Why the hell aren't you playing at the Christmas Spectacular at Radio City Music Hall in New York. You would be great. What a trill to hear you play such a wonderful and orginal arrangement. I have never heard such wonderful christmas organ music in my life. You're the best!
Well you may as well have called it an arrangement of Carol of the Bells or Palladio as well as God rest You Merry. But I loved this. I'm not sure if this is actually supposed to be a demonstration piece of the organ's tonal capabilities but it was delightful to watch the registration and ingenious manual changes. You would have to be really miserable for this not to have raised a smile
Little do we all know, that when the Organ was first invented many many many yeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaarrrrrsssssss ago, THIS is what they had in mind. Well, MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!!!! Some "HUNDREDS" of years later.
Absolutely spectacular Barry! Be looking for the order to come soon for our new Allen at St. Elmo United Methodist Church in Chattanooga, TN. You may remember we lost our Moller Pipe/Digital MDS-80 in the fire at our church in August 2009. I am meeting with Jim Ingram this coming Tuesday to go over the details for our instrument. I cannot believe the VISTA... it is wonderful and you are wonderful!!
I saw Barry play this arrangement and others at a cathedral in the northern suburbs of Sydney a few weeks ago. He was using an Allen L-321e with Vista and it was absolutely remarkable. To see his hands play is one thing, to sit in the audience and see his legs dance all over the pedal board is inspiring.
Wow! Brilliant arrangement, supurb organist, wonderful digital instrument. This is definately one for my all time greatest collection! Please do concider publishing this arrangement! Best regards from South Africa!
Sorry, it's not a written arrangement. By the way, I see that you're located in Australia. I'm planning on being there in July and will be giving a MIDI workshop in Sydney and, maybe, one in Brisbane as well. Let me know if you're interested.
Now, Here's a REAL Unit Orchestra! While NOTHING will ever replace the beauty and uniqueness of a Theatre Organ, I'd bet Hope-Jones would have loved this as would have JS Bach, Handle among others. Wonder how Virgil Fox would have taken to this type of power and flexibility...One can only wonder
Good question! And the answer is "yes" and "no". I didn't register individual stops along with the MIDI sounds. But, as I "orchestrated" this arrangement, I thought of the organ as one of the instruments and I wanted to be able to add it or subtract it independently. So, I created the orchestration by setting MIDI sounds to pistons and then in several sections I added the organ through the use of the crescendo pedal. Organ purists may blanche at that, but it works in this context.
Barry, you did an amazing job weaving all those themes together. I've listened to it 3 times already and will share it with all my fellow musicians at the Allentown Music Club and the Young Musicians Club, who really enjoy our visits to the Allen Organ headquarters. Thanks for sharing. Hopefully you will do some more in the near future...
Not only is the playing and the arrangement clever & fresh, but the voicing is also. It really shows off the many facets of this Allen while blurring the line completely between Theatre and Classic voiced instruments. Maybe it should have been posted as "Hark how the bells give ye merry gentlemen little rest". Brilliantly done.
Wow this man is awesome!
