline Du Pre on the chello was (she jumped as well and looked goofy), but let she move. She isn't a statue in a cemetery, she is a living musican.

  • salam alikom, yatikom essaha

  • great sound

    great flexibility

    great attachment

  • I stayed in a master class that she did in Seville and this class was very interesting really, 'cause she is a great violin player and she has a strong character too. She is a really very good violin player. She teach in San Sebastian conservatoire normally here in Spain too

  • This is not simply an opinion stated because I am Romanian ,but a reality.I have seen a few comments regarding the fact that she is Romanian ,and this is why I needed to add these words.Thank you for posting this!It is a blessing to have access to videos like this one!

  • I didn't know she was Romanian. I thought she was Italian. hmmm...interesting.

  • Watching her makes me proud to be a Romanian! The piece is wonderful ,it is one of Lalo's most famous works. Her passion ,her personality ,makes this interpretation of the concerto great! It is so much fire...!I feel I need to add a few words here: Romanian people have given to the world great musicians ,poets ,writers ,intelligent, talented, and valuable people who ,for one reason or another ,are not known by the world. There are more like her,Romanians,as the music schools we have are powerful.

  • love it love it love it

  • it's very enjoying to play this symphony.. i'll do it in june

hte violonist play good, but she rushs a little bit, no?

the worse is the orchestra.. there is too many horns and clarinets... it's for violin and orchestra, not for harmonic orchestra.....

but, great performance! even if she's not so good as Anne-Sophie Mutter, who plays the best for me...

  • What a luscious video (and a wonderful, sensitive performance). Thanks.

  • Lalo Rules!!

  • hi, I need to see or hear the 3rd movement, could anyone help me?:)

  • IMPRESSIVE!!!

  • did you see her bow??????

It was leaning a lot under the excessive pressure

  • umm... they are rushing a lot(the orchestra)

  • The main problem with the Bucaresti philharmonic is that they don't notice little things, which makes them appear to sound amateur. They have some great players, and not the best as well, but they don't notice intonation within sections and through players ie the horn and clarinet in the Romanian rhapsody recordings that I have. They just need to polish some things and issues that hinder the overall quality of their performances.

  • She's performing this with music? I mean obviously she's not for most of the performance but at 5 minutes she turns a page? o_O But yes, beautiful performance. I always really enjoy seeing Silvia Marcovici play. The lalo is so exciting. Thanks for posting =)

  • the orchestra is amateur but not the soloist

  • lol are you sure? its the bucharest philharmonic. they're one of the better orchestras in the world

  • True, but the brass section sounds very amatuer at parts, I was somewhat suprised

  • Like all of her performances, Silvia leaves me amazed with this one too!

  • Beautiful piece and violinist!

  • but she is not looking at it(she don't need to look it)

  • nice grammar

  • haha

    learnin this piece in orchestra

got lost in like 10 dfrnt places

    our soloist is a snob

  • lol

  • lol

  • I'm learning this piece too! :)

The soloist is very good, only I feel bad because the orchestra's accompaniment is really bad. It's so out of tune and can't fallow her tempo. The conductor... I don't really know what he's conducting. Hahaha

  • I"m glad I'm not the only one who noticed that the orchestra's performance was poor

  • This lady can play Spanish style!

  • He's right. Her rhythm is actually exceptional .

  • YOu play super good, but you need a better orchestra next time. You just play beautiful, just beautiful, wait the hair...

Dye it blonde and let's see what it is like in the you next video.
