By the way, one of his grandsons has been going deaf, so the man has been learning ASL. Also I don't know why you keep pressing standardized testing on this conversation as if it has any relevance. They ask you to read a story about a Chinese immigrant and her cat, then answer five questions about what you've read, and you start all over again with another story. You then get tested on writing, and again, what you know in public school is the same system that produces 1/3 high school dropout rate and 47th world rank in literacy. They don't ask you about foreign policy on the SAT.

If you look at the details of the gesture, the thumb is extended...that "gesture" was apparently American Sign Language for "I Love You".

The "El Diablo" hand sign often is con-fused with the deaf hand signal of the phrase, "I love you."
However, when Bush and his ilk do this signal with the thumb closing over the two middle fingers, they are more likely giving a mason sign (which is not necessarily satanic).
Also, that hand sign has been used so much in ignorance, it has become slang for "We are like-minded."
