Like some bad acting here and there, some far-fached plot points, and even speical effects. If you ignore that though, its really good film. I love a few of John Carpenter films... and this is one of my favorites.. I love the Original Halloween.... did you know that the Mask- that Michael Myers wears.... was in all actuality a mask of "William Shatner" that they tore up and abused to give it the look it has...I love his version of " the fog" also "the thing" w/Kurt Russell. I watch "Prince of Darkness" every Halloween- one of my traditional favorites along with " night of the living dead" - they both freak me out... but in a good way

Carpenter has definitely lost his touch in recent years....with the exception of "In The Mouth of Madness", everything he made after "Prince of Darkness" has had a serious decline in style and storytelling. It's sad.

But at least he produced several classics that have great re-watchability. Halloween, The Fog, The Thing, Escape From New York, Big Trouble In Little China, Christine, Starman, Prince of Darkness...all classics in my mind.

@Christmasgoat Yeah, the use of on-screen physical effects work in "Vampires" really helped. The story and acting were decent, but it just didn't FEEL quite like a Carpenter film. Anyway, I really wish that he could put out at least 1-2 more really good, "classic Carpenter" films. It's sad to see him lose his touch so much. One of the great independent filmmakers ever.
